Doughnut Files Term 7 - 9

Shouldn't it be Stunning, instead of Stunting (it makes it seem like we are hurt through our actions!) ?

Redrafted ... just trying to add a little subtle humour in the form of a tongue twister

To Nuts

With all due respect to your sudden feelings of self righteous indignation, I would like to point out that from the very beginnings of our so called treaty, you have constantly acted as if none existed nor offered any explanation as to your own actions even when we sent numerous 'please explains'.

Your previous message which corresponded to the routing of KISS from our lands also made your intentions as clear as glass.

We are just ensuring that there is NO WAY for you to peak into our cities, monitor our population and economy ... and MOST importantly steal our technology. :mischief:

We will maintain as relayed, that we will NOT initiate hostilities for the duration stated in that piece of paper we both signed.

While you may interpret our actions as cunning stunts, we maintain that we have AND continue to play with honour :salute:

Therefore we reject your offer for peace !!! :p

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Department

* Try saying "Cunning Stunt" repeatedly aloud as fast as you can ;)

Well, to be blunt, we haven't exactly played with honour, IMO. We have not broken the letter of any written treaties, which to me is not really the same thing.

Disagree Classical Hero

I can send the letter off in 17-ish hours

It would be better with the save ... if anyone does it before please post a note here

There's a reference in the letter I don't understand:
Your previous message which corresponded to the routing of KISS from our lands also made your intentions as clear as glass.

Maybe we should quote the thing you're referring to. I always like throwing their own words back in their faces, when possible.

I agree with Petter - better to throw their own words back at them when possible.

Also - I'd really like to post page 1 of our treaty with the nuts in the UN forum. Just say, "read our treaty for yourselves! We have not attacked a singe Nut unit, nor have we ended a turn in Nut territory. If they Dnuts believe we have done either of those things - let them speak. If not, let them remain silent!"

:agree:

There's nothing stopping us from posting the image in the UN. There's no harm in it, that I can see, and it might even help to sow some discord on BattleIsle.

I don't - there is no discord to be sown. Everyone thinks we are manipulators and cheaters and reading the actual language is not about to change anyone's mind.

I think we are really seeing a different tone from the other teams. This is becoming more acrimonious and bitter than fun. I suggest keeping the chit-chat to our own team forum and ending the game as quickly as possible.

D'Nuts are pissed because you guys had and are playing a better game than them. Also, I think they feel they were robbed of a chance of winning this game when we attacked them in the early years, since they had to spend years building units, as opposed to buildings and settlers, and they had to use their GA in Despotism. Now, they see that MIA is on its way to victory and think their only out is to ICS to get a 100k culture win (i think). Then we come along again and declare war, although not breaking the treaty or sending over units, letting them know we're coming for them...and it's gonna be sooner rather than later. They see the end is near and are venting their anger.

I'm hoping Chamnix is wrong about this one, but he's usually pretty astute with these things.

Did we actually ever mention to DNUTs that we suspect them of having stolen Steam? We might want to send off the letter that Fe drafted with the save.

I certainly could be overreacting - it just seemed to me that the recent posts in the UN have lacked the good-natured teasing tone that was there previously. Of course our opponents are frustrated because the game looks good for MIA, and they may feel we got here "unfairly" (although heck, we could tear the treaty to shreds and attack the Nuts, and it would still be "fair").

Hopefully, nobody will be a sore loser, but we also have to make sure we are not sore winners. I think we should keep the trash talk to a minimum unless we are certain it will be taken in fun as it is intended.

Sent to Nuts g-mail and PM to Robi_D

Titled ... Peace Rejected
To the Government of Nuts

Dear MIA,

We are well aware of your feelings towards us, i believe Fe is familiar with these words.
Oh and PS.
We are unhappy, and frustrated, by your recent dealings with the "Dark Side" across the water

Do not expect any deals to be renewed when they expire. I will remind you we have a peace treaty up to and including turn 177.

