4000BC(1) - The people of the Yamato Clan get tired of roaming the land and decided to settle down next to a lake with a goldmine and some nice plain.
3800BC(5) - Kyoto send out its first clan warrior band to discover the surrounding.
3600BC(9) - Kyoto recruited another warrior band to defend the city and start gathering the clan people to expand the Yamato Clan's influance to the surrounding area.
3450BC(13) - We meet another race of strange people who call themselves the Americans and they offer us Pottery for the Wheel.
3350BC(15) - A strange man carrying a water bag approaches our warrior band and identifying themselves as the Russian. They refuse to accept our offer of the Wheel for Bronze Working.
3200BC(18) - A new band of adventurer is gathered in Kyoto and move towards north where there is a place rumoured to have a beast of burden called horse.
3100BC(20) - Shogun Sheer step down from the throne.

Our position looks good but with both American & Russian close by I believe wars cannot be avoided. Good luck to Plux and lets get this thing rolling! :D

Here is the savegame.

coming up---

Ancient tech except Monarchy and Republic + ~1/3 cost.
Max research time 50 turns.
Hills can be irrigated
Tundra gives no food
Resources give more bonus (now it`s worth fighting for them even if they aren`y strategic)
AI-AI trade is 100% on Regent, 110% on Monarch and so on.
Bombard changed accordingly.
2 new cultural levels, 1 at 5:2, one at 3:2 so rate can be judged better.

- more Uumpfff for battleships (bombard now 1,5 times that of cruisers,
- age bonus (1 to 4 HP) for advanced units,
- better attack for nuke subs and subs,
- changed HP to conscript=4, regular=6, veteran=8, elite=11
- changed bombardment accorgingly,
- added bombardment for all bow-equipped units and all fast units with guns plus tank and Modern armour,
- added free units / town for Republic since now often Monarchy is referable over Republic because of large Military.

3100BC: Plux-San takes the lead over the great Yamato-clan. He immediately decides to have some tea with his neighbours. Lovely old grumpy and annoyed Catherine wants an additional 9gp for her technology of Bronze Working, but seems willing to accept 1gp as well. No problem! Now we can set our great minds to other sciences, and strengthen our bonds with Russia (for now). The Americans have Warrior Code and Masonry, but are not willing to trade, so we decide to explore the noble act of Iron working on a rate of 1.9.0 as it makes no difference if science would be increased. Now we get 4gp/turn and 50 turns to IW!

3050BC: Our settler slightly changes it's course as Plux-san spots a nice place next to the other lake. Our warrior sees some whales splashing around near the west-coast

3000B: Size 1 Kyoto finishes a warrior and starts a spearman. Let's also build barracks soon, which we need to upgrade our warriors to swordmen!

2950BC: Osaka is found next to the lake and river between Washington and Kyoto. In stead of building barracks in Kyoto Plux-san decides to build them here.

2900BC: With Osaka founded the science rate is set to 2.8.0 so we will discover IW faster, and keep slightly increasing our treasury.

2850BC: Our warriors wander around a bit more

2800BC: Some pink borders (probably the French) appear in the east close to our empire.

2750BC: Nothing

2710BC: Kyoto finishes it's spear, and is now ready to build another settler. There are some nice spots around craving for a Japanese city!

2670BC: Joan wants Pottery The Wheel and Ceremonial Burial together with 25gp for Alphabet and Warrior Code. It's a bit expensive, but Plux-san decides to take it, as he finds it both good techs.

2630BC: Zzz
2590BC
2550BC

2510BC: The French will expand rapidly, as Paris has 2 game and 1 cattle.

2470BC: Kyoto finishes another settler, it's heading eastwards to settle near the river near Paris.

2430BC: (yawn)

2390BC: We trade Alphabet for Masonry and 8 gold with the Americans.

2350BC

2310BC: Washington builds another warrior to be upgraded to swordsman later. Will now build another Settler. Tokyo is found near Paris and Orleans, and set to spearman.

2270BC: The Americans have founded Boston on a very stupid spot, wasting a nice wheatland.

2230BC: Guiding his warriors to some last exploration, the old and grey leader Plux-san, draws his last breath. Time and opportunity has come for a new leader. Plux-san leaves some last notes...

