Druid's hideout

Or I have another idea. why not let the city square itself be the choke point. Granted it will waste some squares in the flat cross but mega resources elsewhere might compensate. I actually am liking this idea better than 2 point choke . I'll post both the saves and we can decide which we better try.

From what theRat was saying, it seems that the AI needs a route to the city before it will begin the attack code. Making the city square the choke point would work in that case. The only down side is that you would give up 8 city tiles to do it ...

Might I suggest this layout ...

druidcitykr2.jpg

M=mountain
T=city tile
C=city
O=open plain, grass, whatever
blank=avaiable square but not in our city cross - could put useful resource there like stone, marble, food etc.

I think maybe we can narrow down wasted squared to 5 by replacing 3 of the mountains with fish,clam,crab. We could move some mountains to ensure 1 square approach from sea which can be blockaded navally

Thanks for the layout ruff

Edit:
One another square might be saved by replacing another mountain by a water square with oil.

Could you stick me at the end of the list/ skip this round, I'm away until Tues for Easter.

I've played an almost identical game, but without the AW and on Tiny Islands, and only barely managed to beat out the AIs to space. My question however is why the massive number of health resources in the BFC. In my game I did half production resources and half floodplains, and then put a ton of health resources outside the BFC but within my culture. In my thinking, tech was going to be the major limitation, so I wanted as many cotteges as possible. I understand you can run specialists with all of your food, but with Wall Street and Oxford able to go inside the city, will your way produce more research than a cottege path?

Ok here's the save for us to start. Our choke point is city centre . The civilization selected is changed however to Churchill , charismatic and protective . Since we are going to face 6 deity ai's on pangea with huge amount of units, drill promotions are the only way we can hold the city . Another thing is drill reduces collateral damage. So protective was taken . Since there is no philosophical protective , I was down to industrious+protective vs charismatic+ protective. However seeing as we have stone and marble my gut feeling is +2 :) from charismatic in the beginning will give us more production than industrious.

Another thing observant folks will check it is not always war setting. However manually we will declare war on every civ we meet. Advantage war weariness will be more in non-always war setting . For us it won't matter since we will be fighting in our cultural area. And later globe will mean end of unhappiness . Rather wicked on AI :satan: I admit .

Edit: oops I attached a wrong map . We will need to waste 4 squares I see now. I will edit the map to correct the mistake. And I will play my turns today . Since this is going to be more bloody than the original game we will be following a 15 turn roster. I will play 25 turns in the first turnset . From then on 15 turns .

Ruff I managed to waste only 2 squares and fittingly are desert squares. However because of that 2 naval routes need protection. Hopefully we can manage that.

Opening strategy I suggest is masonary>hunting>archery>mystism>animal husbandry>writing . After that point we can decide on oracle . Build order 2 fish boats for fish and crabs , worker , great wall,2archers.

I think since we are already on hill + cultural defence capital+ river crossing we can afford to go to drill path immediately. We already start with cg1 and drill1 .

Sweetachon : I will keep you at the end of list.

sunrise089: You are right that research will be the biggy here. However in occ you will get more research by se rather than ce. We will be running representation and caste system scientists with globe giving us no hapiness limit. Most of the Gp will be joined to the city. The research will be much more than a ce .

Greyfox : since sweetachon wants to be placed down you will be next in the list.

Check my edit where I posted the map. It was only after posting the map I saw that possibility. I will replace 2 of the squares by mountains to make the city centre choke. Everything else remains same. I will play the first roud 2day after making those small changes.

I played a test with the available save (not the final).
I played without a plan for win :blush:
I grabbed 2 religions with CoL (Oracle) and Philosophy (standard research).
Just managed to build the first axe and trireme before AI attack, they changed minds when see it.

They started to attack me with caravels in Turn 165 (1050 AD)
and with knigths in Turn 183 (1230 AD). (My defense was 2 maces, 1 spear on desert tile.) They stopped when I upgraded spear to pike and caravel to frigate.

