Embassy with "Die Küche"

From justanick in the Kitchen~

Dear Eagles,

we are quite surprised about the Anarchos. Simply declaring the plan as (partially) void is not acceptable. They may have done so before receiving techs from us. But now?
If they insist that there is no valid agreement, than there is also no valid agreement to give them the republic.
Speaking in terms of law a valid agreement had to be arranged before passing any tech or gold. Since passing those techs was prohibited by our old agreement you broke it. We somehow tolerated that because we expected the needed new agreement to be catched up later. So by now we even have no legal base to transfer the republic to you. But that is not your fault and it shall not be detrimental to you. If necessary we have to create a new agreement excluding Anarchia. The Eagles seem to be reasonable people, so that is likely to be a relatively easy task.
However, that is obviosly not the most preferable course of action. We like to say thank you for the quick information about Anarchia's reaction and the ingame contact which we used immediatly to sent them a copy of the summary we made a month ago. We hope they reconsider their unexpected disapproval soon and agree to it.

Best wishes,

yours sincerely, Civbot the service robot

As I was rather annoyed by justanicks thoughts, I answered this:

We still are playing a game, so please do not argue with any legal terms. After d7 apologized for his quick and aggressive reaction, I think we have no trouble with our tech agreement (at least) throughout the Ancient Age.

I really had other words in my mind, but that would not have helped us much. :mischief:

I think if we wanted to keep Anarchie in for much past the Middle Ages we would need to send troops to assist them, otherwise it would make much more sense from their point of view to go back to the BH. Withholding the republic makes that happen much sooner.

All teams agreed to the AA deal originally put forward by Kuche (except on how to do the gold exactly). We don't have paper copies signed in triplicate, but the AA deal is done and is not attached to anything in the middle ages. When Kuche wanted a more formal agreement, they sent out a version which included the early MA, which was not acceptable to Anarchie for the present. We can therefore assume that, since tech exchanges had already taken place (both to and from Anarchie), all teams have agreed to whatever was first put forward by Kuche, with the caveat that the gold lump sums may be modified if a more efficient and fair method is agreed upon.

This IS just a business arrangement. We don't really care how well they light their soufflés. They want to make us Eggs Benedict, while we wait for them to become Benedict Arnold. As long as they give us Republic in a couple of turns, let them say what they will.

The response from justanick....

So, now we are overreacting? Maybe, but a game - especially a competition - without rules (contracts) is not attractive for us. Declaring a part of the agreement as void, contradicts the meaning of the contract: Reliability and practical planning for a certain period of time. This must particularly apply to an alliance that spans more than two partners.

We have posted to the Anarchy that we do not want to discuss a breakdown of the contract (the ancient technologies on the one hand and those technologies of the middle age on the other hand). If the Brotherhood declares war to Anarchia before the Alliance is finished, we suggested that Anarchia could sent gold instead of technologies and a delayed exchange by up to 10 rounds is possible. However, it is no exit strategy from the Alliance! Can the Eagles be in conformity with such an amount of flexibility?

We now tend to allow Anarchia to sell mathematics to the Knights. But that needs to remain the exception! And this especially means that we then expect an immediate ratification of the treaty!

My immediate reply.... Smile Calis, I was just kidding around.

Whoa.... :eek2:

Relax. We are are your side. The majority of Eagles did not want the Anarchy to sell techs to the BH. In fact we made a special post declaring that option illeagal. And they agreed to it. Forbidden!

Your last post came across as a little agressive towards us, even though you said it was not our fault. What happened to Civbot the Service Robot? We like his posts.... B)

Calis was a little ticked because when he was trying to get the last drop out of his whiskey bottle, he chipped a tooth. (j/k) I personally do not trust the Anarchie. I have suggested to the Eagles that we transfer no more techs to them until this is all squared away. But then again, I'm the paranoid one.

