Egyption Successtion

It was a period of exploration and great scientific achievements. Throughout five hundred years the English expanded their borders by founding the city of Nottingham and they have almost completed its trade network. London is about to finish a great project, and the future of the English civilization seems very good.

1525 - Nothing important happened (Nih)

1500 - Lost a scout

1475 - Spearmen is built in Sussex (prod worker)

Our people is pleased with this first perk they get, and they will demand for more soon.

1150 - The core of the English civilization is now connected by roads
Nottingham is the only unconnected city, and our crew of workers is heading there looking for
another luxurie (grapes) to satisfy our people
bristrol has built a spearman (prod temple)

Summary
- in 4 turns the pyramids will be finished.
- in 9 turns mathematics will be discovered.
- there's an extra spearman in bristol. i would use it for the next settlement, and i suggest you build it next the incense source.
- it is essencial that you finish the trade network to bring grapes to our capital.
- the temples are my idea as i like to have a compact border, feel free to change those productions if it doesn't suit your play style.
- i don't believe we need a strong military force at that stage of the game, but that is just me.
- i have't even talked with the chinese, so nothing has changed diplomatically
- the warrior fortified out of our cities is there to protect our workes
- the barbarian/scout situation is really funny. I just kept going up and down and he kept following me. It's a pity we lost a scout for now, but the barb warrior isn't going anywhere either. When the spearman gets to Nottingham, take the warrior in there and go rescue our scout.

That's it. Good game Jaffa.

Ok i'm having some trouble attaching files. The message get stuck and when i click stop in my brawser the text is posted but the file isn't. I'll try one more time.

I'll try later since it's not working.
One of you guys could Pm me your email so i can try to pass the file.

Still no post.

Are you using IE? I heard somebody using an off-beat browser having problems.

You should simply be able to click browse, locate the file, double click the file.

NOTE: You must winzip the file. The .sav files are to large for the browser to accept.

If you really get stuck - email me the file. Only zipped!

Use my signature to e-mail me ;)

Any luck attaching that file Pggar?

When you double post you can delete the whole post. When you edit the post near the top of the screen you can click the box that says delete this file (on the left) and (on the right) click the delete now button. If we delete the non-game summary posts (like this one) then we'll save room in the thread.

I used to be able to delete my posts but now I can't...:crazyeyes

I'm having some trouble with my DSL connection, so I had to reconfigure my modem, and I have finally sent the game to jaffa. About deleting my posts, the site keeps saying I am not authorized to do that. Anyway, here's the file.

You're right, it's jaffa's turn.

About the delete post function, I posted a question in the site feedback, and TF said we are only allowed to edit our posts. So i can't delete those posts above.

The English throne is vacant! A mysterious stranger appears from out of the West, and takes the crown, much to the surprise of the legitimate heir. Surveying the surrounding terrain he observes, "My god that's a lot of jungle!"

(1) 1025BC Switched production in York and Sussex to settlers. Normally I like temples, but with this map I want to go and grab resources as fast as possible.

(2) 1000BC On further consideration, switched Bristol (with barracks) to archer, for probable forthcoming war with Chinese. I want those horses up near Shanghai! Dispatched spearman from Nottingham to deal with the Gepid conscript menacing our scout.

(3) 975BC Settler finished in Sussex. Dispatched towards horses.

(4) 950BC Pyramids completed in London :) Work started on Oracle (22 turns). The Chinese have no spare income -- they will not pay even 1 gold per turn for our technology.

(5) 925BC Nothing of significance happens.

(6) 900BC Settler finished in York, headed towards the absurdly productive river delta region up north. I think the incense can wait. London has grown to size 8, Oracle to be completed in 16 turns.

(7) 875BC Nothing.

(8) 850BC The Gepid tribesman who's been bothering our scout down on the southern promontory is finally dealt with by our spearman. We now understand the secrets of mathematics! Next is iron-working. The Chinese are backward and still have no money.

(9) 825BC The Chinese establish Nanking on the northern river delta. Bah. Our settler is diverted instead to the NW delta. The Chinese still don't know about the horses.

(10) 800BC A Seljuk tribesman is approaching London.

(11) 775BC Peace continues.

(12) 750BC Road to Nottingham is completed.

(13) 730BC

(14) 710BC

(15) 690BC Another settler form York to exploit the gold and wheat in the east of our lands. Wines bring much intoxication to all the English cities. The Chinese have iron working. We trade them mathematics for contact with many other civilizations (Germans, Russions, Indians, French). The Russians are the only Civ that are up with us in science.

(16) 670BC Iron working completed. Next up, map making.

(17) 650BC A Khazak tribesman approaches London.

(18) 630BC The Khazak infidel destroys one of our mines! An archer kills him.

(19) 610BC I hate when I try and click the Diplomacy button and the mouse slips and I get shunted to the next turn :( 25 gold from an Avar (?) encampment. Trading technologies for money and to develop good relations. The French must be in a really bad position -- they have no money and no technology at all. Hastings founded.

(20) 590BC Canterbury founded. Coventry founded to claim the horses near Shanghai.

Things to do:

Send some units west to wipe out the annoying barbarian tribes.

Build roads to connect our outlying cities.

Develop culture in our cities. We definitely should rush-build a temple in Coventry.

War with China.

Find some iron!

Sorry for the confusing post. Looked at wrong file.

