Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

It means this was taken off one of those websites that gives some teaser information, and then puts the rest either on a second page or below an advertisement which cuts the article essentially in half. You see it a lot on blogs.

Ah, I see.. I never use/brows blogs, so...

Exciting news from the official elder scrolls website, looks like we are getting gameplay footage today :)

  • Not every NPC will have a complete set of dialogue like in Oblivion. It’ll be more like in Fallout 3, where only the ‘important’ NPC’s have anything substantial to say.

  • Dialog of non-important characters was really simple in Oblivion already. How can you go down from that?

I can't find any reason from your list why this would be better than Oblivion which IMO was vastly overrated game. The problem with Oblivion was that while there were tons of thing to do, very little of it was interesting at all. The sandbox world of the game was dull and lifeless. On the other hand, there is no reason why this couldn't be better, although simpler dialog isn't a good sign.

Well I just watched the new trailer and, well, seems like it might make everybody upgrade their computers like Oblivion did. I was hoping by 2012 I'd have had a reason to change my computer and upgrade to Windows 7 to have more than DirectX 9 (still on XP here), but my good old 4 years old PC can still run new games on max settings apparently and refuses to become ineffective, hehe.

It haz dwagons!

Looks good, very similar to Oblivion but thats absolutely fine by me, it's never been about the graphics for me, i think i saw a robed character walking through a village there as well which hopefully means strong mages are possible (robe and staff)

I think i'l be more interested in hearing how the game works and what gameplay possiblities there are as more info comes out, also, is it me or does the music sound a little tired and re-used? i loved the music in both Morrowind and Oblivion, but i don't know, this one sounds a bit, corny :p

*zips up flame-proof anorak and hood* :)

I dunno everyone was astonished by the theme music when it just came out, so... Maybe it's because you hear Oblivionesque music at the end? It also didn't sound as good with all the sound effects and stuff. :dunno:

you're right, i think hearing the theme tune about a hundred times one after the other the first time i heard it may have affected my opinion, i'm really curious to hear the atmospheric music in the game too, like when you are just roaming the countryside as there was in Oblivion.

edit* did you see the people chopping wood? i think they may have jobs now, cool stuff.

They kinda did have jobs before too, just not something "active" like chopping wood.

There is an opportunity to see an NPC face up close in this trailer when the dovahkiin is finishing him off or something...

1) I would really like it if they removed the Luck attribute.
2) I would really like the rate in which skills increase to be balanced. I never realized it, but it is a huge difference in how fast Alteration increases when compared to Restoration.
3) In the trailer, cool spell effects. Looks like there is an area effect spell for fire damage.
4) Also looks like there will be cool assassinate/sneak attack moves (slitting the guys neck from behind).
5) Was that a staff being dual wielded w/ something else?

Actually I just noticed, the theme music have Oblivion all over it, not just the end...

Oh, raising that damn restoration was a pain! I also don't think Luck is necessary. It's just this one forced attribute that just as well could not be. For example I ended up using it a lot in Fallout 3, new Vegas, but would rather not have to...

The idea of Luck increasing as you level up is odd to me. And it doesn't really fit into my concept of RPG's, I prefer the idea of creating your own destiny rather than being governed in part by chance.

I like the idea of not being just an adventurer and perhaps just doing a simple job like other villagers.

1. I never knew what it was for, never really cared either.
2. No idea.
3. One of the goals they said in an interview was to add variety and improve the spell effects which is badly needed.
4. Hopefully there will indeed be some more choice/moves :)
5. As said in an earlier interview, duel wielding is now possible, and you can decide what goes into what hand (including magic).

As for the music, its the same guy in charge who did the music for Morrowind and Oblivion and in an interview it was clear he was sticking to the Elder Scrolls musical theme but with a strong Nordic influence and theme for Skyrim.

I remember reading the manuals for both morrowind and oblivion years ago and seeing a small message from the developers to the player on the first page of each.

It went along the lines of, "this is how much we care about the game, this is how much of our time and effort we have put in, please take your time to enjoy it, explore, adventure and savour, you are free to roam and free to discover the world for yourself."

It left me thinking, "wow, its not often you feel such pride coming through from a developer about their work" and as a result i could barely wait to get home to play it.

To my pleasant surprise this post here from todd howard, entitled "Welcome Back Elder Scrolls": http://www.elderscrolls.com/community/welcome-back-elder-scrolls/ seems to be very similar to those original welcome messages in the manuals of the previous games, a thoughtful touch which i feel is unique to the elder scrolls series and something i really do appreciate. :goodjob:

I view luck as luck, not destiny. Like your enemy accidentally slips, or you fall from a horse. That kind of thing.

Also crits :D

Luck influenced the quality of loot and it also applied a +2 bonus to your skills for every 5 luck above 50

"So much had changed that we decided to call the engine and editor by a new name, the Creation Engine and the Creation Kit."

Hmm... I imagine that doesn't inspire confidence into skeptics that doubt the engine is new...
