Is it just me or is this a general feeling here? Ive played alot of 6, but trying to play nr 5 since everybody says its the best thing since sliced bread. But cant get over the slow early expansion. I feel like this is one thing they fixed in 6.

I don't know, early game is always fun regardless of whether it's civ6 or 5 or 4, but yes 6 has more stuff for you to do, which can be either a boon or a nuisance

No I don't think it's boring.
But if you think expansion is slow, I can see why. Civ 5 is really tailored around befriending city-states and/or getting luxuries, and if you don't have them, your happiness will tank badly, leaving you with maybe 3 good cities max...

There are times I twiddle my thumbs until Caravels technology so I can explore and trade more, so to me the game really slows down hard in the medieval era. Intentional perhaps? But to me that's not too common a feeling.

I would say the opposite actually. I love the early game... of any of the iterations of Civ. I can't tell you how many games I've started and then quit after the early game is over. Is the expansion and exploration that is the most fun, uncovering the map, deciding where to found cities, meeting opponents. I think most people actually like the early game better; one reason Civ 7 came up with eras - to try and get people to finish games lol.
