DX11 Crash and greyed out medium leaderscreen

So I've installed Civ 5 on my new laptop (Win 7, 4 Gb Ram, 750HD etc) and when I start the DX11 version, it crashes before I see the main menu. So I load the DX9 version. On this version, the 'Medium' option for leaderhead screen quality is greyed out. Any ideas why?

The graphics card is probably not capable of DX11 (high quality leaders need DX11) -> what graphics card do you have?

It's a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M With 2048 MB DDR3

That card is sufficient AFAIK (but i'm not a hardware crack) and does support DX11.
hmm...drivers are up to date?

You shouldn't.
You have no idea when the rig was put together, and you don't know what they've installed on it. Please check it .

How do I find the drivers?

Windows Search > Device Manager > Display Adaptors > right click on Nvidia GeForce GT 540M > Update drivers.

But if they are not up to date you actually should just go here to download them like normal: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

It seems there are no 500M series drivers for download yet - the card itself is still very new. This is of interest to me because I ordered my girlfriend a new laptop with this card specifically for civ.
