Just wondered if anyone knows of a 'civ' or civ style game, that would allow for green play. (As far as I know in Civ you need to build roads, im looking for something you can play and win as a green agenda, no or few roads, green techs etc...)

Any ideas.

TTFN.

You can make a mod. :) You can make the game be pretty much any way you want it to be.

Like the idea, and I could do what I usually do, and thats start going on how Im going to do that, but what usually happens is that Im all talk and no dangles.

Just in case I do get brave, is there a modding guide for civ 3 anywhere?

(I did try civ iv but my laptop spanked me till I promised never to do it again.)

You don't have to build roads. If you search the (Civ4) succession game forum, you should be able to find a game in which no roads had been build, and no forests had been chopped down. I dimly recall lurking it.
It is a very challenging variant, to be sure, but it might be winnable, if you pick the right land form and civilization. I can't recall how the succession game in question ended.

Well, first of all you have to decide what civ version you are going to make it for. I can only help with Civ3 modding (any variant of civ3), but there are people who can help with other versions. :)

What about SimEarth?

I realized what you meant. I was just saying that I can only help with Civ3.

Give me some more details about what you'd want in your mod.

First, I am trying to think of a way to make the game be winnable without roads. First of all, you either have to give some advantage to the human player and tell him "build only few roads!!" or you disable roads for everyone, but in that case the AI has to know how to use the new features so that it actually doesn't need those roads.
The biggest problem with roads is that you need them to connect resources. The first solution that came into my mind regarding this is something along the lines of a) reducing the resources needed for units (e.g. make all units require a maximum of 1 resource, not 2 like cavs for example; and making units like Swordsmen resource-free), b) drastically increasing the appearance ratio of all STRATEGIC resources, maybe using duplicate resources too, and reducing the number of bonus resources, increasing their bonuses though, and c) disable roads for everyone. This would mean that you'd try to make strategic resources appear almost on all tiles, and the only way to get them would be by settling directly on them. You'd also need lower corruption, I think.

About Green techs, that's easy to do. And green improvements, also easy to do. :) Tell me exactly what techs or other green stuff you have in mind, so I can search for the icons or do them myself, as it's fairly easy.

Just reading through what your saying, it struck me, perhaps we can 'rebadge roads' to be something else, maybe solar trains (or what ever). Maybe this would be the way forward, or even if it is possible have roads and solar trains, and maybe be make 1 unhappy cit for each road square? Actually it could be a really interesting project. Thinking about it more I think the unhappy cit route would be the way to go for any non green tech. (in someways much like the real world today)

What do you think.

Your idea is possible, considering that the graphic file for the roads can be modded to accommodate something like that. :) But it would take some work, as the road file has many small tiles in it that all need to be changed. BTW - you are talking about solar trains - do you want this mod to span from 4000 BC to 2050 AD, as the regular game, or a more modern timeframe? :)

Im not that bothered, more its an idea that I feel sid overlooked. You can beat others by, conquest, wonder bilding, race to space etc... But all these types of victory require a strong economy, which I spose is the opposite to a eco win.
I will think some more and get back to you.

Yeah! That would be cool. No factorys , No polution , but you could have nuclear power plants because they dont cause polution.

Nuclear Power is eco unfriendly in many ways but heres a couple for you.
1) When the fuel is spent its a lil warm.
2) Raw materials used in the consrtuction and powering of said place.
3) When its goes bang, you get a lil sun burnt.
4) Eco Civ would have to more then just nuke instead of coal,it would have to be the whole ethos...

BAN THE NUKE

In the history of Nuclear power plants only TWO yes TWO "Disasters" have happened. Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.

Chernobyl-
1-The soviets didnt have as many saftey precautions as america did.
2-They do not cause polution as the leftist junk of this immoral and unjust world says otherwise
3- It is the only one to have actually cause Death as the three mile island causeed no death at all!!!
Three mile island-
Nobody died
Hardly any if not no harful chemicals were emited in the atmosphere
Global Warming is greatly blown out of proportions
This incedant was a very very minor incedent that never affected anyone
Leftists blow this out of proportions.

Toxitalk- Ban the nuke? Ban the nuke? Are you KIDDING me?
Three mile island dont ring a bell and all of you comments dont make any sence.
What about fuel?
Raw materails? Everythings made of raw materials!
SUN BURNT!!!OF

The two accidents with nuclear power plants in history only ONE , yes ,ONE cause any deaths whatsoever wich was chernobyl wich had

Very lax security procautions!
And the other comment makes no sence at all and is totaly useless.
Go and hug a tree with your buddys in Honda Hybrids.

Besides Nuclear power is better than wind power or hydro. It just makes lots more power!!!

^ Why did you make 4 posts to say that? Even if you forgot to say something, you know there's a little "edit" button at the bottom right of any post of yours.