We have a good shot for Oracle also? I haven't seen Oracle and Pyramids in a long time.

Forget map making and switch to Literature. We may also get the Great Library. This could turn into a 20000 point city game!

We are ahead of EVERYONE we know in science and # of cities. Mostly veteran troops due to my barracks.

My only issue - Get those scouts exploring! Still a lot of unknown territory.

Since Josiah said he'd be gone a couple days I took my 20 turns. I am now officially patched.:)

The Oracle was built in 570 BC. After that not much of anything important hapened! We learned how to make maps in 410 BC and thereupon traded maps with the Germans, French and Indians. (No one had tech to trade us!) I built a colony on the incense in 310 BC. A temple was erected in Nottingham.

Many barbarian tribes were dispersed: the Khazaks, Phoenicians and Bulgars paid us gold; the Gepid tribe taught us polytheism. Our scout was saved.

Four cities were founded: Berwick, Newcastle, Rochester and Essex. There are more settlers to found more cities! I also built 2 catapults in ondon since there didn't seem much else for them to do at the time!

The biggest project of this period was begun and is still in progress: The Jungle Highway towards our northern cities. It has two branches with 4 workers on each spur...

lkendter: you are up! We have a descision coming up soon. Should we remain in despotism and attck China or should we sit on our three luxuries and become a peaceful republic? I think it's about time we also hit the high seas...

EDIT: Saved game deleted to conserve server space!

Well the game seems to be moving along nicely. Its all ways a bonus to here that you are the most tech advanced people. I'm going to take my 2nd turn after lkendter. Sorry Pggar.
After this round I suggest that we move down to 15 turns a round. Sound ok?
Game wise I think we should ignore the chinese untill we can pound them in just a few turns. Once we have a nice sized army we can make them cry

15 turns/round sounds good to me.

re deleting posts: I can't delete anymore either! Too bad, it saved space and made the thread better.:(

That's fine by me.

The son of Lee arrives.

I see I play much different. I hate colonies. No border locks from Colonies, and the computer can still build cities by them. I have only built ONE colony in all of my solo games.

Hastings rush builds a temple. Essex switched to temple. Berwick switches to temple, to close to China. Cantebury rush builds temple.

170 BC - Whip out temple for Conventry. Tribe gives up a Warrior - ZZZZZZzzzzzzz. Lost a scout to a barbarian horseman :(

150 BC - York is back to my intentions - A settle / worker factory. A worker is started. Trade territory maps with Russia. Build the hill town of Warwick - This will lock up the future resources from that area. Cantebury rushes barracks.

130 BC - Conventy whips out a barracks. A worker starts improving by Bristol.

110 BC - A worker starts new improvements by London. A worker starts improvements by York. $25 for a Barbarian camp destroyed, which helps offset our deficit spending. Automate a road to Warwick. Oxford formed near China, and starts a temple.

10 BC - Our road net is finnaly through the jungle. Cantebury in sight. This turns deficit is covered by Russia - Trade territory map for territory map + $10.

10 AD - Liverpool formed. Not a great spot, but I want cities near our capital.

50 AD - I establish embassies with all of the known civs.

70 AD - $50 from a tribe. Automate a worker to build a road from Hastings to Liverpool, so that both of them will be on our road net.

110 AD - Oxford whips out a temple.

150 AD - I automate a worker building a road toward our new southern city. Kill barbarian group for $25

170 AD - Finnally. Canterbury joins the road net.

190 AD - The Colossus is built :) Our golden age begins. Bristol begins the Great Lighthouse.

210 AD - Dover is formed - landbridge city - locks the computer walking units down toward another large area of land. The all but locks us into a lone ivory below Dover.

Summary -
1 - When the cities connect to our network, see if we can get rid of the entertainment in those cities.

2 - Cantebury has decent production. Keep building spearman, to increase our defense near China. Move the new ones to the other near China cities.

3 - The worker by Sussex should be used to build a road net to Essex.

4 - You get to place a new city. Spearman one space ahead of settler by mistake. Decisions - Head toward Dover and get the Ivory? City by the dye colony with low corruption? My prefence is the dye colony, and that is why the worker is clearing the jungle there.

5 - Keep York in settler / worker mode.

6 - Monarchy will be finished research just before the Great Library finished. Start the hanging gardens. London could easily be a 20000 culture city! 18 culture a turn already, soon to be 24.

7 - We may be getting close to culture flipping some Chinesse cities.

8 - Plenty of barracks. Concentrate on veteran troops.

9 - Concentrate the workers near London and our high production cities.

On the question of peacefull game or attack China. I vote peaceful game. We have a hugh tech lead, off the scale with culture (GL just a handlefull of turns away). We have one MAJOR weakness - no iron. I would avoid a war unless forced. Archers just aren't that great of attack units.

edit - Deleted old game save.

Re colonies: I built one and it was the first I built since my first game. I agree they are of limited use but since that area didn't look too good for a city and there's no other civ nearby that a colony was a good idea. I think part of the fun in playing these games lies in the fact that we all play differently!:)

Since we're pounding out the wonders let's not forget the lighthouse. After all, we are the English...

I see Pggar is on-line and he's up after Josiah. Looks like we might get alot played today!:goodjob:

RE Re colonies: I think that was the first (maybe second) time I've built a colony too. I only did that because it was going to take too long for the borders to grow in the direction of the die, and because a city in that place was not an issue at that time (too many jungle tiles).
