Hopping Mad! HOPPING MAD!!!

Thats what I was feeling when I just started playing Civ mate but just try again it does get easier with time and you will be building the shuttle in no time.

If it bothers you that much I believe you can somehow change the date of retirement but thats for someone else to answer.

By the way if you are thinking of playing on in that game just to see the shuttle launch, dont bother, you cant launch after 2050.

Yep, no launching after the game is over (pisses me off in its own right). I had nearly won the game as a military victory, knocked 5 of the 7 other civs off the map, then the game was over. I kept on playing, just to destory everybody for the fun of it, and decided "what the heck, I'll build the space ship while I'm at it". 30 turns later, and no facking ability to launch

Gee Whiz.

To limit the amount of time someone can play is a bit disgraceful. I honestly think that they should display technology to AGES. Maybe not, but... To put a flippin' LIMIT on the amount of time you can play... It's just not cool. There's no way to fix it before you start the darned game.

Geez..

But there is a way to fix it after you start the game ... satisfy one of the victory conditions.

I know THAT smarty. :)

But I WANT to keep playing as the country I was. As far as I was concerned, things were going VERY nicely.

<shakes head> And then the forced retirement has to come and ruin it. <sobs>

Yeah - I have wondered why there is no option to pick an end year in the editor. Maybe we could create a post-modern era, or just have a few more years to kick around before forced retirement... Maybe there's a hard limitation in the game code which prevents this as a viable option?

I don't really mind the forced retirement bit all that much. There does need to be some sort of time limit on a game, just like mario brothers. If you didn't finish the level in time, you died. Well, same thing here. If you don't finish the game in time, too bad. You can keep on playing, you just don't get a score.

What upsets me is that you can't lauch the shuttle. I just wanted to see what it looked like

Future Tech.
You get bonus points for Future tech.
If we had infinite time, anyone could milk the game. Turn off all victory conditions except Conquest, knock down the other civs, leave 1 of them with 1 city. (pretty easy on Chieftain).
Start on future tech research. Leave golfballs on the enter and spacebar keys and go to bed. The next morning, you have researched 12 future techs. Milking would give infinite points.

BAAAD.

We have the cutoff for a reason here. We try to limit the future tech.

Their problem is with not be able to complete the game properly, and not actually because they want a high score. Edited games would not be allowed to placed in the HOF so it wouldn't matter if someone tried to cheat by changing the end limit to get a high score...

Yeah it is kind of annoying that they deactivated the victory conditions after the forced retirement. However, if you want to see the shuttle launch, just temporarily move the opening clip and rename the space victory clip to that one. And while you are at it, do it once with the security clip.

This is how I saw the shuttle launch, as initial I did not have the movies installed and for some reason the shuttle clip would never show for me. Also this allows you to get rid of having teh game play the opening clip everytime you start (by deleting it).

Is the 2050 retirement date really a problem for some people? I have never had a game go past 1950 unless I was keeping an opponent alive to increase my score. If the ending date is a problem, it might help you out to increase the difficulty level; I can almost guarantee that someone will have built the spaceship by 1900 on Regent or above.
