Embassies in the demogame

We have discovered writing and with that comes embassies. We are currently planning on attacking the aztecs, should we build an embassy there to investigate their cities? Should we build other embassies in the cultures that sorround our cities (aztecs, americans and japanese)?
Please discuss. This is a binding discussion, what ever is agreed on will be in the t/c instructions for the next session.

I think it would be a good idea to choose one of our other neighbors, either the Japanese or the English (I think they are just to the east), and sign a treaty with them to fight the Aztecs. Otherwise, we will end up fighting a war on multiple fronts as the domino effect begins.

Build one in Japan. They are the closest to Azteca, and its better if we get their support before Monty does.

The only problem with signing Japan on as an ally is that they may take some of the Aztec lands, and grow stronger. We will need to conquer the Japanese next to secure our position. The English will be lucky to get any troops to Azteca before we have nearly eliminated them. I say we war to the West and expand peacefully to the east and seal the land bridge.

Perhaps an embassy would be advisable in Tenochtitlan. It would be an excellent way to scout Aztec defenses and resources

I advise a Japanese, Indian, and Aztec embassy.

Japanese: based on the proximity and potential this civ has, this is a must build.
Indian: thier strength and potential to be a strong trading partner make this another must build embassy.
Aztec: to scout out aztecan lands before we conquer them, this is essential, and will help the war effort greatly.

I would suggest building an embassy in the Aztecs. With the embassy, We can check to see if the Aztecs has access to any Iron. This would be esential to the war effort since if they have no access to iron, then All there defenders would be Jag Warriors thus makes our war effort much eazyer.

I advise against building any embassies at this point in time, as I believe the money would be better used to continue with warrior upgrades.
Additionally, I fiercely oppose signing any alliances for our war against the Aztecs. We do not need help and the Aztecs are dirt poor, so will be unlikely to be able to afford an alliance against a civ of our strength. There is also no good reason to commit ourselves to a 20 turn war, since it is not inconceivable that we could have the Aztecs pruned back as far as we want before that time, and we should leave ourselves the option of making them sign a rather biased peace treaty at swordpoint then and there, as opposed to being forced to wait for our ally's permission.

I agree with Eklektikos on an alliance with another nation, the FA has posted before that it will not support a war that will drag us into a long conflict.
I do support the building of embassies, partly beacuse it is one of the only means the FA has, this early in the game, to aquire information, from knowing where their capital is to the resourses they have at hand.
It is unlikely the aztecs have iron, since we have not seen a single swordsman, but it is important to know their defensive capabilities, especially in the capital.
The Japanese and the Americans are also included in the discussion since we will, eventually share a border with them. And probably have a war too, we need to know what resourses they have thisearly in the game.

I, as said in my first post, agree that an embassy needs to be constucted in the Aztec capital, whose name I can't spell all that well.

It is essential that we not underestimate the strength of our enemies!

So far most have aproved the building of embassies but not at this time. I sugest we build them in America, Japan and the Aztecs (if they survive) immediatly after the war is over, if not during, depending on the dent the war effort will no doubt do on our coffers. Are there any plans on rushing/improving any more military units?

i dont think we should build one in the aztec lands as it would cost too much money for an embassy which would only last a few turns it would eb beeter to put one in japan as they are nearest to them

I agree that money spent on a Aztec embassy is money wasted. The Aztec will not be long for this world once the campaign gets into full gear.
