Druid's hideout

Please continue running maximum representation scientists unless it is for important wonders like NE/HE or Globe. The production we get from city centre + joined Engineers/ Prophets is enough for normal buildings and units. We do not need production we need science.

My idea philosphy (revolt to pacifism) > drama(globe) > civil service ( buearacracy) > construction ( war elephants in case we start facing knights)> moarchy > vassalage (for longbows) >paper>education(OXFORD)> nationalism>military tradition (westpoint) >gunpowder .... Now that was quite a lot wasn't it .

Builds national epic/heroic epic> lighthouse>archer>tireme>archer>tireme>monastry>theatre>globe>granary

Once globe is built work only food resources 5+ variety running all scientist specialsit meanwhile. We should be growing like a weed then with no hapiness limits or health problems. A great scientist for acedemy is still needed. Our production will come from joined specialists. Join all gp's. However 1 scientist for education would be nice if it helps us beat the liberalism race.

Both our team and the game are going fast. According to my timezone 1st round started on 6th , now its 10th and 2nd round has already started.

I made a weedy mistake again:crazyeye: . In the exotic foeign advisor modpack I read techs can research to techs has  . So we're not so technologically bckward. Still it would do good to keep sight on science. I'm starting to hope for a conquest victory. if we are the first to cavalry with our 3(barracks)+2(stable)+4 (westpint) gives us 9 exp . 2 joined Gp gives us 13 exp. So we can have combat 3 +march cavalry. March cavalry + Medic 3 warlord cavalry is a truely fearsome force which keeps on moving healing attacking at at a terrible pace. We might be able to wipe out 1,2 civ with cavalry. Then 1,2 with tanks and later with bombers, tanks, gunships. We might have a conquest victory. Though it would be better if we defend till we have technological superiority.

If it's no tech trading we cannot see what others have researched. Japan, Rome know IW for sure, we don't and you can't see it on tech advisor.
We should insert Compass and Optics somewhere in the tech path for caravels (before AI have it).

Two of the AIs also know currency - they have dollar amounts against their name which indicate the knowledge of currency.

Well, I guess I lost us the first unit ... starting of the turns, our lone trireme surrounded by 3 japanese counterparts was sank ... after bravely taking one of them down. This game is about hiding out ... so, no more unnecessary venturing out. We should probably reinforce our two lone triremes with more ships though (but after building the heroic epic).

On the land war side, our archer is almost invincible. Almost. SO, keep the promotion on hold until it gets injured ...

We got Philosophy, and added one more religion to London.

Great, that means one more Monastery.

However, we got a prophet and a useless missionary.

I promptly deleted the missionary, and merged the prophet.

Drama was in, and I selected Civil Service and started the theatre (which is currently undergoing a renovation to outfit with a Globe).

With National Epic and pacifism, i got a second Great Person.

Damned! Scientist! I want scientist! :aargh: Note also in the above picture the roman army now boast a war elephant ... which reminds me of a joke:

Spoiler joke :

An elephant met a camel for the first time, and asked her: "Why did you have your breast grown on your back?"

The camel sneered: "F*ck off, I am not talking to someone with a pen!s on his face!"

Back to the game, we met yet another crazy dude ...

and the strangest thing happened immediately thereafter:

Heh, free spying!

End of my turnset, our archer got injured again, so next player can choose an appropriate promotion (I suggest combat I).

A General was also borned in the last turnset, obviously we should merge him as drill instructor.

Our current city stats:

I have yet to build the Heroic Epic, as I don't want pollution of more artist points. But do get it build soon.

We are currently 10 turns away from Globe. I anticipated that and have been allowing London to grow like 10 turns before. After the Globe, there should still be enough time to squeeze in a granary before the city grow, so please do so to speed up London's growth since we would soon be without happiness cap. The granary would also add 3 more health I think. We should probably also add one more work boat to net the other fish, as fish gives one more coin than the pastures.

The honor of losing the first unit belongs to me grey fox  . An mali axeman with an around 1% chance to victory took out our other archer meaning I suppose heroic epic for mali. Sending the tireme for exploring was a risk to meet the other civs and get them into war mode and preventing them from advancing too much.

We can start granary right now and keep on emphasisng max growth using culture slider for happiness till globe is finished. since we already have theatre each 10% gives us 2 :) . It's a rare thing our relegion spreading to unmet civ's and meeting them that way. It would not have happened if we declared on shaka early since relegion doesn't s[pread with war. I'm almost tempted to use one of those stupid prophets we are producing to build a confused shrine to help it spread further from the shaka city. But it would also contribute more prophet points and we have enough prophets as of now. .

Btw we have pretty oppenetns . Monty, Shaka, brennus, Toku,Augustus and Mansa Musa . 4 strong war monger,1 builder and 1 hybrid augustus.

@Fox - I notice that you are still using the out of date v2.0.3 RuffMod. That version contains spoiler information (see the pillaging during the Aztec / Celtic war). v2.0.4 removes that.

