Emperor Cookbook II: Mehmed II

The thing to keep in mind is that just because your production sucks, it doesnt mean you have "low production". Its all relative. The AIs are stuck with the same crappy production sites that you are, but as the human, you can usually leverage your land better than they do. Ever watch an AI on a watery map trying to turn a city toward "production"? Towns get plowed under for farms and Workshops, then, when they want to go back toward "commerce", the cottages get re-built on top of the Workshops. Seriously, I think the AI handles their land even more poorly on water maps than they do on regular continent style maps.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. The above point about the AI having the same problem is well taken. I wondered why they were so slow in building the spaceship parts. It's obvious really, but I hadn't spotted it.

...

Yes, the AI definitely values tech more than cities.
...

Interesting!

In my continuation of the original game I got into a war that I wanted to end quickly so that I could get on with building the spaceship. The trouble was that the price for peace was to give back the city I'd conquered most recently. I wish I'd realised he would have settled for some crappy tech. My own fault for not trying it.

I wasn't exaggerating when I said they'll often settle for a paltry sum of gold, too (as in, far less value than even the tech).

I've been meaning to ask. Who's the cutie in your pic? Your GF?

She would kill me  It's a pic I found on the net, she has a tatoo of Raskolnikov (Crimes and punishments, Dostoïevski) on her shoulder...
I love your sniping cat myself :)

Cheers

Nice win RJM! I definitely get frustrated on low production maps, but I think I have learned a lot of things in this game (like the amazing power of the GLH) that will help me out in the future.

I have been totally absorbed in random stuff--so I haven't finished up the game. I think we should start up a new EC after the holidays are over...

Does anyone have any ideas for leader/map type/etc?

Hi! a new thread in january would be cool yeah... How about pangea for the next game? Plenty of warmongers out there...

Cheers,

Happy New Year everyone!

I am thinking its probably about time to start our next EC. I know we have a vote for a Pangaea type map... any ideas for leader or anything? If nobody has any ideas, I will just pick something myself :satan:!!

Pangaea or Fractal works for me, its the map I need the most work on. I have the Island thing down pretty well, I think.

I wouldnt mind a strong Warmongering leader either, but nothing too crazy. Maybe KK? Keshiks + CRE is a nice land-grabbing combo. Cyrus would work too, but Immortals are a bit OP IMHO.

Happy new year to you too.

I have no preference as to type of map, but I do have a mild preference for normal size and normal speed.

As much as I prefer epic speed, I think its time to let the normal speed people have a turn.

I know I definitely need work on my warmongering, so I am up for either KK or Shaka.

If you say so. Just keep in mind the slower speed the easier path of war is. Although i think Shaka is decent leader for peaceful REX.

Everyone always mentions that slower speeds=easier warring, and this is very true. But what I actually appreciate about epic (used to play marathon but weaned myself off) the most is that the slower speeds let you get away with sloppier micro, and wasted worker turns aren't as big of a deal. Basically, you can get away with sloppier play.

Interesting... I hadn't thought of that, but I guess units do go obsolete faster in normal speed. We will just have to see how it goes.

I plan on starting up the new EC on Wednesday (the 7th). Unless someone objects, I will randomly pick between Shaka and KK. We will play at normal speed on a normal sized Pangaea map. I will just be starting a new game without checking anything out in WB--so we have to work with what we get.

Ugh, the double whammy of a tight map and a faster speed, going to be rough for me. Well, at least in this format I will get a solid save to go from. I really think this format has very strong educational value.

Very insightful. This, to my mind, is the biggest difference between Epic and Normal. And it is why I coming to prefer Normal. Every move counts. And I can make them count better than the AI.
