Here is how - althrough you can't create scenarios, you can edit game rules so that you can customize it to your liking.

Since, apparentlly, game rules are the same for computer and for human (ie what helps you helps them, too) this should NOT be considered "cheating" as such.

Given how bad job have they did, it should be considered "bug fixing".

Many things can be changed. You should most definitivelly look at the editor and its help - and expiriment.

So, for max pleasure I intend to create Fundamentalism goverment type and make it default, make sure that there are no such things as unhappines and corruption (just anoys me to micro-manage cities around those idiotic things), choose diety level, raging barbarians and 255*255 map... and play!

For extra fun, give settlers and similar units to barbarians - can we have barbarian cities, too?

For stupid behaviour of untis (like warrior defending city against tank winning the battler) cure is (I guess) at "Combat Experience Page".

Here you can change "base hit points" to make it more (un)realistic.

Also, logical incosistency that settlers cost 2 population points can found a city of pop 1 can be also rectified.

I have found that although it is a very different playing experience from civ2, this game is a lot of fun and the stats and units are all there for a reason. To say Firaxis did a bad job is simply to admit you haven't learned to play civ3 yet. I was sucking in my war with the zulus, until I learned the proper use of cannons, offshore bombardment, and cavalry charges against 1 hit point defenders.

The game is a blast, give it a chance.

I don't have a problem with this. I attribute it to suburban development :)

Play the game for a month before editing the stats on things. I mean seriously I think they've done a great job, and no one is informed enough to make smart decisions on balance at this stage.

It might take 6 months+++ to really decide what's balanced!!

I agree with Johnny_Vegas. Give it a chance. Treat it as a completely new game without the "III" after it's title and let it stand on it's own merits.:enlighten
