This is the thread where we put all the information we have on The Mavericks. Any information that might be useful in diplomacy or in making strategic decisions will be in the first couple posts.

The way it works is this: Anyone can post any information about The Mavericks and any new bits of information that might be useful will be added to the first post so that it is easy to find.

The second post will have links to important communications and treaties with The Mavericks.

The third post will be reserved for any other unforeseen use.

We haven't met them yet, but some discussion has been taking place out in the UN thread. It started off as Indiansmoke jokingly asking Provolution why he was logged in for a really long time recently. It was presented as a multiple choice question and one of the options was: A. He really likes to look at Stonehenge.

Later in the thread obsolete makes the following post:

I thought you were joking at first, but it looks like now that you were not. Hmm! I thought already we had an issue before about not divulging hidden info to everyone in public unless you meet them all first?

Did they not already know that Quatronia had built Stonehenge like we (and apparently Merlot) did? If they didn't know but now they realize it was not a joke, did they meet them? It's all speculation, but obsolete may have given away secret information when he was bringing up an issue with giving away secret information.

As a ploy I am not sure how it would be that effective. How would it help to have people think that you have met Quatronia, when you really haven't?

Ok. Now that we could potentially end up excluding the Mavs, we don't want to be promising anything, although until we actually have CDZ, we definitely want to leave the Maverick option open and our letter should reflect nothing but openness (while not actually telling them anything) and practicality (which I think they will appreciate). We have plenty of things to congratulate them on (Wonders, Religions, etc.).

It's important that we tell them nothing of our Alliance while not seeming like we're holding back. We'll want to be more forthright and open than Merlot's letter to us. I think Merlot was just being too cautious with their information. We can share information that they will know anyway soon, just like we've done with our other opponents. We can mention that we are noticing that the world is star shaped, although I probably would leave out the probable presence of channels leading to the center. They may know and offer this info, but if they don't we'd rather they didn't find out soon because thats the best way for them to get in touch with Merlot.

We can tell Quatronia that we're about to meet the Mavericks. They might give us more information if they have it about them.

Until we have CDZ signed on, I would just treat Mavs as a potential ally. We should definitely send them a nice long letter just as SilCon described.

Hopefully we can dazzle them with the quantity so they don't notice the lack of quality information.

We didn't meet Mavs this turn but the border is still visible. Hopefully we will meet them soon. We need to get our message to them ready.

We met the Mavericks this turn (54). I will hold up ending the turn until the turn rolls over, or we have sent a message to them and recieved a response... whichever comes first. All other teams have acted this turn so we have the ball.

We should Remember to send PMs to a couple people on Mavs, especially DMOC. and whoever else has been taking turns for them.

Draft:

My main concern is what to tell them about our tech trading. If we don't mention it they will know we are holding back, but we don't want to tell them that we are already working against them. I decided to put something in similar to what we put in the letter to Merlot, to keep them interested, but not promising anything. I think from here we can go to either "Ok, we are glad you want to join us; here's our proposal" or "We're sorry to inform you that we have joined an alliance and cannot now trade technologies with you" just as easily. I think it's flexible enough while being open.

Let me know people's thoughts.

Our intrepid explorer, Jenny, has spotted your island domain and when the news made its way back to the AMAZON homeland, enthusiastic celebration and displays of AMAZON prowess broke out in the streets. After recovering, our diplomatics office has worked tirelessly to get out this greeting to you.

We are happy to meet the free-thinking Mavericks. We have heard rumors of a great Oracle that has been erected in your lands for the divining of the will of the gods which has inspired your researchers in their studies. We are further impressed by your religious spirit in founding Hinduism. The gods play a special role in AMAZON society so we are pleased to meet kindred spirits.

The people of The AMAZON respect the Mavericks, not only because of their obvious achievements even at such an early date, but also because we have heard of the many formidable and talented people who label themselves Mavericks. We hope that we can work with the Mavericks and we hope that our relationship will be a mutually beneficial one.

Just as we heard rumors of your many wondrous and religious accomplishments, you have undoubtedly heard rumors that we have been trading knowledge with other teams. We want to tell you that we are still looking for trustworthy people with whom to build a strong and profitable relationship.

We are willing to share some of our information with you in the spirit of cooperation. Our explorers have noticed that the Great Mapmaker who made us all has a great love of symmetry and that our islands appear to be arranged around a star-shaped landmass. Our explorers have also found a large amount of clams around the edge of each arm of the star and a few Whales. It seems that each civilization has an island which has a number of unique resources. The AMAZON has been blessed with an abundance of Sheep and Silver and also have some sources of Deer and Fur. What resources has the Great Mapmaker seen fit to bestow upon you?

Just saw from the screenshots that Mavericks capitol is called Jahazz Banaanew. I have no idea what that means, although if you say it funny it sounds like "I have Bananas." Not sure if they're trying to tell us something about Bananas or if it's something else altogether.

Also just noticed I'm over 1,000 posts now. Considering I didn't have the 30 posts required to have a custom avatar when I signed up for this game, that's pretty impressive to me considering it's only T54. Maybe it means I talk to much.

To the Mavs letter, I would add (for fun... and to speed things along):

The AMAZON are impressed with your breadth of knowledge, particularly your mastery of Temple Building (PH), your skill at crafting Bronze Statues (MC) and your studies into the existence of one supreme Goddess (Monotheism). The last one in particular intrigues us... we are afterall an Alliance of Omipotent Nations. Accordingly we too are currently searching for the knowledge of which of our many Goddesses is the one true Goddess. We have narrowed it down to Hera, Aphrodite, Athena, Persephone, Artemis and Hippolyte...

Of course our Princess Diana has adoring fans who insist she is the living incarnation of a Goddess... as well as a few Zealots who believe our Matron Saint Zenobia was the reincarnation of a Goddess, but we have considerably winnowed the field, and Monotheism will be just the boost we need to setttle this debate once and for all... untill the next Ultimate AMAZON Warrior is crowned. By rule, our Ultimate Warrior is allowed to name the Goddess that all must worship until the next Ultimate Warrior is crowned.

We are interested to know whether the Mavericks wish to discuss an agreement whereby their vast accumulated knowledge would be shared with The AMAZON? Our people are anxious to meet the scholars of the Mavericks and share discoveries.

This message discloses that we are teching Monotheism, which they will know next turn anyway (when we complete it). Hopefully that will motivate them to move quickly to respond... by worrying them that we are quickly acquiring all the tech that they have... lessening their bargaining power with each passing turn... At least that sounds nice in my mind.

We want them to say... "Hmmm they want something we have... let's use it as leverage... Oh crap, they must have found someone else to get it from because they already have it! We better hurry before they... Oh no they have PH too. Hurry up and cut a deal before they get MC and all our bargaining power is gone..." at least that's how it plays out in my mind

I like the sound of that. They know we are tech trading and if we're teching the techs they have it puts pressure on them to hurry while they have something to trade, although they will have MC over us for a while even if one of us starts teching it right away (that's quite a few beakers).

Right, but they dont know that... Most teams have had BW for a long time now, and so MC has been within reach.
