Ok I'm thinking of buying one (or convincing my parents to get me one for christmas:D  ) but I have no idea what the heck they are. So what exactly is the difference between an E-machine and a regualar computer. While I'm asking Q could somone tell me why it is sometimes that when I hit a key on the keyboard the keyboard doesn't aknowledge that I hit that key?

1: Don't know what an E-machine is.
2: Bad keyboard? (I'm currently returning a computer because the keys 'space', 'y' and 't' don't work very well.

E-Machines is just another brand of PCs. There's no difference.

Oh ok. Why are they so cheap then? I found one that had a lot of great stuff including 256MB RAM and all this other great stuff for only $499.99 thats including the moniter. I found another one at best buy with all this great stuff for only $99.99.

Anything that cheap is most likely not as good as anything from Dell, HP, Sony or Gateway.

And if you are getting a new computer, get at least a 2.0 GHz processor and 512 RAM (RAM does not need to be bought with the computer, it can be obtained fairly cheaply alone). If you do this, you can be fairly sure that it will run some recent games at a decent framerate.

Good thats all I ask of it. It's too bad I can't get rid of the internet on the thing, seeing as I have no modems in my room.

can you post the specs up?

if it is from that link you gave, it said it was unexpandable from 256MB, which with that processor, will be letting you down.

Why is it cheap?

- Celeron processor
- All generic parts except for hard drive
- Uses onboard sound & video so no extra cards there
- Almost no expansion/upgrade room

If you just want to play Civ and have it for school stuff/ the 'net, it'll be fine. If you want to do more serious gaming, or think you'll want to upgrade yourself, I'd get something else.

Edit: oh yeah, that monitor is fine.. it's basically the same as mine, except mine is 19". Had it nearly 2 years now with no problems.

I have some family members who bought an eMachines 'puter, and it was barely worth the $500 that they paid for it.

If I were you, I'd stick with a better name brand like Dell or Sony. Then again I'm not.