'Not much room is left for building new cities, we will have to act fast and fierceful. Therefore both Osaka and Kyoto are creating new bands of settlers. The warriors around our empire are to be upgraded to swordsmen in Osaka once we discover Iron Working. There is one to the east of France exploring. I think we should concentrate our efforts to the destruction of the American empire up north. They are not strong yet, and have good lands. I have indicated our a high-priority spot for Osaka's settler as it has both wheat, horses and cattle. The best of luck to you, my son, and do as you wish...'

Use a graphics program such as PaintShop or Corel that offers a 'capture' mode. Set it wither to a hotkey that isn`t used in Civ3 (like Ctrl-F1) or for a time delay. Start capture. Siwtch to civ3 via the windows task bar. Initiate capture or wait for it to begin. If you choose full screen, you should be fine!

b)i tried looking around for the explanation on what those 3 numbers mean. If someone could brake it down thanks :)

research, tax, luxury. the percentages you set on the F1- screen. 1.9.0 means 10% science, 90% tax, 0% luxury

the venerable shogun plux has died, long live the shogun

2230BC shogun selous first decree was that science was upped
2190 ZZzzz
2150 ZZZZzzzz
2110 ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz
2070 upped science once again to 0/10/0, encountered the aztecs but they are DUMB
2030 yari samuri have been finished in the fledling town of tokyo (spearmen) and they start a temple to out pray those frenchies
1990
1950 kyoto builds some settlers and begins some samuri archers for a furute assult against the evil/hated americans (well they ARE on OUR land)
1910 osaka builds settler and starts on a worker for the greater good of the japaneese empire, we meet the chineese but they are also dumb
1870 the learnered art of iron working has been acheived and our great scientest and philosiphers begin to start on the art of horseback riding, changed kyotos production to spearmen as we have some iron in close proximity and cold steel is much better for killing the americans than wooded shaft
1830 our great warrior unit discovered a village but dissrespected the local customs (they were far to weird to respect anyway) and they raised a great warrior clan to smite our valient warrior, but our warrior was able to fight off the evil barbarian hordes, the hordes were very easy to kill so we didnt learn anything from it
1790 edo is founded and begins on a yari samuri
1750 the shoguns damn pen stops working, so he must fetch for another and satsuma is founded in the dessert and begins to build a temple
1725 we tresspass on american soil to find out about our future resorces, osaka finishes its great temple, a testament to our great gods lokking over the japaneese peoples
1700 kyoto builds yari samuri and begins on some more, our exploring warriors meet the greeks, but they are also dumb :(
1675 tokyo builds a temple and starts a worker to connect it up to the network
1650
1625 tresspassed into american soil, but NOT asked to leave ... they must be scared of us :)
1600 edo builds yari samuri and starts a temple
1575 kyoto finishes more yari samuris and begins on some more, but more importantly, the shogun selous runs afoul of some misterious deseise and falls dead while writing some notes for his soon to be ruling son

we will soon be ready to invade the hated americans, the road network is almost linked up to the iron and culture will soon expand to encompass a good stock of horses, our learned scientest will soon have learnt how to fight from horseback, there are no barracks built so that could be a plan and after a few more temples are built our radient culture will continue to grow and prosper

Thanks for the info killer :)

*d9phoenix muddles around his computer mumbling .. now where i do last put P Pro6 hum... ahh yes there it is*

*Budget has been adjusted to 0.10.0 Our treasury is at 40 gold with a debt of 6 gold a turn, I have set the goal to Literature to gain access to something called the "Great Library" from which to learn things*

And with his last dieng breath he bestows his power onto Killer to carry on the clan name and prestige....

Afterthoughts.....

The computer just knew exactly when to attack us that would cause us the most damage to our plan. The americans will soon have 2 sources of iron and 1 source of horses. The french to the south have pretty much closed the gap. We are looking at border wars on both sides our try and go for culture flips.

My normal tatic in this situation is to isolate the americans and start hitting the french with massive culuture to create a buffer zone. We also need to get a settler north of Edo to make sure the americans don't try and settle that area again.

The civ's in this game especially for Regent seem to be extremely Poor... We need to "acquire" more luxuries, but if memory serves all we have is spices and nothing really nearby.

Good luck Killer .. i actually envy your job... Even though the french are polite atm.. be wary of them.. i got the feeling from them as the 2 warriors ran by there empire that they want our iron and spices.. *grins evily* thats my story and im sticking to it.. ok off to bed now.. it have to be to work in less then 12 hours.

Thanx DarkSheer, I got it now!

OK, I`m done.

