Down at Fractal Rock - My First PBEM

I don't think this has been adressed. But, considering the increasing player numbers, will permanent alliances be avaible as an ingame option? I think it could be interesting to leave it on, though I wouldn't press on that. What do you people say?

Please no permanent alliances... Again it allows a sprint to communism for shared tech... You can always have an informal alliance through chat, but the tech sharing is just so powerful!

Agreed. I don't think permanent alliances would be a good choice for this game.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had seen that mentioned in other PBEMs and was wondering about it. I'll go out there and create a game.

Thanks, AdrienIer and Calanthian! I randomly chose grogburg for the first player, and then ordered everyone else by time zone/usual playing time (full list in first post).

The game didn't create an opening save so I had to save it myself for grogburg and send it to him. I think it will work without trouble though.

REM I laughed when I saw which civ you got, it'll remind you of a little discussion we had some months back

I'm having some trouble.

I downloaded the file just fine and put it in the PBEM folder in Civ IV BTS.
I launched the game, selected multiplayer, selected PBEM, and saw the save file.
When I open the save file, an error message flashes by incredibly quickly and the game closes.

I have tried to screenshot/read the error message but it goes by too fast for my poor reflexes. I can make out "protected" and "cannot be changed." I'll try to screenshot it a few more times but I figured I'd update you now.

Don't put it anywhere in particular and just double click on the file, if it doesn't work it means I screwed up somewhere

Oh dear... Probably a civ I hate then. Gosburg, it means you're using a different version of civ to adrienlier. I guess you have steam? You need to use the beta version that has direct ip as a MP option
