Why?

Cuz people are always quitting.

This is for Emporer level players.

Western United States High Speed Internet Players.

We will use MSN messenger.

I will be online most of the time Sat and Sun, and 6PM PST- 12 AM PST.

But this isn't my club. It is to be a group of good players who finish games.

Emporers Club games will have a universal password.

You can join by having a member vouch that you fought to the bitter end.

BTW, for the one city loss quitters, you don't know what you are missing by not staying in the game and hunkering down :)

Ask for me to add me to your list @ reubenDias@msn.com on msn messenger.

What do club members get? the assurance that playing a game for 3 hours with another member will not come to a dead end when something goes wrong for your opponent..... cuz I'm sick of this Oh you took my city... geez I gotta go B.S.

Please post on this thread if you use a different name than your CFC name!

Aaron Clemens - this guy played and survived with one city for a long game.
Black adder2 - poster at this thread
Coffecup - poster at this thread
Essex - emporer level
Kimmet - Emporer level, will play even when getting a beating
Lionel Hutz - Emperor level, good enough that I've never seen if he plays even if not winning ;)
Quillan - poster at this thread
Sallandair - emporer level and played to bitter end
SteamRoller - not emporer level but played to bitter end.

P.S. I'd love to post the names of the weak, but I don't think the admins would approve, so I'll just post the names of the strong.

P.P.S. I think it would be cool to have a club list of quitters, whiners etc, so we could be forewarned. I know I am keeping one of people I will never play again ;)

Nah, just look at the Hall of Shame type thread at Poly. If players whine, quit, cheat, etc., let their reputation follow them. Posting such a thread intices flaming
:queen:

The list will be circulated amongst club members via e-mails or PM's. ;)

gotcha I haven't been online past two days..... they tell me work will slow down in the winter, but right now it's really busy.

I only use the address for messenger. YOu can PM me if you wish.

Edit: nm got your PM. :)

Please add me to this list.

I have yet to finish a game due to the quitting of others.

So your criteria is a bit unfair in that respect...

Hi, I have been frustrated by early on and mid game quitters too, and would like to play with someone committed to playing a game out - win OR lose.

I live in AZ and use cable, so I think we should have a good connect. Please email me at black_adder2@yahoo.com.

I have AIM, MSN, and ICQ - but I leave all 3 shutoff except when I need to use them, so email me first then we will setup a time.

Thanks!:egypt:

Hey,

I'm looking to get a game going starting tonight, Fri., Dec. 13. Game time is 6:30 to 8:30 or 9:00 PM, P.S.T. weekdays.

Scenario as follows:

Difficulty: Emperor
Mode: Simultaneous Moves
Timer: Fast
Map: Standard, Panagea or Random
Barbs: Random

Other: 4 AI's, 3-4 human, Accelerated Production

All suggestions welcome.

I will host, probably direct IP, have cable, P4, high speed ram.

Please let me know, either by email or messenger, harshbadlydiet@msn.com

thks........harsh

suggesti9on.... slow timer, maybe even none.

I played a 4 player game to industrial age w/ normal timer, then war broke out.

My stack of 12 cannon and much cavalry and musketmen couldn't all attack in one turn, I couldn't even get 1/3 of the cannon to bombard before it was the next turn. This while I was being attacked from the north by a huge stack of riflemen and cavalry.

OK, sounds like turn based and standard timer will work best with many cities. I've read that before.

renmike will join. That makes 3. Four ai's, three players on a standard map will make a game.

Suggest we setup the game, test the connection and discuss other preferences.

Try 7pm PST, tonight, Sat Dec 14. Email or messenger me for my IP address.

Therin lies the problem... There isn't a way to switch to turn-based for wars either. One idea I have is play the game turn-based on a quick timer, but save it when war breaks out then switch to a normal or long timer (you can change that) for the duration of the war.

2 people games with 6 ai this should be agreeable, but I would be pissed if I was the 3rd player and had to sit through a long and slow war that I wasn't involved in.

Just an idea. The real solution is allowing to switch to turn-based or automatically going to turn-based once war is declared, esp between 2 humans.

I'll play if you haven't started yet... i'm on ultra DSL, and am looking for a few good people to play a full game with. PM me.

After reading Neomega's and Black_adder2's posts, I thought I had better give turn based a try. I have experiece similar problems as Neomega during sim turns. Diplomacy suffered and I found myself in a war on two fronts. grrr.

So I tried turn based. Yes it is slow. However as follow up to black_adder2's ideal solution it occured to me that we could reload the game at end of each age.

So for example:

Sim turns, accel production.......Ancient times
Turn based, accel production......Medieval Age
Turn based, standard production...Industrial & Mordern times

My thinking here is to maintain a game pace which is comparabale to single player play.

