That's because the short name doesn't change, but the long name does change.

You don't need it, it's built into RFC.

My guess is that you were looking at the short names on the scoreboard. The only names that change are the ones along the top of the diplomacy screen when you're talking to a civ.

You can look at them in the foreign advisor screen... it's kind of interesting to check every few turns

As Egypt, does anybody know how to change from the 'Old Kingdom' to the 'New Kingdom'?

I've always found it interesting that Ramesses II should be pharaoh of the Old Kingdom when he's from the New Kingdom 19th Dynasty.

Nope, it is available for vanilla and Warlords as well, but you have to download the latest version.