1100 BC - As the Phoenix steps down from the thrown, a young noble named Killer, known for his rushlessness and his fighting prowess, steps forward to claim the rule of the glorious Yamato Empire. Not even crowned yet, he already deposes the governor of Tokyo and abandones the Colossum. Protests of enraged citizens he sweeps aside with a short word: "This is a time for war, open or not, hot or cold!" He forces fighters from Osaka to abandon their training for Swordsmen and prepare to settle in foreign lands. The foundationds for the Colossus he orders to be used for a military training center since, as he points out, the proximity of Edo to the iron mine in the mountains will greatly speed up production in that city when it grows - albeit slowing it`s growth. Tokyo also begins to construct Barracks, these are laid out to train not swordsmen, but, the settlers - protected by the Horsmen - to the east, the Swordsmen and Spearman the new unit type called 'Horsemen', now available since the wild horses of Osaka have been tamed. Killer-san believes them to be very effective as a protecting force for Swordsmen, as Scouts and as fast reinforcement.

1075 BC - In a colourfull yeremony, Killer-san in crowned! A happy conicidence allows him to be the first in the empire to pray in the newly built Temple of Kyoto. He then collects the wise and knowlegdeable of the entire empire about him to decide where the settlers from osaka will head. One option is to block the Americans from resettling in the northwest, the other to spit them in the face and settle between the Philidelphia and Washington. Rash and agressive as every, the younger nobles pressure Killer-san to settle the meadows in the east, but the old wise men bring forth strong reasons to secure the west coast. After long deliberations than wander to and fro Killer-san speaks up. 'It is not a time for half-measures! Phoenix-san has bestowed this crown to me so I would continue his work - and I will do it! We must claim the best lands for us, we must pressure the Americans, we must keep France at bay - and a mountains village will not help us do that. To the east the settlers will go - but our troops will block the mountain passage in the east to the Americans. Then, we will ask people from another city to settle there. Eastwards Ho!"

Thus, the troops set out from Osaka, the settlers to the east, protected by the Horsemen, the Swordsmen companies to the northwest.

The workers who have finished the road to the spice fields in the Satsuma forest are reassigned to cut down the forest between Kyoto and Edo, then they will enlarge our irrigation system so it can be of benefit to Edo. One nad of workers will connect Takyo and Orleans with a wide road to speed up travel and troop movement, and to allow the exchange of goods.

As the year draws old, our troops in the north report a settler and his protection moving westwards near Washington - but he is French! Our troops in the north-east mountains are informed of his moves.

1000 BC:
Edo finishes the Barracks and starts to train its first unit, a company of Spearmen.
Satsumas influence grows, it now includes the barley-rich fields on the sounthers side of the river.

1050 BC - the troops in the mountains have reached their starting positions and are now capable of blocking the passage to anyone. The first axes bit into the stems of the forest near Kyoto.
Our exloring Warriors report seeing blue flags on mountaintops. They belive this to be the German homland and plan to ascend the mounitains to gain a look on the lands beyond.

In winter, French Warriors are reported on several borders. They show no hostile intent, still Killer-san urges the trainers in the Barracks to hurry. He threatenes to force the citizens to work faster and they promise to do their best. The French settler enters our lands from the north

In the year 1025 BC, Killer-san sends out the last troop of Swordemen from Osaka to block the French settlers travels.
Our Warrior climbes the mountains with the blue flags and finds himself looking down on a small village with the unpronouncable name of Konigsberg. Immediately, it`s ruler demands our retreat, which Killer-san agrees to, with an apology. His servants later spread the rumor that he left the throne room for dinner murmuring vile oaths under his breath and muttering "warte, warte nur ein Weilchen....". An interpreter who speaks the vile German language translated this into "wait, wait just a bit longer...." - a german song about a killer who savagely cut his victims to pieces. Is this the first sign of Killer-sans short temper but long memory? Is this the first foreboding of war with Germany???

1000 BC - report trickle in of all French units moving southwards. Is France at war in the south? Their settler tried to circumvent our troops and runs into the blocking force. Hopefully they will be able to hold him a wehile longer!
Tokyo completes the Barracks and starts training Horsemen.
The mines south of Edo are completed and the worker is sent to the iron source to mine them.
Road construction to orleans is begun.

In 975 BC, Satsuma send out another group of Workers. They prepare to build a road between Satsuma and the capital. The floodplains east of Satsuma have been irrigated and the worker moves the the grainladden fields on the other shore.
Kagoshima is founded in the northeast. It starts building a Temple right away.