I don't think we should reload because someone is in war, i think it means people need to be smarter about their wars, prepare more in advance... The other option is to do slower turns, so that when wars broke up there would be enough time. I have played a couple of interesting cat and mouse simul games as guys jockeyed for position though, so long turns may actually run the full length. I think that people who aren't in war should just bring a book to those sessions! It is the only way to maintain consistency.

thoughts?

As for times, off the top of my head i can make mon-wed at 9:30 pm EST, but for sure not thurs.

mY mod is coming close to deadline so I've decided to start focusing on that with the little free time I have.

This means I probably will not be playing much.

Anyways, What I am looking more for is for you guys to post names of good players who kept playing even after losing a city or two, and I'll edit the top thread with these honorable players names :)

I think I will also mail a list of the despicable to harsh, and he can add names if he has any, and pass it on, and we'll rotate this on through.

Right now the club is fairly open, I see it as a mafia kind of thing, ie if Hutz says I'll vouch for Quillan and then Quillan vouches for black adder then you are in.

If hutz says "I'll vouch for Vedder", I'll say, "my ass, hes on the black list"

Right now my personal blacklist has 8 people, and 1 for lack of skills.

(lack of skillz isn't bad, I just don't think I could have fun playing them)

I think Sim move none for turn timer is best option..... especially in a game of honorable players. The only real problem would be a stale mate where each player tries to wait for the other to move and no-one goes.

I'll just trust you few who are responding are honorable, and if you turn out to be hypocrites, posting on this thread, but quitting when the chips are down, I'll start a rat list, which will be worse than the blacklist. :P

ALSO: remember if you see any of the people listed in the first post, they will play you :) and play you good :)

I like sim moves just fine, *except* for human vs human war... I was just playing a guy the other day - he lands 8 cav on one of my mainland cities and I have no RR tracks.

I only have 1 rifleman in that city and 1 siphai (ottomans) in attack range.

So if it were a conventional turn-based: He lands, I see him. I attack and kill 1 cav with siphai. I move second siphai and 4 rifleman within 3 moves on road of city.

His turn: He owns me with 7 remaining cav, mayby I kill 4 cause I am REAL lucky with the 1 rifleman. But he still wins with 3 cav inside my city. AND if he has the leftover 3 (which is being optimistic for me) he blows the road out, thus slowing my 3 rifles by 1 turn, and kills my only 2 siphai (I couldnt get them stacked with the rifles).

He would probably hold that city, at least for a few turns, and mess me up significantly (not crippling, but I would feel it).

OK - now here's what happened on simul moves... I killed the 1 cav just like I said above, next turn I immediately started fast moving my 2 siphai and got 2 more cav kills in on him before he could even attack, he then got 1 cav to attack and it died on the rifle, hes down to 4 now... I attack with 2 rifles, 1 wins, 1 looses but messes up the cav, he has 2 full cav and 1 red one now.... he gets in another attack and looses. I get in the 3rd inf (which was 1 tile closer) into the city - NOT the smartest way to do things mayby (you may be thinking I should have put the defense in before I started attacking, true) - but I was in a hurry.... anyways it saved me cause his last fresh cav got the kill, so it took 2 cavs in reality to take out the 1 vet rifle.

BUT I held the city leaving in 1 conscript rifle, and lost only 1 conscript rifle in attacking - next turn I quick finished off his red cav.

So he lost all 8 cavs, I lost 1 rifle. Simply cause I had better reaction time.

I felt bad :( This is NOT Command & Conquer where fastest click wins... but that IS how sim move human vs human plays out.

So, my suggestion is a turn-based game with a FAST turn timer for first hour of play, then standard for next 2 hours of play, then slow timer for remainder.

It keep up some time pressure, but doesnt slow the game down too badly, and most of all keeps wars fair.

What do you think?

I appreciate your points black adder, and am fond of your namesake, but i don't believe it comes down to 'fastest' click. It does come down to prioritizing what you do first, automoving units, rally points, and a little cat and mouse. Truth to tell, an attack that size against a basically undefended homeland went pretty good for you, but he'll learn too... for sure he should have landed some defense, rushed walls etc or something (depending on the situation).
SImul unlimited time is fine, but some players will get irked when, say, a player is expansionist, or has twice as many cities to tend (and units). As long as everyone is out for a good time it should be fine, as there will be times when the reverse holds true, and you take the longest. DIplomacy also slows things down for the other players, and people must realize that that will happen.

My goal in trying to find a small group was basically that there would be no reason to quit since we'd all play again.

I cannot play thursday night, as i have to take the puppy to school, other than that i am free of obligations, and can play for 2-3 hour blocks (once again, the puppy must eliminate every few hours) PM me, or email, qnagel@yahoo.com
