eldar08: Gridlocked!

Maybe by now, CommandoBob, you've realised that your(?) preference setting 'don't animate friend moves' has caused some confusion. At least with me. But it's alright, it didn't affect the game or anything.
I'm trying to remember why I did that. I like to see the movement of other units during the IBT; it can be helpful.

Argh, I can't remember the exact situation, but I was trying to slow down the speed of unit moves. They were going so fast I could not keep track of them. Zip, zip, zip and no time to absorb where they were at on the map. Looks like I fixed the wrong problem.

Not sure if it's CB's setting - the only animation I ever keep on is battle animations. So it's probably inherited from my original game settings!

Now if you want to really see things fly, press Caps Lock. IMO it's probably essential if you're playing at SID and you've just landed a large invasion force... would probably turn off all animations then myself!!

Lurker:

I use the control key in my Sid games when large numbers are moving. As long as it is held down the units fly and you just let up when you want to follow the action.

Roster:
Optional - just played
MooseWarrior - UP!
CommandoBob - on deck
Othniel - long term skip
Rodent - long term skip
eldar (de-militarized; lurking)
Tad_Empire_O_o - long term skip

Oh, I'm up. I thought someone else was.:p I'll get to work on this soon.

Do you accept idiots? If so, I would like to apply for a position in the roster. I am not blond, :old: , can a :deadhorse: , and can count above 20 when nekid. It seems one SG is not enough. :crazyeye:

Idiots welcome!

Roster:
Optional - just played
MooseWarrior - UP!
Admiral Kutzov - on deck
CommandoBob - warming up
Othniel - long term skip
Rodent - long term skip
eldar (de-militarized; lurking)
Tad_Empire_O_o - long term skip

I'd pipe the Admiral aboard, but I can't find my pipe. I do have a xylophone if that would do?

Sorry guys, I'm gonna have to drop outta this, or be put on long-term skip, because my computer that can run civ3 got trashed by a virus, and I can't get it fixed anytime soon.

Sorry for being so unreliable and such.

I just spent the last hour or so pondering this save. I then came back here and re-read. Seems we're going to ship chain (something I've never tried in either a solo or SG).

I need some strategic goals. #1 seems to be getting to the other side of the pond. what's number 2? I'm thinking of dropping research to zero and trying to steal some techs after I trade around GP when it finishes next turn. this may/probably/will result in a phony war at some point. any objections?

Or shall I lay low and burn to astro?

I think we were basically beelining to Military Tradition. We can get across the pond without risking troops.
I don't expect too much from trading Gunpowder, but trading it could still be useful. Tomorrow I have a bit more time to look into this.

I was thinking that we would lay low until we got better boats/better seafaring skills.

We can shipchain right now, but we will lose empty baots as we do this. We are safe in coastal waters, but not in the sea. Between us and Babylon are only coastal and sea tiles, no ocean tiles. So we only need Astronomy to survive the IBT (IIRC).

I think that Astronomy lets us build Galleons, which can carry more than Galleys. Galleys will do to start with.

I'm not in favor of jumping over the pond right now because our supply line is weak and will break on the IBTs. Once we can overcome that little fact, I'm ready to bring bad news to Babylon.

Just letting you know, I am back from Exams.

Astro begets caravels (carrying capacity of 3). Need Navigation for galleons. I remember reading something about barely civilized barbarians whacking the world. I will therefore focus on tech trading, espionage stealing. I searched but did not find the Big Bulb, therefore we should have no AI paying us unwelcome visits. Being :old:, I consider ship chaining up there with puppy mills (exploitive). Also, having never tried it, I'm too lazy to learn. Hopefully more later.

Feeling my age, but I don't let that stop me. GP finishes next turn so I hit enter to get into the game.

IT - we learn GP. Start chemistry and drop research to zero.

Turn 1, 660AD. Establish embassies with Zulu and Japan. Neither has much of signifigance in their capitals. Of note, Shaka has iron and horses connected; Toku has only horses connected.

Toku wants GP and 80g for Mono. Shaka will give Mono, Lit, and 2g for GP. I take the Shaka deal.

Trade GP and 14 gpt to Toku for Theo.

Alex has a monopolopy on Education. eff him. Start researching education at 80%, -1 gpt, turns.

Igor slaps me upside the head, mutters something about MM, I decide to let that go for the next better player.

Rachel Rae is getting wider on the bottom. No more fantasies. Minor depressions. She looks like hell. Sin City Nasty and Sweet Young Thing are built.

IT - blah blah woof woof no riots.

670 - Carthage switches from market to settler. Dual <illegilble> Slingshot starts a harbor.

IT - Whomp gets hair implants.

680 - trade Shaka 14 gpt for Education. Methinks we can now read. Eldar's Pastie's founded. start Astro at 70% + 25 gpt.

IT - Greeks are building Copernicus

690 - Old Guy's Fantasy founded.

700 - poor note taking

710 - drunk

720 - ditto

730 - big boobs founded. drop science to 10% (astro in 1)

740 - illegible

IT - Nineveh finishes SunTzu's

750 - stop

suggest we get Zulu and Greeks at war. Hit Toku and take spices. Need more combat settlers. Need MM. Musket builds are for upgrading to infantry.

lurker's comment: Literature's worthless, you can't build Libraries. You should have taken Tokugawa's deal.

Excuse me?

Shaka is giving us gold. Tokugawa is Demanding 80 gold. Can't see why we should have taken Toku's deal