950 BC - Kyoto sends out setllers to the incence hills. The Aztec Warrior met at the southern border is invited to an audince with Killer-san. To brighten the mood of ruler Montozuma, Killer-san presents him with information how to contact the German ruler Bismarck. How much of this is malintent will always be unknown, but since both montezuma and bismarck are very proud and like war......

Other exploring warriors now also found Babylonian territory. They encountered a settler of that devious nation, too. he is escorted by three warriors.
Mine construction on our iron and road construction in the Satsuma area have started.

The Babylonians start on the Oracle, the Colossus is completed in Zimbabwe.
Three American Archers are seen moving westwards on our norther border.

In 925 BC the French sttler is now herded southwards on our territory near Osaka. Our settler has reached the coast and will soon rech his destination.

900 BC - Edo finishes training a company of Spearmen. Killer-san has the town start on the Pyramids, a Great Wonder.
The lands north of Nineveh proove to be all settled by Babylon.

Killer-san reaches a bold and risky decision: He will send out an escorted settler from Tokyo to build a town between teh French and Chinese on the river near Shainghai to keep pressure on both nations.

Our treasrue is dwindling rapidly with science at 100%. But Killer-san decides against lowering spending since we still own 62 Gold while loosing 10 every 25 years. Thus we will reach literature, then have to rearrange funding.

875 BC - the babylonians are found to have access to iron near Nineveh. Killer-san orders our Warrior to violate the borders and climb a hill near the town to spy out the Babylonian territory. Meanwhile, the French settlers tried to pass our troops in the north but fails.

850 BC - the settler from Tokyo sets out, escorted by a company of Spearmen. The town starts training a replacement. Osaka finishes training Swordsmen and starts Spearmen. Kyoto completes Spearman and starts Horseman. The road to Orleans is completed. Killer-san orders further roads built southwards.

We found Nara on top of the Incense hill and start construction of a Temple.
Our Warriors ignore Hammurabis warning and press on into Babylonian lands. Thus, Elipi and Babaylon are discovered. Babylon has access to ivory, but hasn`t built a road yet.

825 BC - Hammurabi the coward asks our troops to leave right away. Killer-san pulls them back. He is overheard murmuring vile oaths again.
Orleans is now protected by two Spearmen. The citizens lay the foundations for a Granary, a building that Killer-san plans to change into a library soon.
The French finally accept that there is no room for them in the north and start to withdraw. Our fighters press them towards Osaka.

800 BC - the Egyptians start construction of the Oracle. The Forest west of Kyoto is cut down, the wood used to spped production in the capital. Now, our irrigation of the plains around Edo can proceed. A new road construction is started to connect Osaka and Kagoshima and another one from Osaka to Nara. Killer-san decides to take the longer road southwards around the mountains insteaad of across them.

775 BC - the French are angered by our passing settler. India starts constructing the oracle. The Americans move troops west - Killer-san decides to mass troops on the hills and mountains near Osaka and Nara. Our explorinf Warriors move back towards the Chinese territory so they can protect our city-to-be there.

750 BC - many things happen: for the first time, a positive income is encountered (4 Gold). We discover Literatur. killer-san decides to do a trade-round before we start a new project. American troop movements are suspicious - they move 2 workers into the cover of Philadelphia. Still, none of their troops dare invade our territory.
1 Spearmen (Osaka and Satsuma) and 1 Horseman (Kyoto) are completed. All towns start construction of Libraries.
The French settler moves south still, now close to Kyoto. The Horseman is sent to Tokyo, the Spearman from Osaka moved to the mountaintop north of the town.
In a brutal bloodbath, Killer-san forces to people of Kagoshima to complete their Temple. Many die and hatred for the ruler is only suppressed by the miltary force in town.

Nagoya will need a Temple ASAP - if I was you I´d rush it but that`s for you to decide :)

Some very peaceful 20 turns. American has been constantly patroling the border while the French spearman/settler finally give up and go back to France. Exchanged the worldmap with a few Civs and now we know a larger part of the world. I thought I selected 12 Civs on a continental map, why is our continent cramped with 10 Civs? And try to build horseman more instead of Swordsman as horseman can be upgraded and not swordsman (unless its modded. ;) ) Once again good luck to Plux.

If anyone can't take his turn, just post a message so the next person can continue.

Here is the savegame.
