Emperor Domination

Yes. I wish it was my turn too. Now we have an army. I think Munich should produce mounted units and Berlin and Hamburg should produce only cats. Philosophy should be lightbulbed and we should exchange sth for Feudalism. We will need that tech to defend f.e. Sparta.

I did exactly that for production. I produced 6 cats, 2HAs, and a chariot on my turn. I already lightbulbed Philo, so you can trade it now. And yes, it was tempting to even out the years by playing 13, but vra would be mad if he didn't get to fight, so I just doubled our army.

Do we want to be trading Philosophy away? I thought we might hold onto it for liberalism or is getting there first not in our scope? To those of us in the group that have played on emperor before, what are the chances of getting cavalry before rifles hit the board?

Nice turnset G-44.

I think that trading Philo could be beneficial, but I think I would keep it. That is why I didn't trade it already. The other continent is only 2 civs, so it will be backward. Our continent will not research Philo anytime soon now that Taoism is gone. It will be an important bargaining chip in the Liberalism race as you said JohnnyRico. I think that we don't really need feuldalism right now.

PS. I would like to know what people thought of my tech choice. And right now, we could go back to music if the GA is still there, then bomb Sparta for control of the battlefield and 80% cultural defence for archers.

It's rather 60% bonus. We would need still 1k culture points.

edit: CoL is good choice, while it opened our way to Philo. Engineering. I started researching Machinery so I guess Engineering can't be worse choice  However Engineering or Machinery can be lightbulbed by 1 GE. I guess that Engineering is logical consequence of Machinery and it gives us two powerful things ... faster movement and Trebs. If lack of Iron, I would say it's very good choice. And I'll bet that we will still win Lib race.

edit2: Trebs crush longbows and upgrade cost Trebs->Cannons is very low. 80 gold points.

Feudalism was always sth I wanted to have. I remember my first Immortal (or Emperor) game in Vanilla. I garissoned 5 longbows. And turn after that enemy lost about 25 units, trying attack my city (mainly horse archers). When city is placed on hills Longbows are unbeatable. I would sell Machinery for Feudalism.

edit: we have none defending unit.

We will need longbows also to stop Numidian Cavalry ;)

I think elephants will handle numidian cavalry quite nicely as the phants get +50% versus mounted units.

Fuedalism is an interesting choice to actually trade for. The only reason I usually go for it is because of serfdom. That tech always seems to be available cheap and comes at a time when I've just routed another civ and want to get tiles restored quickly.

Playing as I do on monarch, I never have a need for longbows for defense because I'm usually on offense and enemy stacks don't make it to my cities. However, I almost always have a copper or iron by this point in a game.

We should trade as many old techs away for cash as we can. No sense in letting AIs upgrade all their units. They already get a nice discount for upgrading troops.

I was thinking more about the map and feudalism. Since caste system isn't going to be much good to us, serfdom might be. I think we're past our window of whipping (I really don't use it unless a city is unhappy or has a ludicrous abundance of food, which we don't have. Hell, we used one of our food tiles to make beer!). Athens might have the food but that could be a ways off, maybe not.

Serfdom is pretty weak, generally. I think we stay in Slavery, unless Caste starts to look better. At the least we'll want to whip up some basics in newly captured cities.

I generally pick up Feudalism in trade at some point just because it's a pre-req for Guilds-Banking-etc. I'm more interested in acquiring a large pile of cash. If they've seriously got 1200, we should think about just plain selling Philo. Running at 100% science straight through the Rennaisance can be amazing.

I think we definitely want lib 1st. As a phil leader there's no excuse not to imo considering we can lightbulb paper, ed, and...not lib since we have machinery :(

Re: Getting cav. AI tends to beeline for rifles quite early and I find grens have a longer lifespan...we aren't fast enough at teching so far imo to go for cav. Safter to go for grens since we can lightbulb chem...

Re: feudalism, we'll need it at some point but we don't have to be desperate for it. numidian cav should be no worry since we have elephants...and hopefully hannibal will be fighting alex with us in the short term, is that still a plan?

Turns out the meditation was useful. Got two cities, we now have iron, and Knossos is ripe to fall. I could only do so much with 10 turns.

Will report tomorrow.
