Dr Phil

What do you guys think of Dr. Phil. I really don't know enough about him or his beliefs to give him a fair ascesment, but I can give you my predjudices. Basically I think that he is a money hungry, well... you can see where I am going with that. I think that he is taking atdvantage of the average person with easy answers to difficult problems. Furthermore he is taking a seminare to my home town and that is generally a bad sign.

Well, I think you're definatly right when you're saying that he's giving easy answers to difficult problems.. Offcourse though, it couldn't have been much different taking into consideration he only has about half an hour or so for his show..
His 'easy answers' probably don't really have an influance on the person on the show.. Normaly when one goes to see a psychiatrist, he or she isn't 'cured' in half an hour..
So to this extent his show is utterly worthless (IMO)..

On the other hand, his show does discuss everyday problems (it's not like he's dealing with people suffering from some form of post traumatic stress syndrome or something).. Many people might be watching his show and actually learn from it, like how to deal with their own kids when they're growing up: "Hey honey, did you know beating the crap out of our kids in order to make em stop crying really isn't the way of doing things?"

I think that for the time given in his show and the subjects dealt with, he does quite a good job.. Only you shouldn't expect the people in question on the show to be 'cured' at the end.. And in fact, I don't think that's what the show is about..

But then, it is nothing more than another Operah/Ricky Lake/Jerry Springer useless talkshow with only one goal: making more money!!

It doesn't have the freakshow appeal of Ricky Lake, so I guess it can't be all bad.

(Disclaimer: I've seen like one session of Ricky Lake, overheard a few more when my sister saw them, and even less of Dr Phil. So, to be honest, I don't really know what I'm talking about.)

I dislike Dr. Phil. I find him to be a boring person given simple solutions to problems. I just don't like him.

For some strange reason, whenever I see DR. Phil on TV, an image of him on the toilet taking a big dump pops into my mind. And now, forever after, the same will happen to all of you. I just wanted to share.

He has a doctorate in pyschiatry (IIRC) and has a daytime talk show. I envy the man; he makes millions of dollars for telling people what anyone else (besides themselves) would tell them. Your average Dr. Phil episode:

Phil: "If I understand you correctly, you always nag at your husband for doing the littlest things? You even once yelled at him for leaving the light on in one room?"
Guest: "Yes, that's right."
Phil: "Maybe you should stop."
Guest: "Oh, my God, you're so smart! Thank you Dr. Phil!"

Okay, it's a bit better than that, but I still say his show is a bunch of crap in terms of actual psychiatric help. It does have some entertainment value, though. (BTW, I'm familiar with his show because after coming home from school I watch TV and have a snack for about an hour to wind down, and his show is one of the ones that is on at the time. I've only seen about 10 or so half-episodes.)

Yeah, I hate the fact that he talks about the importance of losing weight so much yet weights about 250 pounds himself.

I don't respect him at all. I heard in many places that he has no psychiatry degree. He also is very blunt for a shrink.
