::Edad De La Exploracion 1490 - 1900:: version 2.0

ARRRGHHHH!! I was playing as the Dutch and attempting to build the Naval Academy when the vicious line Scenarios\Exploration\text\PediaIcons.txt WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Naval_Academy appeared just like in post #98. Drat… Double Drat.

As an aside, I noticed that workers would not clear forests unless the Automate Clear Forest (Shift-F) was used, in other words I had to clear whole forests instead of just one or two squares. Of course it may not be the MOD causing this one.

hey everyone, first off this is NOT MY work, it is life's, i just posed a possible change. anyway, i havent had this problem, but if you do, just go into the napoleonic conquest folder and copy:

#WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Naval_Academy
art\wonder splash\military academy.pcx

and copy the folder into the exploration folder.
repeat this for all problems

Sorry guys I had a rough week and my band has been in the studio.

I will upload a new text patch and new bic as 2.1 soon. As for now i will address the problems with peoples unit INI crashes.

Ship of the Line and Nap Infantry are units included in your conquests folder for napoleonic! I did not include these in the download. Make sure your directories are correct. If you don't have conquests it won't work and if your conquests folders arn't correctly placed it won't work.

Your scenario should be in:

conquests/scenarios/..

Your napoleonic folder should be at its rightful place:

conquests/conquests

thats how its referenced.

Although my folders are in the right places as specified above, I still have trouble with the game crashing;

What works for me is finding the graphics files and copying them into the exploration folder. This is not a very elegant solution and is annoying and time consuming, and I don't think I've been able to fix all of the game-crash-causing-errors anyway (I'm sure I COULD if I spent a LONG time doing it, but I just don't have the patience to keep testing crash after crash to see if I've fixed an error) Is there some other easier fix?

Must be more to it as my original install of Conquests is as you describe, ie: location, etc.
I still get the crashes.
Of course I could do what King Coltrane suggets, in fact I will so I can keep playing my current game!
Hopefully your 2.1 release will catch most of the simple problems and then we can really test this baby out and let you know about game balance issues, etc.
Good luck with your band!

Cheers Seato.

hey lifeaquatic. i am new to this thread but i have been playing this scenario as the spanish for some time now. i like this scenario quite a bit and i think its quite close to history. keep up the good work.
however i saw in my game that the ottomans have catholic monarchy as their govt. do the muslims have a separate tech tree to follow or the same one as the europeans. i also noticed that the indians had to cavalry units or war elephants for that matter. i don't know if this was intentional but wanted to report just in case.

Yes, automate orders still work even if you don't have the prerequisite. Its a gigantic hole, which is why many mods have "don't use automate orders" in their instructions. Fortunately, the AI relies on regular orders and their availability in a scenario to determine whether or not it can perform actions, so you only have to worry about humans using those automate commands.

Wow that is just rediculous.

Well people so you know, forests are not meant to be cleared in this mod. The reason is that you get all of south america turned into a mined and irrigated plains and all north america as well. This is unrealistic. People did not have the ability at that time to clear that much space nor did they. Colonies were small and did not have huge effect on environment until into the industrial age.

Also i made forests have more shields and you cannot mine plains or grassland. Therefore you would be dumb to wipe out your source of shields. Your simply crippling your production ability when you do that. But do it if you like.

I'm not sure if I've missed the boat, here, but this is the first scenario I've tried to play other than ones I've made for myself. And, frankly, I'm at a loss. I followed your directions as specified within your first post in the thread, and still got the "Missing entry in text\Pediaicons.txt" message as the game was booting up, with regards to the Artist's Guild. As such, sorry, but I was hoping you, or anybody else more experienced than I, would tell me what I'd done incorrectly. Thanks.

hmmm strange, if there were a problem i should be getting the same error. Anyone else have this problem with the scenario?

Did you put the exploration bic and the exploration folder in the scenarios folder?

Well, take a look at the two images. Exploration displays the relevant files from C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios and Exploration2 shows the entire contents of C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\Exploration. Yes, they're replicated in both places, just as I was not totally certain how to manage them. Let me know what you think

hi, i have a request for future versions of your mod:
since i've a dial-up internet access, i would like to have the possibility to download only a patch with last changes and not the entire pack of dozens of megabytes.

also i would thank you for your work

Great scenario Lifeaquatic ;)

If you want, I could have a look at the FILE NOT FOUND's people are getting and make them work before you get a new version up. Believe you me, I've done a LOT of bug hunting and learned how everything works the hard way...

About the AI's stupidity: Try using the "Build Often" Flags & Victory Points. And the city limit is changed in the "world size" tab.

Gee thanks Paasky! That would be great! I changed the optimum cities on purpose, so that the AI would stop razing cities so much. Also as far as the flags I have all those on already (the ones i need).

Anyways let me know about the bugs.

1) Good step-by-step installation instructions are always good to have for the noobs (check my WWII Europe scenario's tips for noobs)

2) You shoud give the musics in a separate download. I for one never listen to civ's music as I've got 80h of music & winamp.

3) The musics in the bonus folder will not play in civ and are also most useless. I suggest that you create a separate exploration_music.ace or something and put all of the songs there. But there's a trick to it: Put .mp3's into "conquests\sounds\build\exploration" folder and then create a music.txt in the scenarios folder with a simple list of all music that will play. Check my pirates scenario's music.rar on how to do this ;)

Sorry to sound a bit harsh but these are things that you should take out of the .ace... They are just taking up space.

:scan: Now bug-hunting :scan:

OK, here's 2 files: to Lifeaquatic.txt & to Players.zip

I don't need to explain what to Lifeaquatic means, so I'll explain the to Players.zip: Extract the Pediaicons.txt into your "civ3\conquests\scenarios\exploration\text" folder & overwrite the old pediaicons. Then the game is (if installed correctly) bug-free!
