Emperor Domination

Galileo44: When fighting Archers it's 5%, cause it is taken from the defender strength, not the attacker. 5% means, that Archers strength is raised by 0.3. It's not tragical.

When fighting Longbows, you are right then.

edit: It's the slowest succesion game on this forum :D . Maybe we will gain some reward.

yeah, i like how much discussion we've had. keep in mind that one of our members had to be away for the full 5 days of his turn. i think we're moving along pretty good though considering we're not just play-and-posting everyday with little-to-no discussion...

But I still posted in the specified guidelines and figured out the whole photobucket thing (I was trying to make it much more complicated than it was).

Our succession game might wind up over 100 pages. Right now, it seems were about 1.3 pages per turn set. It could become the first civfanatics saga, novel caliber. Chapter 1: Where's my copper? Chapter 2: Operation Dumbo-drop. etc...etc...

I like the discussion and haven't perused the other threads in this forum. Might be they're basically turnset after turnset with little to no discussion? I suppose part of the fun is inheriting the game with little information to go on.

^^yeah, i don't mind you taking your full days of turns, i was just saying that we aren't moving along at a 1day/turn clip kind of thing, which is perfectly fine! :)

i love how this game is progressing so far with all the discussion, etc., it's exactly how i imagined it :D

posting my update...

675BC-450BC Diplomatic Nightmares

YIKES! WHY DID THIS HAVE TO BE MY TURNSET?!?!

Guys, I'm sorry if I screwed anything up here, I gave it my best and made what I believed to be the best decisions. I could've paused at each decision to request feedback and I really thought about it a couple times, but in the end decided to forge on hopefully making the right decisions :) Here we go...

Inherited turn: I notice that Sparta has its own cows, maybe we don't need to raze it??? I also notice the barb city is quite far away and would hurt us maintenance-wise...I also decided to assign a citizen specialist (still +3 beakers/turn under representation) in Munich (couldn't do much otherwise anyways...) to shave a turn off alphabet!! (probably a good thing I did...)

675BC: Not much...

650BC: Not much...

625BC: Nappy comes along and...

Nappysdemand0000.jpg

Demands we cancel relations with Washington. I figure we can't afford to lose a long-term trading partner with Alex and Hannibal in our sights...So I tell him no and...(more on this in a moment...)

600BC: Alex comes along and...

Alexdemand0000.jpg

Yep, no love for Washington! I tell Alex to take a hike...I stop Stonehenge in Berlin with 1 turn left.

575BC: *Drumroll please...* Alphabet complete!!! Turns out Nappy already has it!!! Fortunately he's not human and hasn't traded it to everyone  Things are tricky here though...I am able to trade it to Hannibal for Math (Nappy is only other one to have it...), so I do. Then the question is whether to trade for iron from Alex or Washington. Maybe this was the wrong choice, but I chose Washington. This led to...

NappyAnnoyed0000.jpg

Nappy is now annoyed!!! Hopefully he'll keep Washington as his worst enemy and then we can get him back to cautious by gifting him a tech at some point...

Then I give alpha to Alex for sailing (for compass) and medit (for phil). Unfortunately only Hannibal and Nappy had poly and we had nothing to trade Nappy and we needed math from Hannibal...

LOCATIONS OF IRON...

Yeah, so we don't have any... :(

Iron10000.jpg

Kind of a strange spot, not sure if we want to reach for this...I vote no...

and...

Iron20000.jpg

Yep, we can take a source of iron from Alex...(resettling this city could be debated...)

550BC: I could make another trade with Washington (who doesn't have math), but I hold off not wanting to piss Nappy off further. I could also make another trade with Hannibal (who doesn't have IW), but I'm in no hurry to give Hannibal iron. Maybe this was the wrong decision...? A library is finished in Munich and since stonehenge STILL ISN'T BUILT!!! I start it in Munich as well...I also put 1 chop into a library at Hamburg.

