But you have to set Bulgaria up, they need certain conditions to thrive and rely on a certain playstyle. Balancing them will be trivial - lower the production bonus when pillaging.

Picking The Abbasids is always helpful, they are just a bit too perfect.

What's annoying me about overpowering the Bulgarians: the AI doesn't even pillage. (Happy to see evidence I'm wrong on this.) If we would have to find ways to defend against them, they would add a layer to the game beyond Roflstomping.

Yes, I'm very disappointed that the AI doesn't pillage. Of course, this means Bulgaria is much worse in their hands. But I think in general it would more interesting if the AI would pillage more, especially for healing their troops in "sieges."