That archer is awesome. Able to take down five Praetorian with hardly a scratch. I would be super p*ssed if I was Rome and that happened to my units.

from the battlements said:
Come on you silly roman swordsman - you spineless jerks, bring it!
Nope - missed me, take that and that and that
Right - next!!!
[duck, weave, spin, kill]
Oooo close ... but only cut my new coat - that makes me angry
[arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, knife, knife]
Next!
what? Where did everybody go?

Btw we better build one more archer. I dont like those 89% odds we had in one round of combat . We could have easily lost that combat. Better 2 more archers. Another point for some odd reason the game gives you double production on workboats with heroic. So we can build them after heroic. longbows attacking means feudalism 1 tech away from guilds. After civil service we better go asap to longbows ourselves.

Bah... GPs, and now Globe, HE, and NE, the wait for a GS is neverending. Surely this time we'll come good.

also - another good report by Mr Fox ...

Roster
1. Druidravi
2. Greyfox (just played)
3. ruff-hi (got it) - I'll try and play tonight but it might be tomorrow
4. nengyvenketto (on deck)
5. sweetachshon

@ruff: yeah, I noticed that after playing. I usually don't play on this computer (but on my laptop, which ironically had better graphics card and faster CPU than my desktop). This must be one of the first game I played in months on this computer, hadn't got around to installing your latest patch, and i simply forgot all abt it.

@druid: I wonder if building more than one new archer would be helpful ... if you noticed, even when the archer is at 1.7 health (which is why the longbow has only 89% of losing), the computer still chooses the archer as best defender. Unless you are willing to waste one or two GG on the new archer to bring him up to the caliber of our super-defender, else chances are the new archer won't get any chance at defending. I think adding one more archer is okay, but anymore is simply wasting turns.

@sweetacshon: Although the globe will inject more artists point, but we can increase our pop further to run more scientists. So sooner or later, if we are determined enough, we would be able to produce an academy-winning scientists ;)

lurking:

sorry if I give my comments here. I have been following this game with great interest so far and I think you do a great job :goodjob:

However, I think you walk the game on a very very thin rope...If your top defender goes done and loses, you are toast. We found in our AW games that bodies do count to absorb the impact. Just wait until catapults show up and their impact will be terrible. 6 collaterals can shred anyone into pieces unless you got top notch healers and enough units to spread the damage...And once the enemy shows up with those units, you have hardly any time to react...longbows will of course help a lot in this regard.

Yeah I am surprised by the lack of cats from AI ... with phants around, cats shouldn't be far. While I agree on the fearful power of collateral damage, it will affect our top defender least. Unless luck is extremely bad on our side, the top defender will not be scratched by a handful of cats. Collateral damage only applies to other units that are not defending against the cat.

But I do agree we need one more archer just in case a bad RNGod roll killed our super-archer. But I don't see the need for any more at this stage. (What we do need are triremes).

--

Addition: On reacting to enemy new units: remember that they need cross 2 desert tiles to reach us. So contrary to what some of us jokingly say this game is mostly just press enter, I actually spend quite a significant amount of time each turn to keep hovering over the approaching enemies stack and those revealed enemy cities to keep any surprises low.

--

Grey fox that archer got reduced to 2.1/3 from a combat with a preatorian and then those 80 ish combat odds started appering. If we had another promted archers they would have taken the combat then and would have 95+ % odds. Since we can produce lvl4 directly units out of gate due to 3 joined gg. We can take an archer promte city garrison2,3 and drill 2 and another archer promoted to drill 4 . Those cats will be a prob as therat has said our drill 4 archers get reduced collateral and we should get our next gg into a medic 3 warlord chariot, to help face it .

All wise words. Prudence would dictate another couple of archers, and I have definately had the same thoughts regarding a medic... hmm.. not adding anything new here, am I? I would've needed more characters than "I agree" anyway. ;)

does anyone know what happens if you merge a GG with more than 1 unit? Do all units get free upgrades and access to the GG promotions?

No, you can attach it just to 1 unit. Others standing on the same tile just get a part of the +20XP, but not the other special things.

No problem, build as many archers as you want. They are cheap anyway.

My point is, who do you think the cats will be facing in battle in order to dealt collateral damage? The super-defender, and collateral damage don't apply to the defender in the battle. It applies to the bystanders. So if we had only one top defender, he won't suffer any collateral damage no matter how many thousands cats he is facing, unless he is injured already such that another defender takes his place. Then, the collateral damage he suffers is of less significant since he is already injured badly anyway (notice that at 1.7/3, he is still selected as the best defender). Now, if we had 2 top defenders, then they will take turns facing the cats, and take turns suffering collateral damage. That's why I don't see a point in having more than 2 archers (the extra one is just in case a praetorian, as you said, had an extremely lucky day). Instead, we should have more units to share the collateral damage. We already had 3~4 axes and as many spears. We should probably keep adding 1 unit per turnset though.

The best course of action is to get feudalism as soon as possible. Once that archer becomes a longbow, even a grenadier won't hurt him.
