What setting should I use to have all civ starting alone on a continent, or at leaat on a decent island (where 7-8 cities can be built).

I can't find the correct archipelago settings to achieve that (I always play fractal map type, so I am not familiar with the other maps type)

BTW , I am playing BTS

Many thanks

Perhaps custom continents?
Number of continents: one per civ

Custom Continents should do the trick. The map will look terrible ugly and unnatural however.

Islands. (or custom continents/hemisphere as stated above, but islands enables more opponents, though generally smaller landmasses)
Experiment, start a few games, go into worldbuilder to see if it fits.

I did custom continents like others have suggested and just set it to the same amount as there were civs.

When i did this though, 2 of them (of 6 i think) got settled on the same island and the spare one was just barbaran land.

It's a fun game to play, i did it when i was planning on trying a SE for the first time to make things simpler :)

Hemispheres, and set the number of continents to match your number of civs. (6 usually produces a very nice map.) These usually have ocean separating them, but not always.
