I've tried googling this to no avail - is there a benefit to siting on a hilltop? I'm aware it can mean the difference in whether or not a garrisoned unit can shoot over hills and forests but I'm not clear if there's any benefit for the district itself.

I only assumed that being on a hilltop would provide a bonus to defense even when in an encampment, but I never verified that to be true. If you attack one on a hilltop, what does it show to be the bonuses? I will try to remember to look next time, but alas, I have a terrible memory for these kinds of things.

Since civ 4 a hill top has provided defense and it should provide defense still.