The Barbarians ae really flooding .I think we neeed not worry about losing oraclepyramids /great wall. We need not train archer as well for long time . Great wall means no babas and Ai seems a bit distant. After great wall I think another worker could be handy. We have a high hapiness limit and anmal husbandry will open up many eaources. We do not need wheel for long time since everything is conncetd by river.

My ideas next animal husbandry>writing>mystism>meddation>Priesthood> code of lawas (oracle)

builds great wall > worker >pyramids > in between oracle>pyramids complete>Barracks archer ...

We are nicely caved in, and after repelling two more archer's attack, it is time to say a fond farewell to the barbie.

Sorry dude, you are 1 turn too late to oblivion.

So we added an inner wall of stone to our outer wall of peaks:

druid-BC2680-GreatWall.jpg

And turned the barbs to our unofficial ally.

We met Augustus, due to his border pop. Boy, was he near!

The choice of declaring war or peace had me go :confused: WTH, I thought this is OCC-AW? ... then I remember druid wanted the Always War to be manually done to increase WW damage to the AI.

Here is the world at the end of my 20 turns:

As seen from the autolog below, I didn't get us another worker. Without the need to connect resources by road, we really don't need more than 1 worker. He is working fast enough to stay 1~2 improvements ahead of the city pop growth. So instead I go with a work boat after GWall.

The plan of starting oracle doesn't go too well, as it would take us a while to priesthood. I suggest starting a library after pyramids is done. (Or if the next player feel confident of getting the Pyramids, you could go for the library first to boost our research. Personally, I will not take that risk.)

We are reaching happiness limit soon (at 6), so I suggest the worker build some mines first, no real hurry in pasturing the rest of the animals.

AC is real close, and reachable by coast the way I see the map, so I suggest the next player pay real close attention to the eastern river, and immediately build a few more warriors if you see a galley.

Looking at my last screenshot, it suddenly occur to me that it is possible for AI to land troops into our small moated hideout via the northeastern and northwestern diagonal valleys between the peaks. So there are actually 5 choke points we need to take care of:
  • the rice at NW
  • the sugar at NE
  • the city itself
  • the 2 river inlets with triremes

My error . I don't know what I was smoking while editing the map. :smoke: . Ruff's next . Seemingly workboat is the right decision. No need for a extra warrior grey fox we have archery. I researched as I didn't know whether great wall would be over before baba axes appeared .
I see you took combat 2 for warrior, wouldn't medic1 be more helpful so we don't have to promote an archer later along medic lines. Good job getting the great wall up. We are in a strong position we have an alliance with Sid meir (shown as barbarian leader in some hidden info) and we have a natural and a human wall built. It seems like Pyramids will be over before priesthood is researched.

Ruff : COULD YOU EDIT TO ADD 2 MOUNTAINS AT THE SUGAR AND RICE SPOTS TO SEAL THOSE SPOTS. Starting over all again would be painful . And it wouldn't change the game which occured so far. We are charismatic so an monument after mystism will be handy . Pre- chpping spices forest for oracle might spare us unpleasent suprises like missing it in 1 tun

Nengyvenketto : The Ai plays dumbly when there's no direct way to the capital . So this game will be way different than your reference game ,don't worry. Once our ally barbarain civilization is wiped out combat will be fierce. I'm personally hoping for a 1000+ exp unit ;) .

Seeing how many barbarain threats we have faced so early we can expect Ai to have no land improvements for some time. So mystism>mediatation>priesthood to oracle should be doable especially with our high production and marble. Hiring library specialists directly could wait till representation (via pyramids) . And once we hit caste system our gpp production will sky-rocket. I also think joining all super specialists to city would do good even engineer specialists. One Scientist for an acedemy and one for philosophy should be enough. We would be throughout the game be running multiple scientist specialists in pacifism and caste system using mostly food resources. So our joined GP will be providing us most of production expecially when we expect dozens of them :-) . Bronze working is not needed for now as protective archers can defend well. And we have enough food agriculture can be postponed as well.
