Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

Damn... I'm so excited, I started to make Tamriel map for civ5. Though I'm not sure how to play it afterwards... Map maker is too complicated for me.

EDIT: Hey, that's my 1,000 post!? Lame...

Skyrim is a lame name though. Rimming the sky.

My hypothesis is that it was named by people moving out of the south (Cyrodil probably) and to them it would have been the edge of the world where the land the sky met.

The humans (except Redguards) of the continent actually all descend from a proto-Nord race that came to the continent from another (Atmora). Modern Nords are the closest modern race to the ancestral proto-Nords, just as the Altmer (high elves) are the closest thing to the original elves (Aldmer).

The proto-Nords came conquering and drove out the indigenous tribes of elves and beast folk. From the Nords come the Imperials and the Bretons. The Nords are also famous for having been at war with the Dunmer and Dwemer...

(The Redguard have no shared origin w/ the Nords, Bretons or Imperials however because the Redguard come from another continent called Yokuda, which was destroyed in a nuclear explosion as it so happens, lol)

So I wouldn't really try to explain why the province is called Skyrim, I think it just has something to do with the mountain peaks being so close to the edge of the sky...

Nuclear explosion!?!?!? WTH!?

Also does anyone have an idea of what color/continent type scheme I should use for different provinces? I mean the continent types in map creator. Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe... So far I only decided to make Cyrodiil European, Elsweyr and Hammerfell African...

Anyone? I only ever played Oblivion and I can only go so far with the maps I googled.

I'm not familiar with the map editor color/conintent types you speak of, so I can't be much help there.

But I know from lurking the 'lore' section of the official forums, that it is a futile effort to try and make connections between in-game races and real world counterparts.

There are glaring similarities in a few races (Nords, lol), but I've seen lots of warnings to avoid equating Imperials to Rome for instance or Redguards to the Middle East.

Yeah I'm not even trying to do that lol. I'm just trying to find the right style for the map/land itself, not culture and races. :)

What one feature of Skyrim excites you guys the most? i know it may not be a popular choice but for me it was the radiant story, i really like the idea of side quests that make themselves, will hopefully add a lot of replayability to the game once the main story is over.

The mountain peaks is exactly what I meant and it can work from the other direction too.

I know, I was agreeing with you :) It's a fairly simple and self-evident deduction IMO.

As for what I'm looking forward to the most... the whole sandbox genre of games are my favorite, so a whole new world to explore and story to follow is what excites me. And the expansion of knowledge concerning the in-game lore is always fascinating :)

Aye good ones, and of course having an entire group of people dedicated to just dragons for two years is pretty badass :D those things must be amazing in the amount of stuff they can do.

I still don't get one thing about leveling up. I know you get an automatic boost to your health and additional boost to health, magicka or stamina by your choice and you get to pick a perk, but what about strength, dexterity, endurance etc.? I never read anything about that.

Also I read that you can also customize your body features in character creation. That's nice! :groucho:

I wonder when we will get to see some gameplay, would love to see how the two hand fighting system works for both weapons and magic, and also that "browser UI" that i still feel doubtful of, i'd like to be proved wrong on that, i hope it works well.

If they don't say anything about it, it's probably still the same.

This was the image at the top of the page before they changed it:

It looks like after our first steps into the uncanny valley with Oblivion we're now going to explore it in all it's creepyness.

OK, I think I get it now. Googled a bit about what is uncanny valley... Kept seeing it everywhere lately, damn.

I don't know, I get the idea and all, but I can't imagine applying it to a video game. There is a mechanical cat at my mother's place and it creeps the hell out of me and some Japanese lifelike little girl robot would freak me out even more, but video games?

The graphics do look very Oblivionesque i must admit, not a problem for me as i feel the graphics were already good enough, in fact it may be good news as more of their time will probably have been spent on better gameplay and fun new stuff.

I wonder if this time cities will be out in the open and part of the main map without the walls, if its being made with the Xbox in mind can the Xbox handle that?

While nice and I'll be fine with them, I'm not a huge fan of the oblivion-esque graphics. I find them to be a bit too... bubbly/rounded/not sharp enough. FEAR, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro 2033 all have nice, sharp graphics that look sooooo much better.
