Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

Not to bash on Metro 2033 again but I thought the character models looked kind of crap. Not saying Oblivion ones are much better though. Your nice and sharp graphics of Metro 2033 and FEAR and STALKER, yeah I can see that in the games, compare advantageously to Oblivion, but yeah, the human character models of Metro 2033 were pretty derp.

Eyes are perfectly fixable, and I never looked closely enough to see that heh. Oblivion characters were kind of derp looking too sometimes. Just weird, and creepy.

And tended to talk to themselves.

Well that is perfectly normal, and hardly unique to the game (I've seen lots of NPCs talk to themselves in games, especially when scripted to do so and I wander off to explore the area).

What I don't understand is when multiple characters say exactly the same thing in different voices, as heard in Fallout 3 for instance.

What I mean is... Let's say you walk by a lady and she comments on your robot dog "Is that a robot dog? I sure hope you control that thing!" (or something like that)... Well that means a writer went ahead and wrote that line. The problem comes when multiple characters say the exact same line, so you'll hear the same exact words coming out of ladies, gentlemen, and various voice actors.

If you're going to bother hiring many voice actors, I think you should bother writing them different lines. At the very least, if they're all gonna comment on the robot dog, could they use slightly different words for it? It's just jarring to hear a little girl say exactly the same words as the old man in the next hut, down to the intonation.

That was a comment about the 8 voice actors in the game, not a bug :p

Is there any new news about Skyrim? It's been at least two weeks since last info bits.

Nothing new that i know of, lots of polls on the official forums, should there be werehamsters? that kind of stuff :D but nothing much since game informer, still any day now i'm sure a few screen shots will pop up, or even some gameplay who knows :)

  • ‘Magnetism’ – a slight ‘pulling’ effect to your attacks towards enemies, in order to prevent killing friends.
  • Unique, enchanted weapons will have “hidden” effects. You won’t know what those are until you use the weapon.
  • You can’t block with a one-handed sword, and a spell in your off-hand. Two-handed blades or sword and shield combos can use block.
  • The Spell Shield effect is making a return.
  • Taverns and Inns will play a large role in the game. You will be able to listen in on people’s conversations, start quests, acquire information, and more.
  • Breaking and entering to find out more about people- “Because of the open world set up you can even progress by snooping around – following people, looking out for strange behaviour and even some light breaking and entering”.
  • Quest givers can give you more or less information regarding quest depending on their disposition towards you.
    More after the break
  • One dungeon is called ‘Bleak Falls Barrow’, and it is inhabited by the Draugr (the undead Nord warriors we first met in Bloodmoon). As you proceed through the dungeon, you’ll eventually encounter a ‘ghostly dragon priest’, and eventually the dungeon boss, a giant ‘Frostbite Spider’. It is said the dungeon is ‘terryfing’.
  • The quest to Bleak Falls Barrow is given to you by a shopkeeper called Lucan, whose priceless Draconic family heirloom (a golden claw) was stolen recently.
  • Several new spell effects, including “Ice Trap” (only triggered when an enemy walks over it), “Circle of Protection” (push the enemies in your vicinity away), “Fury” (make enemies fight each other), and more.
  • One of the execution moves involves “plunging your sword into your enemy’s chest”, coupled with gurgling death noises. HELL YEAH!
  • The ‘free-form’ activities you can perform include cooking, woodcutting, mining and smithing.
  • A Dragon Shout that slows down time (Bullet Time).
  • Some Dragon Shouts are found in dungeons.
  • There’s a city called Riverwood. It is described as ‘A smattering of timber buildings, including a sawmill’.
  • Radiant Story is in part inspired by the random encounters in Fallout 3.
  • It is possible to raise all skills to 100 but not possible to get all perks.
  • The death of the King of Skyrim has sparked a civil war in the country.
  • Dragon encounters aren’t scripted. If one comes across a town in its travels, it might decide to attack it without warning. This may or may not involve setting it ablaze. This might just be bullsh*t PR, hopefully not.
  • Every big settlement is unique. The city of Markarth Side, for example, is set into “dramatic stone cliffs, with buildings teetering on the end of sheer drops.”
  • Haarfingar is said to be home to the largest trading port in Skyrim.
  • The game apparently includes ‘meteorogical effects’: clouds gathering around mountaintops, etcetera.
  • The glorious return of the Dwemer ruins is once again confirmed.
  • One of the cities in Skyrim will apparently be heavily inspired by the Dunmer (Dark Elves), and may even be a full-fledged Dunmer settlement.
  • They’re trying to go back to the “eccentricity” of Vvardenfell. Every Nord faction will have their own customs, colors, and so on.
  • The economy of the game is better developed than in Oblivion. If you destroy a city’s means of income (for instance, their crops) they’ll need to buy crops from another nearby city, and prices in the city will go up.
  • Archers can ‘hold their breath’ while aiming. This consumes stamina, but gives the archer a better chance of hitting the enemy.
  • A wounded dragon has a chance of crashing into the ground.
  • You can cut dialogue short by walking away from the NPC.
  • Dragon Shouts are assigned to the R3-button on the PS3 gamepad.
  • Not every NPC will have a complete set of dialogue like in Oblivion. It’ll be more like in Fallout 3, where only the ‘important’ NPC’s have anything substantial to say.
  • Quests can influence each other. Quest A may be changed for you because you completed Quest B beforehand.
  • Quest givers now give more detailed instructions, in a style that’s apparently akin to Morrowind. They might even escort you to the road, to show you where to go.
  • The game has 120 unique dungeons, worked on by 8 designers. (Might not be truly unique)
  • A trailer “may or may not be around a month away”. GDC probably.

:yumyum:

That's odd, since you could block with a 1 handed weapon in Oblivion, provided your offhand had no shield in it.

I wonder if I can do a Mordhau

They’re trying to go back to the “eccentricity” of Vvardenfell. Every Nord faction will have their own customs, colors, and so on.

I hope that means that the overall factions will be better than Oblivion. Seriously, four factions, only two of them interesting (Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood), both designed for stealth characters. My hope for factions is how they where in Morrowind, with multiple factions for combat, magic, stealth, with some being a combination of skill sets. Knowing that Skyrim is in civil war will mean that many factions will be a prince or warlord claiming territory, but I hope that they are diverse and compelling (i.e. Faction A: Combat based, led by Warlord A, Faction B: Magic based led by Warlord B, Faction C: Stealth based, led by Warlord C, Faction D: Combat based, led by Prince A. All faction seek end civil war control all of Skyrim).

Though the list is impressive, I am skeptical about advanced economies and radiant AI being as good as described. I hope I am wrong about being wary on that claim.

Woodcutting and cooking? That'll be interesting!

I wish there were some crafting involved in ES:V. It would be awesome to go into the woods and tear off a branch from a tree and use it as a club or craft it into arrows, bows, spears, etc.

It means this was taken off one of those websites that gives some teaser information, and then puts the rest either on a second page or below an advertisement which cuts the article essentially in half. You see it a lot on blogs.