So relax. What we should be concentrating on is a calm discussion open to suggestions about how we can finalize the 3-way efficiently. We need to post that we agree on certain guidelines, such as gold transfer, bonus techs, and the like. Not this vague assumption about what someone might have said in the begining about what might happen in the end. Let's start walking the walk.

And no more misunderstandings.... ;)

You're very welcome, Calis. I'm glad you saw the humorous side.

Hopefully, any confusion about the 3-way will dissipate quickly, now that we have three way communication.

Proposal for a contract from Kueche:

1. Die Deutsche Küche, The Eagles and Goldene Anarchie build a research alliance making the technologies warrior code, ceremonial burial, mysticism, the republic, polytheism, code of law, map making, construction, monotheism, chivalry, literature, mathematics, horseback riding, currency, feudalism and engineering available to each party.

2. Die Deutsche Küche researches warrior code(75), ceremonial burial(50), mysticism(100), the republic(600) and polytheism(300).

3. The Eagles research code of law(214), map making(300) and construction(500).

4. Goldene Anarchie researches literature(250), mathematics(200), horseback riding(125) and currency(400).

5. Researching the technologies monotheism(900), chivalry(800), feudalism(800) and engineering(900) will be assigned to a party as soon as the bonustechnologies of The Eagles and Goldene Anarchie are determinated. A possible war may be regarded in those assignments.

6. None of the technologies part of this agreement are permitted to be passed in any way to The Knights’ Brotherhood with only two exceptions: Literature has been passed before negotiating the agreement. Mathematics are permitted to be sold for a price of 125 gold.

7. The costs of researching every technology have been noted above. Those costs will be shared by one third for each party. There are only two exception: The costs of researching code of law will be shared by one half for Die Deutsche Küche and The Eagles each. In case The Eagles and Goldene Anarchie receive the same bonustechnology Die Deutsche Küche will only pay one quarter of the costs to The Eagles and Goldene Anarchie each. If Mathematics are sold the gained gold will by shared by one third for each party.
All goldtransfers are added and than rounded to integers.
So if The Eagles and Goldene Anarchie will both put 1700 gold into researching technologies of the medieval age Die Deutsche Küche will pay 548 gold to The Eagles and 492 Gold to Goldene Anarchie.

8. The transfer of the gold payments may be prioritized in order to prioritize the research of the receiving party. In case of a war Goldene Anarchie may delay their payments up to 10 turns. But in that case transfering technologies may be delayed, too.

9. All technologies will be exchanged immediatly when researched. Delaying that is only possible if both the sending and the receiving party agree to do so.

-----------

1. Die Deutsche Küche, The Eagles und Goldene Anarchie bilden eine Forschungsallianz, die jeder Partei die Technologien Ehrenkodex, Feierliche Bestattung, Mystik, Republik, Polytheismus, Gesetzgebung, Karthografie, Bauwesen, Monotheismus, Rittertum, Literatur, Mathematik, Reiten, Währung, Feudalismus und Maschinenbau verfügbar macht.

2. Die Deutsche Küche erforscht Ehrenkodex(75), Feierliche Bestattung(50), Mystik(100), Republik(600) und Polytheismus(300).

3. The Eagles erforschen Gesetzgebung(214), Karthografie(300) und Bauwesen(500).

4. Goldene Anarchie erforscht Literatur(250), Mathematik(200), Reiten(125) und Währung(400).

And justanicks own comment on it:

It is'nt pretty and with enough evil energy you might deliberately missunderstand it. For example one might delay researching a tech infinitely. But after all it should suffice. And without trust and discipline cooperation can't work anyway.

Still don't much care for how the Kitchen has solidified their position by owning large amounts of gold, but go with it. We need to have something in writing.

A milestone in the world peace effort. Congrats! :)

Can you check to see if Kuche is still in anarchy next turn? Anyone want to bet on whether or not they're religious.

All this time I was bettin' they were Babylon... :bounce:

But then they'd be scientific. Unlikely. I believe to remember that Charlemagne thoguth they were Japan, right?

That is my guess, yes.
