Ethema is distant continent in the world of Erebus, one of the first areas Mulcarn lost infleunce over as the Age of Ice began to wane. As a result, by the dawn of the Age of Rebirth, six distinct civilizations have already emerged, the Lurchip, the Grigori, the Belseraphs, the Calabim, the Bannor and the Khazad. It was not long before tension between the nations began to rise, particularly between the 'festive' Belseraphs and the Kingdom of Bannor. Is this continent really big enough for all of them?

Ethema

- 6 civs
- small map
- pangaea
- flat world
- normal speed

Settings

- no settlers
- no city razing
- no culture flipping
- Living world
- Blessing of Amathoan
- Fol, CoE, Emp banned

Civilizations

- Bannor (Capria)
- Lurchip (Beeri Bawl)
- Calabim (Alexis)
- Belseraphs (Perpentach)
- Grigori (Cassiel)
- Khazad (Kandros Fir)

All victory conditions except for time are allowed but the main aim is to become the ruler of all of Ethema.

Basically you can choose to take control of one of the six civilizations, each one begins with cities, units and improvements already. There are also numerous barbarian controlled cities. The Order, Runes of Kilmorph, Octopus Overlords and Ashen Veil faiths already exist across the world (Note: AV doesn't have a holy city).

The map is very well balanced and each civ is able to become an Ethema super power, in the right hands of course. The map is a lot of fun to play and focuses largely on conquest. For a really great game try playing a couple of difficulty level's higher then normal with agressive ai and raging Barbarians :p. The default difficulty setting is prince but you can change that on Custom scenario.

I hope everyone has as much fun playing it as I did making it. Feel free to comment on it or offer any suggestions in this thread. Thanks.

Ok how do I use a zip? Sorry, all that files and formats business always seems to go right over my head lol.

AFAIK usually people use programs WinZip or WinRar. Many file managers like Windows Commander also can handle zip format.

I use free 7-zip and its plugin for Far Manager but maybe it is too specific.

Err... For me it is OK but better to use zip format: it is more widespread. You can compress into zip with 7-zip program but by default it use its own format 7z. To use zip you should change an "Archive format" option there.

OK I downloaded and will test meanwile.

Ok I'll add that too, later. You can tell I don't have a clue about this stuff can't you lol.

Oh also, anyone who tries this, feedback on the Calabim-Grigori would be nice. Previously the (Ai) calabim completely owned the AI grigori everytime, so I balanced things out a bit and I'm wondering if I've overkilled on it. How are the calabim doing?

I started with Capria and found that she has no holy city of order but has cities with order. That means no holy city forever. Suppose it is a bug. Maybe if you give to player religion and holy cities give tech as well.

OK no buildings, no techs, but several cities and improvements. Actually after discovering few starting techs and capturing barb cities situation becomes not different from what we can have in random game, nothing special. Scenario for those who think starting period is boring and want to go immediately to mid-game. And no flexibility is needed: Capria has all she need to go standard way (order-disciples) like incense and have no gems and reagents. So it is like random game but without surprises.

For me random game is better. :(

Hrm, I assumed that the technology for each religion would have been granted to each civilization so that they are forced to stick with what is out there. If some religions already exist, then as soon as the tech to found it is discovered you will get a pop-up offering for you to found any religion which has not yet been created. I think it bugs out if no religions are available.

By granting each religion (including those not intended to exist in the mod at all) you block the ability to get the free disciple for the tech, and keep from having them found a religion that you do not want in the scenario.

Hmmm, Torrolerial is supposed to be the Order Holy City. Don't know why its not. I did orinially give them the techs of their religions but I removed them later on. The civs are not supposed to be forced to stick with the same religion, although I didn't know you could just give them all the techs to avoid them founding them, the religions I didn't want I just banned, doesn't that work to the same effect? . I liked the scenario because of the no city razing/settlers thing mostly, but then I wouldn't expect that to be to everybody's taste. Afterall I made it for my own enjoyment, I only uploaded it as an afterthought.

If the Bannor don't have incense then that's just a bug, same with the Holy city.

I gave it a whirl. It seems pretty good so far.

I am playing the Bannor. I am about 280 turns into it.

Like the previous post said, there is no Holy City for Order. I "cheated" by going into world builder and created a holy city. I didn't do this until I discovered Orders from Heaven tech, and it did not found the religion.

A couple of times I got the popup that appears when the Bannor are defeated even though I am still clearly in the game. There is a screen shot attached.

Here is a short account of my struggles so far:

Spoiler :

I started the game by taking the barbarian cities at the four corners of my borders. Having 7 cities very early got me off to a quick start. I researched a few resource techs and then went for Education so that I could run City States to support all my cities.

Orthus popped up near my borders and attacked one of my cities. I was able to counterattack the weakened barbarian orc chief and take his Axe.

I built the Great Library in my city on the river. The extra happiness from the Brewery allowed me to run a couple of extra sage specialists to get my GP rolling. I got Academies in several of my cities before switching over to priest specialists.

I built the Altar of Luonnatar in my Capitol. I am up to about stage IV now. I crank out Confessors with exp to eventually become my High Priests and Inquisators.

I beelined through iron working relatively early and started to build units to declare war on the Balseraphs to the west. Just as I was ready to go to war, the Khazaad to my north declared war on me. It took time to redeploy my troops, and I lost a couple of the barbarian cities that I had captured. The Order Hero (Vhalin?) really helped to turn the tide of the war. Having Mobility II, Commando, and Orthus Axe allowed him to pound through several dwarven defenders every turn.

After taking all of the Khazad cities, I returned to peace and regrouped while building infrastructure. They had not built the RoK shrine yet, so I sent a Great Prophet to found it. I then built the Bazaar and all the money generating buildings along with it in the former Khazad capitol. That city now supports my entire economy.

It is now about turn 280. I have decent sized stacks in my three border cities. I am finally preparing to go to war with the Balseraphs. Unfortunately, it is time to go to work, so I am saving the game to finish later.

Thanks for taking the time to put together a scenario. It has been a fun adventure.

Hmm thats strange, I don't think that is the message you get when the Bannor are destroyed. But if it hasn't actually affected the game all I can suggest is to ignore it. I'll upload an updated version with the Order Holy City in as soon as I can. Thanks for the compliment.

kk I'll upload a zip as soon as I can with the bugs fixed, can't do it on this pc.

I don't know where that message came from though lol.

I culture flipped a barbarian city as the Belseraphs (creative). Are they supposed to be included in the "no culture flipping" rule?
