this isnt the strongest UU, it is your favorite and many people(me included) hate the Prats because the ruin the game. i have warlords so the redcoats are now balanced and i like them, but in vanilla i think the are just as overpowered

You're much nobler than me. I like Praets and Redcoats (especially the latter) for just that reason. Take that evil AI

The prat is obviously the best UU. It is an early UU, has an extremely long usefull life and it has +2 strength points!
I can't believe the Quecha has been eliminated already and I can't believe there are so many people that rate the fast worker so highly
Also the skirmisher has gone too?
I take it most of you voters play on monarch level and below?

I don't know if this is the case, but UU like Praets and quechas (although overpowered) give the human player a real shot on extremely tough difficulty levels. Warfare is a real crutch for the AI and one of the few areas the player can gain ground on emperor +. I can see why many people would hate the praet in multiplayer or find it really boring to use on lower levels, but the unit is far from overpowered if you are playing against AIs that get massive bonuses. Any way, I voted for the UU I though to be the best (not my favorites). I guess now I will vote for my favorites (since all the good ones have been killed off).

- Numidian Cavalry - I am not convinced. The unit is awful. Its almost worse than a regular horse archer (and no I do not use them for city attack).

- Fast worker - Uhhh its a worker.

For a second there I thought that the Cho Ko Nu was gonna take it but then some of the last ones that voted (including me) voted against them and brought them to the middle of the pack. But now there are 4 UUs in trouble. - The Carthagian Numidian Cavalry who only needs one negative vote for elimination, the Korean Hwatch'a, English Redcoat and Indian fast worker that only need 2 votes to be eliminated!
Imagine! Praetorians only ended up in 10th place

I dont think the cho ko nu is bad but I dont like crossbowmen. I know the 50% melee is great and beats Macemen and the colletral damage is also devastating. Even though Mao and Qin are protective and stuff and the cho ko nu gets extra first strikes and everything I still think all of the units (except maybe the hwatcha) are better than cho ko nu! ...and it might have something to do with it that I like berserkers and I want them in front of cho ko nus! They serve the same purpose as crossbowmen and nothing more! To counter macemen! While the berserker can attack from sea and across river and gets a 10% city attack! And the numidian cavalry can beat axeman (I know normal horse archers can but..its a name on the list), swordsman and maceman and get a 10% extra withdraw chance.

In 10th place were the extremely overpowered Roman Praetorians

The Praetorians were a special force of bodyguards used by Roman Emperors, according to wikipedia. But the Praetorians were amongst the most skilled warriors in ancient history. The guards were founded by the first emperor of Rome, Augustus.

The word "praetor" means general - or should I say "praetorium". They were both mounted and melee, but not only melee like in Civ IV. Each legion consisted of 500 men but was increased to 1000 men later. They were extremely organized and disciplined soilders (like Civ IV players should know already)
One praetorian was an emperor of Rome, and that was Titus who ruled from 79 to 81 AD.

The last emperor to command the praetorians was Maxentius of the Western Roman empire, but Constantine I of the Eastern Roman empire disbanded the Praetorians.

In 9th place were the Macemen replacing Samurai of Japan.

The Japanese word samurai is derived from the verd "saburau", which means "to serve" - because a samurai is a servant of his lord.

Originally, samurai were mounted, archery and melee mercenaries in service of the emperor or a noble, but they slowly gathered power and established the first samurai-dominated government - the Kamakura Shogunate. In stead of ruling from Kyoto, the Shogunate was in Kamakura (about 50 km southwest of Tokyo). But then..something called was interrupts everything!

Various samurai clans were struggling for power over the Kamakura and Ashikaga Shogunates (which was a feudal military dictatorship ruled by the shoguns of the Ashikaga family). Issues of inheritance caused family infighting between the two shogunates of Japan. This ended with the victory of the Ashikaga shogunate but that's another story. Back to the samurai.

They were great warriors and defended Japan well. As an example they defeated the Mongol invasions while outnumbered 1 to 4. Samurai also served as attackers. In the end of the 15th century the current shogun of Japan decided to invade the powerful China and sent to Korea an army of about 160.000 samurai and easily defeated the unorganized Korean army.

Later, on the Tokugawa era, samurai increasingly became bureaucrats and administrators rather than warriors. With no warfare for a long time they lost their military function becoming more of a symbolic power rather than a militaristic power.

The last showing of the original samurai was in 1877, during the Satsuma rebellion.

And that's it! I hope to find something about the Numidian cavalry. But I still doubt it
