That's the first time something like this has happened, and it is pretty interesting.
On my SBC Yahoo! E-mail account, I got the following message from the management team from that company. This is what it said:
------------------
Title: E-mail Warning
Text: Dear user of Sbcglobal.net e-mail server gateway,

We warn you about some attacks on your e-mail account. Your computer may
contain viruses, in order to keep your computer and e-mail account safe,
please, follow the instructions.

Further details can be obtained from attached file.

The Management,
The Sbcglobal.net team
-----------------------------
…And the attached file to the email was titled "pub_document.zip" and it was 22k.
When I clicked to open it, the email virus scanner said that there was a detected virus and that I can not download it. Here's the actual file's name
"W32.Beagle@mm!zip"

If this is a scam, than it is a great one, considering that the email I got it from was supposedly the management team at management@sbcglobal.net.

So, I don’t know what else to think besides that this was actually a scam, and thankfully, the email virus scanner prevented me from downloading it.

I don't use SBC, but I suggest calling them or e-mailing an address you know is valid asking them if they sent this e-mail, and if so, that it had a file that was a virus according to the scanner. I think this is a scam, because a quick google yielded bad results about W32.Beagle@mm!zip. For example, http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle@mm!zip.html and http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_101059.htm

Never open any e-mail attachments unless you are expecting them, even if they seem okay.

You are lucky this is just a worm. I have heard of people falling for a similar scam involving bank account details.

Yeah, usually I can tell pretty fast if it's scam or not. But this email seemed legitimate because the SBC guys do email people from time to time about this stuff.

You could always check the header info, which will tell you where the e-mail came from. While you could fake any e-mail address you wanted, you can't send an e-mail through SBC's servers without access to them.

CivRules - you actually opened the thing? I delete those emails on contact.

Well, like I said, SBC people do send emails from time to time and this came as no surprise.
Even after I tried to open the file (and wasn't allowed to download it) I checked the comp to see if it was clean, and it was.
