Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

5 attributes and 3 skills less than Oblivion...

But 250+ perks to individualize characters! Sounds good to me.

I am really nervous about them removing the eight stats and even more skills. It sounds like it could be awesome, though if it becomes a Steam exclusive on PC, I will be really, really angry.

The official forum has been going nuts over the past day or so over this. People are counting their chickens before they hatch.

The only thing that I'm wondering is about character abilities at level 0. Are all characters going to have equal jump heights, run speeds, magicka/health/stamina, encumbrance, etc.

Because those things were previously governed by speed, athletics, acrobatics, intelligence, endurance, agility, etc. All of the variables previously used to come up with those stats won't be included in Skyrim.

All end-game characters are going to be truly unique though. We won't see characters that all get near 100 attributes/skills. In Oblivion, my characters all ended up being about the same as far as the numbers go. But with only being able to pick 50 out of 280+ perks, we'll see some great individuality.

But I kind of like the tabula rasa aspect of the level 0 characters. I dunno, we seriously need to wait for E3 before anyone starts freaking out about this stuff.

I don't understand the removal of athletics and acrobatics. It was good to have your character get better after running and jumping for a long time.

I played so many characters in Morrowind that I had one character devoted to jumping around and hitting things with his fists a lot, but I'm fairly positive that's not a normal concept. :)

I agree that if your thing is to RP a guy that jumps higher than everyone else, you're probably S.O.L.

The big question is how jumping and running speed will be handled. Will everyone be the same? Will it be based on race? Will there be a perk for it, and what skill will that perk fall under?

A lot of questions that people are really beating to death. Just gotta wait and see.

Perk happy sounds like D&D 3.5. Take it or leave it I guess.

I'd be impressed if the they improve the dialogue menus so you don't have to scroll and read every response. Something like a more intuitive/emotive way to select a response based on a mood/purpose and the resulting text is then just generated for your literary pleasure.

Reading 4 snarky responses to get to the "I want you to repair my armor" response is kind of un-fun.

How many people invested in acrobatics and athletics when creating their character? ... Yeah. Basically it was all the same sort of upwards slope for every character.

Since they improved just by running around there was absolutely no point in putting points into them during character creation.

Yeah especially with skill system. If it was "assign points on level up" xp system, it would have made more sense to have it.

IMO the need to repair equipment is an unfun feature itself. It's kind of Bethesdas trademark so I guess there isn't much hope they would remove it?

I like that they referred to Smithing as one of three crafting skills. So maybe we might be able to do something besides repair stuff, and make our own items from raw materials.

(alchemy is the "stealth" crafting skill, and enchantment is the magic crafting skill)

I like the idea of repairing battered equipment. It's part of what makes me think the world is a living environment, not just the latest beat-em-up.

Besides if you don't like it, someone will have a mod to take it out. Had to get one in Fallout 3 that reduced to iirc about 75% slower (there were a few options in the mod) how fast items degraded since it was rather ridiculously fast in that game. I like some wear and tear though.

For the love of Talos, I hope they make the save/load menu system better. Don't know about PC, but the console menu is truly FUBAR. I want ways to sort by character.

The journal also needs an overhaul.

Well, for Oblivion on the PC, you could always hit the console key and type "save [name]". That's what I did, at least.

Watching the trailer, I saw this:

I thought it was some sort of hidden statue or giant on the mountain side. But I presented it to the official forums and they all poo-pooed it. I thought it was a weird case of pareidolia.

Can you see how much I anticipate the game? lol, I'm seeing things. Don't you see it too though?
