I thought it might be useful to start a thread about tactics & gameplay observations for the DYP (Double Your Pleasure) Mod.

A few Modern Era military tactics/observations
I'm just finishing off my first Mac DYP Mod game as Siam, and - rather late in the game - realised with some amazement that my AEGIS cruisers actually had a bombardment range of '6' (unlike '2' in regular Civ3). This is to simulate ship-launched cruise missiles (guess who hadn't been consulting the Civilopedia!).
I also realised that I can move my Cruise Missiles overseas by loading them onto Air Transports, since they can't be loaded onto sea Transports or anything else. Although Air Transports haven't got unlimited range, they're useful for hopping units from continent to continent. Cruise Missiles have lethal bombardment, and become very powerful when softening-up (or wiping out) enemy units garrisoned in cities.
However, one glitch seems to be that Gunships are landlocked: they can't be rebased, or transported by air or sea transports. This is very annoying in my current game, as I am in the middle of invading England (who are overseas on the other side of the map) and my 43 Gunships are all stuck back at base in Bangkok, kicking their heels. Still, these are great modern era units, being able to attack multiple times (3) per turn. It's a good tactic to use a Gunships bombard capability to 'soften-up' some targets first (e.g. those in forests, or fortified on mountains), then you can move them in for the kill, and then head for home.
It's also useful to be able to base your Stealth Bombers safely at home - far away from the frontline and risk of capture - since they can move, bomb and mover again. You can temporarily rebase them overseas (in a city you control), go on a bombing mission out there, and then rebase them all the way back home again... lovely jubbly!