525BC: I finish a workboat at Berlin for scouting the island (good idea guys!) and start a lighthouse (2 turns only). Library finished at Hamburg, start walls (2 turns only) in case Alex declares...

500BC: Confucianism FIDL

475BC: Hannibal comes demanding IW...I give in. I didn't want to, but I figured we don't want to make immediate enemies with everyone and he's gonna get it sooner or later so fine. It makes him pleased with us :) I start the GLH in Berlin (12 turns)

450BC: Polyth in, Lit in 9. GE to be born in 3.

Nice island site!!!

Hamburg (in retrospect maybe my 1 chop should've been the grasslands river to get another farm...sorry):

Well, I felt this was a tough round. Hopefully things came out alright in the end!

Hey futurehermit:

Nice report, and I think you played the turnset well. Right up until you forget to attach the save....

you guys are funny :) I like operation dumbo-drop...

just looked at the save and think next player should increase science by 10%. that takes another turn off of literature. things look nice, though. han and alex are gonna die soon anyways and as you pointed out washington has much more potential as a trading partner.

@ lilnev: if you play today and post I can still play tomorrow. Afterwards I can't play for about 3 weeks. :(

Eventful turnset hermit.

Since we've no iron (I was really optimistic for metals on the island), I'm torn between war with Hannibal or war with Alex. Alex still makes the most sense I suppose, but the elephants won't defend that well against the mighty phalanx.

The island city will at least generate some income and grow steadily. Again, I had higher hopes for that locale since our starting turf isn't that great.

I made the observation that stonehenge is one turn away in a city, and it was being built in another city. Plus the Great Lighthouse is being built as well. Are you planning on reaping cash for all this and then switching to Universal Suffrage to buy a military? I figure that's the case with stonehenge (otherwise, why build it twice?) but do you really want to build the GLH or is my universal suffrage idea correct.

This should prove to be fun. Once the war begins, we'll be at it for a long time. Alex then Hannibal, quickly. Land is power.

When my turn is up next, I will probably get it, play, and post same day.

I was just thinking of getting cash to keep our science up...buying military is pricy. Basically, Munich had nothing better to build (imo) and stonehenge wasn't built yet, and Munich puts out lots of hammers, so I figured "hey why not get some more cash?" Same with GLH: nothing really better to build at this point (waiting for construction now really and can't run scientists til GE born...)...

I think we should go after Alex first. That lack of rice is really hurting Hamburg...And Alex has a fairly easy source of iron we can get...and Alex isn't as trustworthy as Hannibal. If we declare on Hannibal and then Alex declares on us, could get ugly...

The cash is nice for keeping research up. But the cash from stonehenge should be enough to finance us until our first war. Do we currently have spare archers to leave behind in cities we keep. It would be a bummer if our war was slowed down because of insufficient garrisons. I'm 50/50 on keeping sparta. Athens is a keeper.

It's just weird to me that there is nothing better to build than wonders for cash. I suppose if we had metals, it would be a different story.

Got it.
I think I'll switch Hamburg to an archer or two, Berlin to a galley/settler, and probably pick up the Stone and mine for a couple of scientists in Munich. I'm significantly concerned about our research rate. 9 turns for Lit? 2 scientists will add 15 beakers, about a 50% boost. I do hope someone builds Stonehenge soon.
The other option would be to crank out chariots and go take the barb city. Though no one else seems to like this idea. It does come with Gems....

peace,
lilnev

Yeah, it doesn't matter if we run scientisists in Munich now, as long as the GE pops in Berlin faster than a GS there which is certain. Also, we will get the GE before Lit at this rate. Where should the GL go? I vote Berlin. Athens would be better but we don't have time.

PS. I won my first game on Immortal yesterday in Snaaty's space race challenge. [party]

Yeah. Gems, Gold and Silver within our grasp. We should run for Metal Casting after Construction.

Galileo44: Agree with Berlin. I won Space Race too. It's the high-scored SpaceRace of mine. Normally I go for Domination ;)
