Do Eureka boosts immediately give you 50% of the science cost of that tech OR does it simply get you to 50% research completed?

In other words, if I am researching tech X and already have 20% of the cost paid through my science output and then I get a Eureka boost for that tech, do I jump to 50% or 70% of completed research for tech X?

Thanks in advance for the answer! :)

You jump 50 percentage points. In one of the videos (I think the polygon one, but I'm sure others as well) the user has several turns left of research, but then completes the eureka and unlocks the tech immediately - you don't even have to wait for the next turn.

do we know if there's overflow yet? Like if we're at 70% and get the Eureka, does the extra 20% carry over to the next tech?

I believe I heard Filthy said that Eurekas do not cause overflow. It is uncertain whether yields in general do or do not.

I hope there is overflow I hate lost beakers.

As long as regular research overflows, I'd be OK with Eurekas not overflowing (otherwise you want to get to 90% before triggering the Eureka)

Having overflow would lead to weird delaying of a research at 95 percent while waiting for the eureka to complete.
Cuz you dont get any eureka bonus after the tech is complete.

Though I will say the eureka system itself already encourages delaying research till youve achieved the eureka. Otherwise youre kinda wasting science points sometimes.

A major difference is that the overflow will not reflect the tech that youre supposed to bonus from. For example i could then apply an overflow from sailing (building coastal city) to iron working or something.

Well, then do a better job at planning ahead next time. ;)

I very much agree with qwerty25s arguments.
