I'm very new to Civilization and am enjoying Civ 4 a whole lot. I'm just figuring out the basic mechanics of TBS combat. I'm interested in maybe playing a TBS game on the DS, so until Civilization DS comes out, which of these two games would you recommend for me? I'm leaning towards AoE as it seems closer to Civ, but I'd like to know what people who have played them think. Thanks!

Geometry Wars FTW!!!

AOE is closer to Civ. I like it better than Advance wars (which is a good game, also).

I highly recommend Advance Wars. I haven't played AoE, but it doesn't sound so good, and I don't like ports, so I would choose AWDS.

Yeah, the lockup in the game just ruined AOE DS. Advance Wars is better.

But it isn't a port. It just has the same name and setting. The mechanics are similar to Advance Wars (it is a turn based game with almost identical combat sytems), just with tech research, more units, and more maps.

I'm gonna buy AoE when it comes out. Can't really say I've heard of Advance Wars...

HAVEN'T HEARD OF ADVANCE WARS?!?!?!:gripe:
Are you mad?:thumbdown

I saw this topic last night, and I've been playing advance wars I and II since then, only breaking to come here and yell at you. Definitely get advanced wars ZenMonkey. You can either play the campaign which will stretch your tactical mind and your patience to the limit, or you can mess around in the war room and beat up on computers you set up to lose (it's a nice self esteem booster).

i liked advance wars for the gameboy, but i'm a longtime AOE fan. i'd sat go AOE.

I played Advance Wars once. It was the hardest game I played. Impossible for me.

It's not so hard if you start from the beginning. If you can play civilization, you can play this too.

Errr... stupid question:

What is DS ?

I did start from the beginning. Civilization is far easier than Advance Wars.

No it's not. Some of the missions in Advance Wars might seem overwhelming at first, but when you get the hang of it, they are pretty easy IMO.
I was able to finish the normal campaign on my own, when I played the hard campaign I had to look a few things up in some online strategy guides, but I did that almost on my own too.
In civilization, however, I can't win on any difficulty higher than noble.

Actually, I prefer Advance Wars over Civilization. It's more simple, and therefore more balanced.

One thing to consider is that Advance wars is set scenarios, so it is possible to perfect a particular mission.
