[DRN-001] BtS Any Which Way You Can

A silky peninsula ! (Download link works fine for me too.) What's the hotkey to capture a screen shot ?

Print Screen or Shift+Print Screen in order to name it.

I had to go look it up, too.

Yena, if you want, I can upload a copy of the save to rapidshare or something. The download link is for a direct download off of civfanatics proper.

Thanx. It worked in a current game, and then, I easily found the JPEG file...

...and, using my dad's Photobucket account, I have succeeded to post the game-shot image here. (But it has been removed so that the thread does not become cluttered.)

It may be a continent. We'll have to see what's beyond that one tile stretch of land in the east. I'm also curious about what's on the land off our western coast -- other than desert and lions.

Turn 0: Press ENTER.

Turn 1: Set research towards Mining and BW.

Turn 3: Worker completes, start work boat. We meet Charlemagne. I hate him. He's protective and sprawls all over the map with his rat houses. Suggest we get rid of him rather quickly.

Turn 6: Buddhism FIADL.

Turn 14: We meet Cathy.

The HRE are greatly encroaching on our territory and will no doubt block that isthmus. An early rush might be necessary, so let's hope we have copper in the vicinity.

Got it. Will play tonight.

Priorities: Finish Workboat. Start either 2nd workboat or warrior. Finish BW, start on Mysticism and The Wheel for 2nd copper city, if there is a good city site for it.

I'll be recalling the warrior explorer to finish near exploration, it looks like the next HRE border pop blocks us from the rest of the continent until Writing and Open Borders.

If you post your save before going to sleep, I will execute my turn before the end of this "Thor's Day". FYI : My local (Montreal) time is the same as New York, Boston, Washington, Miami.

I keep this webpage open at all times, minimized on my desktop, and I refresh it regularly to see if anything new has been posted. (I play C4 in a window on a 19-inch widescreen, so it's easy to alternate between running programs.)

So we're thinking axe rush against the HRE? Aachen definitely does look tasty. What else do we know about Cathy?

And should we pop a third workboat for exploration?

Turn 30: Checked the save. We have horses 1S of Washingtons borders, those will be claimed next border pop.

Turn 31: Sent the worker to a forested plains hill. There's not much he can do till BW comes in. Heal warrior explorer.

Turn 32: Workboat finishes and improves crabs. Start a warrior.

Turn 34: Zara Yaqob of Ethiopia met:
Spoiler :
ethiopa0000.jpg

Turn 37: Hinduism FIADL. Random event: Fire has raged through the Ethiopian city of Aksum. Catherine has the spy icon next to her name, I think this means we're out spying her.

Turn 45: Bronze Working in. I didn't switch to Slavery. The only copper revealed so far is 1 west of HRE borders. I set research to The Wheel but feel free to change it.
It looks like there's a HRE worker you can steal, though I don't do that normally.

Edit: I forgot to wake up the worker, he can chop that hill now.

Edit2: You can revolt to Slavery now as well

Got it & loaded it with success at 07:20 PM...about 15 minutes after it was posted.

I completed my 15 turns (46 to 60) at 08:00 PM.

Here is my ANALYSIS (no need for a screen shot) :

T45 (as left by njorls) >

45.1 : I awoke the workers and set them to chop, as suggested in my predecessor's first edit.
45.2 : Surprise! Research is NOT "The Wheel" as stated (see previous post), but "Mysticism" !?! I reset it to The Wheel, as recommended by njorls.

T47 (my 2nd turn) >

47.1 : Work Boat finished. Sent it to the resource.
47.2 : City has reached a new pop level (5).
47.3 : Seems a good time, then, to produce a Settler.

T48 > Work Boat consumed to develop the CLAM resource.

T50 > Workers start to build a mine on cleared-up hill. Barbarian wolves lurk to the south of the city : no immediate threat.

T53 > Bad news ! Barbarian bears surge forth from the shadows and kill our warrior-explorer unit ! Nothing I could do to prevent it.

T56 >

56.1 : Wheel discovered ! I select "Archery" as the next tech to research because we might need to beef-up against Charlemagne (to the east) and those wild bears & wolves (especially since a 2nd city might soon be founded).

56.2 : The Settler unit is finished, but I do not want to risk sending it due to the presence of bears (east) & wolves (south). Consequently, I start the production of a 2nd warrior unit (as the first element of a settler-escort task-force).

56.3 : Workers have finished the mine on the hill, and since we now have wheels, I set them to build a road there (to start a communication path with our eventual 2nd city, to the east).

T58 > It took only 2 turns to produce the 2nd unit of warriors, but being the cautious type, I still do not want to risk the Settlers with only one escort towards the east. I will leave this daring adventure to my successor ! Consequently, I launch the production of a 3rd warrior, to beef-up the settler escort (but this time, those warriors will take 3 turns to arrive : on T61, my successor's first turn).

T59 > Workers have finished the first segment of the road, and I send them to the east to start segment 2 (on the pig resource).

T60 (my last turn, on 2500 BC) > Nothing to do. I leave with this situation :

60.1 : Warrior-unit #1 is still fortified to defend our capital.
60.2 : Warrior-unit #2 is in the city, and has skipped its turn (waiting for W-u #3)
60.3 : Warrior-unit #3 will arrive next turn.
60.4 : Settler-unit has skipped its turn (waiting for its 2nd escort unit).
60.5 : Workers are building 2nd road-segment towards the east.
60.6 : "Archery" tech will be completed in only 3 more turns.
60.7 : Good news. We have had 61 gold for many turns, and my crafty management has boosted our treasury to 100 gold (without any cheating or goodie hut).

You only have to press end-turn. On T61, another Warrior-unit will arrive and you will be able to send forth a 3-unit task-force towards the east (if you so choose). Watch out : the big bad bears might still be lurking in that region.

08 : 37 PM > I post the analysis first. I now have to upload the file and edit this post to insert the link (in a few minutes).

HERE IT IS (08:43 PM) >

4 players of our team have done their stuff in 24 hours : not a bad pace !

I can see three solutions to the problem. Either we try to plop a city next to Aachen to claim the copper, which will cost us a pretty penny and annoy Charlemagne. Or, we research Iron Working and pray there is iron somewhere. Or, we research Horseback Riding and attack Charlemagne with horse archers. The latter unit has been improved in BtS. The problem is it takes considerably longer to get the HA army together.

Fourth solution is chariot rush.

Got it.

Had a look. Initial impression is that this is not the best start ever. Maybe build second city se of corn/sw of oasis; has potential as a middleweight production city in longer term and leaves space for third city on east coast grabbing spices, pig and fish.

Maybe hook up horses (available with next border pop in 15 turns) and chop/whip 6-8 chariots with aim of rushing Charlemagne c 1000bc. Teching towards IW might be useful coz life will be much easier if we can deprive Charlie of metals.

I'll await feedback on city location and chariot rush proposal.

Chariot Rush sounds good. Getting rid of the HRE sooner rather than later is also good. We need to control Aachen so we can get out of this peninsula.

I agree that we could do with another city SE of the corn. Our third city will have to be Aachen. There is simply not enough room to expand and the earlier we get rid of HRE, the better. Washington's borders will expand in 15 turns, and I think we need another worker until then so that we can chop a chariot army asap.

I'm not the bellicose type, not at all, but I am also inclined, here, to rush Charlemagne -- one way or another. He is bottling us in our initial peninsula, and he has a nice city (it is called "Aix-la-Chapelle" in French). Also, as a bonus, we could then easily exploit that copper. I trust that you guys are experienced warriors ! :trouble:

Maybe build second city se of corn/sw of oasis

The big bad bears were in that region on turn 53.
