....may I try a..."loose translation"?... Vamanos! (Let's go!)

Conquistemos España. ("Let us conquer Spain.")

Alternatively...

"Si, El España es el proximo." (Yes, Spain is Next.)

...or...put another way:

:hammer:

BTW: If there are any Spaniards tracking this thread... I prefer Spanish Brandy to French Cognac any day of the week. ...and if there are any Basque tracking this...I'm fond of Pacharan as well.

My attempts at talking en español.

I probably didn't make sense (my apologies to Spaniards lurking.) I've finished two turns, lots of RL, and I think I can finish tomorrow. I don't mind being skipped if you want, btw.

Je ne parle pas bien l'espagnol. Puis-je ecrire en francais?

Hmm, yeah, as I said before, my original more detailed log got wiped out mid-post, I was tired, ratty, and didn't want to put it all in again.

We're running a deficit on Monarchy because we don't have anything better to do with the cash. We didn't/won't need it for upgrades (we have half-a-dozen Warriors that can be upped to Swords? And if we're going for Monarchy they'll be stay-at-home MPs anyway so won't need upgrading).

No languages, little history, the state of education in this world.....

IBT- Spain builds The Great Wall.

Peace with Spain expired. 19 units at Toledo. Next player could wake them up and attack Barcelona now, or wait for more troops. There's a spear-settler pair from Spain nearby that we could kill for free workers. England has Feudalism but won't trade it (speaking of England, anyone noticed Dublin (English).) We're gaining money now, but we used to be losing it. It's still expensive to research, so we should save up. Elephants will be great, especially if we can't get iron.

Am I after Viper? If so, 'got it'.

@scout,
Roster says "Bede", but as I pointed out in Bede04A I could use the skip, so, it's yours, if plarq concurs. I couldn't get to it until Sunday anyway.

We have 19 units ready to :hammer: Barcelona and we won't get Iron? Hmm. ;) What does our esteemed Military Adviser tell us of our powers vs. Spain?

[Edit] We are strong vs. Spain. I think next player ought to spend some cash investigating Barcelona, then delcare on Spain. Take out the Settler pair, and troop units up to Barcelona's door. Take it out, rush a Settler if we get the resistance quelled quickly, abandon, and re-form with our own Settler. Save the Spanish one for once they're tostinos. Of course, I am but a humble trainee.... Get some units protecting Carachi, though, it's wide open to a Spanish Archer right now. Best bet is 24 gold for the Archer in Carachi itself, though it'd be a Reg.

Neil.

@plarq,
Follow scout. I love following scout into war. (Goes looking for his shovel and bucket. Someting my daddy once said about the the only way to follow the ponies was with a shovel and bucket...).

Getting a spare settler shouldn't be a problem.

@eldar. I like the idea of abandoning Barcelona, though why wait for the resistance to end...Spanish slaves will come in handy.

If scout does the "Remove or declare" on the Spanish settler pair, the war will be all their fault.

I've had some 'technical difficulties' today...but I seem to have them solved. I'll read the comments, and play shortly.

Pre-Flight Check (130 BC)

Wake the Spear in Manali and send it to Carachi.
MM Madras to shave a turn off the market build.
Swap Bangalore to Horse (it really doesn't need a court) and MM for another SPT.
Same for Harappa. (now +5spt)
Shave 2 turns off Guntur's archer build.
Swap Delhi to horse...
Swap Darjeeling to Spear.

We need to raze and replace Canturbury at some point...

IBT - Delhi Horse>Spear
Toledo Spear>Temple
Bangalore riots.
Siringar flips to the Spanish. :wallbash:

Enough of this. It's time to make somebody pay.

Turn 1 (110) Dial up Izzy and declare war.
Take an Archer and whack the settler pair outside Guntur.
Take a horse and capture (!) Srinagar. Srinagar starts a Temple. I hate temples. Back up research and start Literature.

Advance a bunch of troops on Barcelona.

IBT - Incas complete Hanging Gardens.

Turn 2 (90)
Dial up Ragnar and trade Monarchy for Literature.
England has Feudalism. Hire a scientist and start on Monotheism.
Advance on Barcelona.

IBT - A 1 hp Spanish Archer kills a fortifed Spear in Carachi, and captures the city. [pissed]
Harappa Horse>Horse
Calcutta Spear>Rax

Turn 3 (70)
Catapults go 0-for-whatever at Barcelona, lose 2 horses, whack a sword/settler pair, archers finish the job, and we take Barcelona. Immediately upgrade a couple of warriors.

IBT - Delhi Horse>Sword
Bombay Archer>Sword
Bangalore Horse>Sword
Guntur Archer>Sword

Why am I building so many Swords? The Spanish piled an archer, 2 spears and a Sword on OUR iron IBT.

Turn 4 (50) It costs a horse and an archer, but I clear off our Iron mountain.

IBT - Ragnar complains about a trespassing curraugh

Turn 5 (30)
reshuffle some troops...

IBT - Vikings start Great Library

Turn 6 (10 AD) sending reinforcements (Swords) to go after Madrid

Turn 7 (30 AD)
Shuffling troops...

IBT - The citizens of Barcelona Depose our governor. Dangit. Byzantines complete Great Library.

Turn 8 (50) Whack Salamanca...thinking about resettling Barcelona. Shuffling troops.

Turn 9 (70) Advancing troops on Madrid (gotta leave some fun for the next better player)
Salamanca connected)

Turn 10 (90) Shuffling troops...

Let's see ... outside Madrid, we now have: 4 Archers, 4 Horses, 5 Catapults, 3 Swords.
Outside Barcelona, we have a settler on the hill SE of its present location. The Volcano went active during my turns. We need to decide whether we want the Great Wall or not (it already flipped on me once.

> > The Save < <

Got it.......

Some thoughts:

I apologize for some of the build-order changes, but there were some things that struck me. We had some granary cities building units, and some barracks cities building improvements. With only one Lux, we don't need markets. We're in okay shape, tactically speaking... but I have strategic questions for those who are here to learn:

1) Who are the 'next logical targets' after Spain?
2) Among them, how does the timing of our UU and the timing of one possible target affect the military situation? (Look at terrain too...)

@scoutsout:

1)I think it's English. She's up in tech in our continent, and she's Sea and Com.She'll get a lot of cash during MA.And liberating those puny Scottish/Irish/Welsh people from the evil empire of Lizzy will be a sacred job!
2)It will be eldar who will be the "elephant rider"(Not me...[pissed]) I guess.
GA will target on English, and we need some more churches. So temples are needed before GA.Hope someone will build Sistine for us.

First off, looks like Spain is all but finished - Madrid will tumble next turn, and Santiago not long after that. Nice one  Good of them to build the GW for us, too.

Next targets? Clearly England or the Mongols.

Both are somewhat mired in Jungle, but the English less so - 3 of their 4 core cities can be reached across open ground. Crucially, there's a road across the mountain leading into English territory which we can use for our Cats/Trebs. So, to best take advantage of our 2-movement UU, or even Horses if England proves weak enough, we should attack England. Also, the Mongols get their UU at the same time as us. Though Almarikh's Spices look oh-so-inviting.

lurker's comment:
With only one Lux, we don't need markets

 Couldn't disagree more...A COM Civ, and no income :crazyeye:

And btw scout, your crusade against Temples, even when playing a REL Civ on a level where you could easily afford the shields - how many cities did that cost so far ;)? And the units lost because ot thát should be about the sp of Temples in any city...
I fully agree with Cathedrals usually not worth it. But this kind of anti-Temple playstyle works only when you raze/replace everything, and avoid any overlap with AI cities. Or as a variant rule.
