#erebus: the chatroom and meetup room for all things ffh!

You know, I've been unable to connect to irc-chat for the longest time, with the strangest error message;

[15:55] * Unable to connect to server (Connection refused)

Is it possible I was banned from the server for reasons I don't understand?

IRC-Chat seems to be having some issues. It took me 31 tries to connect today. And noone seems to be in #erebus not even the usuall utterly afk idlers... meaning it probobly dropped everyone at some point. Infact it granted me @ when I entered...
(Edit: Apperently I was on one of a massive multitude of splits... Not that it helps the situation.)

Anyway... IRC-CHAT.net has been preticularly unstable this last week...

I hate to say it but prehaps we need to move servers? I tried to check what should be their website and their host is "revamping" services so I cant really figgure out whats going on even.

That said. I wouldn't know which servers are sane and stable nowadays. I haven't been into irc for nearly a decade now...

Temporary Surrogate Channel has set up camp on the SCIFI-NET irc server.

irc.scifi-fans.net 6660-6668,7000 #erebus
(Scifi-net random sevrer, in MIRC)

Its a nice stable place. That only takes one attempt to connect to. ^.^'

I suppose me and Seneth are keeping it together atm.

Edit: A little preasant from Senethro for those of ya who want to connect with web client or such
server irc.scifi-fans.net
/join #erebus

I joined up on the channel you posted there Rogue, seems empty.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and try and become an active IRC'er once a home has been found :)

I can't get that to work. It keeps redirecting me to some domain purchasing site.

So I guess we don't have a new #erebus then?

Hey guys! If you been reading the front page you would of noticed that we have moved the civfanatics chatroom to a new server! It is focused on games and has lots of room with lots of people! We are at irc.gamesurge.net

Link is also in my sig

You guys can also be in the main civfanatics channel. No need to hide from us :P

An important piece of information about that server is the anyone wanting to use it will first have to create an account on their website, here: http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/

A #erebus room has been set up there, if that's where the community decides they want the new home of #erebus to be.

You do not have to create an account on their website to connect to the irc server. Maybe to register your nickname but for most that's not neccessary.

I kept being rejected by the server with the message "Username not valid" until I registered on their site, no matter what nickname I attempted to use. Once I had a username and password I was able to connect fine with the name and password obtained through registering, and no others. I wasn't able to just type in irc.gamesurge.net as the server and connect the way I had been able to do for other servers (irc.irc-chat.net and irc.scifi-fans.net), and registering made the problems with connecting stop, so I think it is information worth having here.

If there is a secret to connecting to gamesurge without registering then perhaps someone that knows what it is could share it.

That's weird. I have never even been to that site and have no problem connecting. No idea what the secret is, I connect the same way I do to any server.

Same for me. Had no trouble getting there. Anyone else using mIRC?

k ... so does the Civfanatics hosted erebus chat work well again?

Eh, you guys should just hang out in #civfanatics, it be a lot more easy on everyone
I really don't know. Part of the #erebus flavour was that - other than you guys - we weren't asked to maintain a kid friendly environment. So cursing and stuff was just allowed and tolerated. At times even encouraged. Well, I'll leave it up to those fellow former citizens of erebus who follow this thread to either join in on 'civfanatics or start on restarting #erebus.

Opinions please!

I agree with dot ^

I would rather see a FFH specific channel set up again.

I would like to see a separate chatroom as well. Also, I've created a Hamachi Room called FFHFFA for anyone that wants to play Fall From Heaven Multiplayer.

Peace,
Bill