On a personal note
I hope that these 'diplomatic' messages are not taken too seriously and out of context ... I hope that they are read as part of the game experience and that no personal affronted is taken :wavey:

PM or AIM me if you think any offence has been taken

Sincerely and cheers to a good game ... fe3333au

I've noticed too that the 'tone' seems to have changed ... hence my comment on the UN about lack of responbce to our last edition of the MIA newspaper.

Response swift ... more on the personal note I attached ... but I post here.

Personally no offense has been taken, it just a game.:) Working at nights has amde it difficult to catch up with you on AIM. I can access the forums but chat programs have been banned. Besides whatever i do write is in the context of the game and a bit of fun.

As for peaking into your cities, you could have done the same. Had we as you argue stolen your technology or attempted to, then you would have a reason for war. Finally i'm not fussed how you guys have played the game collectively, there is nothing wrong with beening ruthless and looking for any loop hole in an agreement to exploit, thats fine by me, but then please doen't turn around and preach how you guys have acted honourable throughtout the game, that is annoying.

Sent a reply about looking forward to catching up on AIM.

I haven't looked at the public forums but I think RobiD's last line is key to the other's feelings about Greek Honor. Being on the losing side contributes as well. I can tell you all that I was very unhappy when the Galls invaded TNT and you all hid behind your honor. I was kind of ticked off when you all swore up and down that you were our best friends yet you stood by and watched us go down. Sure you gave us what you could to prop us up but that was to further your own country's position. The more damage we did to the Galls the better for you. We all saw that. Of course I can forgive you all now because you did such a good job of kicking the Gall's butts. :hatsoff:

I agree with what Chamnix said about getting the game over fast.

So let's invade Battle Island and be done with it. BTW, vote donsig for Presidient!

What exactly are you disagreeing with me on?

Actually I'm not sure  ... I had so many windows open :hmm: I think it may have been something about Foreign Department not necessary anymore ... sorry getting confused in my old age :( :p

Robi's note makes me feel better - at least one person has his head in the right place, and I hope everyone else is thinking the same way.

I do agree with what he said - I have mentioned a few times that although we have not broken a written deal, I think "honorably" is not really an accurate way to describe our play, and I can see why our "preaching" would grate.

I'm glad they responded promptly. This gives us an idea of what to avoid in the future.

If I recall, all the honor stuff was originally touted in response to our initial agreements with Whomp. He was trying to get us to trust the 10-turns warning stuff, and mentioned that they wouldn't risk a hit against their word for fear it would impact other games they play on this site.

Interesting how it's sort of come full circle on us...

I will also post the personal reply and response I sent Robi_D.

No worries :)

I was just concerned when I noticed no responce to our newspaper and then after I sent the last diplomatic message ... that there was a 'tone' being expressed by other gamers.

Didn't want for us to be put into a Provo subset ... the preaching about homour is 'roleplaying' I just hope it doesn't piss people off in RL ... you never know, but I'd hope that we involved in the game, are adult enough not to take offense ... basically without the correspondence being sent, the Foreign Ministry may as well disband at this stage of the game LOL

Cheers Robi, hope to chat whenever ...

Werner

I've been flat out basically, with my civ time divided between, c3c mtdg, civ4 mtdg, mtdg pitboss, civ 4 isdg, and 3 pbem within the aloha team it can get hectic. To top it off nearly every in the past week or so has had major development. By the way kudos to chamix and the rest of you, made our efforts against tnt look well ameterish. I do like the sunday edition, the comics are really well done. By the way i hear your making a move to internal affairs, wouldn't having anything to do with the fact the wine supply now handled by the IA office would it;)

Seems that the uber roleplaying on my diplomacy has nigged at those receiving it ... I was expecting equal and over the top responces ... I do feel that I managed to take the much under rated role of Foreign Diplomacy to another level (which I'm happy about)

Anyway I'm confident that Peter's diplomacy will be better suited to the current environment :D

Side Note ... I can't help but take from this that much is due not to a clash of different gameplay styles BUT that from some parties, a sore loser reaction. It will be very interesting going through the forums once the game is completed.

Whoever is currently running the Foreign Offices... we need to send a note to the Donuts giving them their 10 turn written warning of termination of our non-aggression treaty.
