European Middle Ages Mod Resurrection

Amazing work on those lists, simply amazing.:goodjob:

@Broken Hawk, Drtad & Head Serf: thank you so much for the praise! :) But, please, if you see any holes, let me know.

@Head Serf: I didn't read that post, but don't worry - I set up a spreadsheet to compile the list - it has Great Person type, Nationality, Name, and Life Span. I figured I would send it to you when the Great People list is complete!

@Everybody - Any thoughts on the Great Artist suggestions?

-Laina

The Great Artists are okay, but it's the merchants that I worry about. I don't know the names of any Great Merchants of the Medieval Period, and 22 doesn't seem to cover all of the nationalities.

I like your new idea for the Great Artists, lshockley. I'll make some more comments and stuff tomorrow, right now I'm getting ready to release 0.5. It should be up sometime tomorrow morning, unless 3ddownloads takes longer than expected to get my file up.

So, Head Serf, you already added all of the new Great People names? Or is this release without them.

I've worked on the Great People list some more:

Great Engineers have been added - mainly architects, and a few inventors. 32 names - 7th c. to 16th c. I was getting nowhere until I discovered that medieval architects are more generally known as master builders and master masons.

Great Saints have been diversified - a second look at all those canonized saints made me realize I had neglected all the other religions out there. Now there are 56 saints - maybe too many, but they are a pretty diverse bunch!

Great Merchants have idled - I found a few new Great Merchants, but reclassed some inventors to Great Engineers. New count: 23. [@Craig Sutter: I looked up Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson - they sound more like settlers than traders, but they're definitely not nobles. They are now merchants!]

Great Nobles, Great Scholars, and Great Artists have grown - I met some interesting non-European figures while researching diversified Saints and Great Engineers.

Finally, anybody born before 500 has been deleted to maintain accuracy given the "[Great Person] has been born in [Kingdom]" message.

I wanted to attach the spreadsheet, but apparently, .xls files are prohibited. Anybody know a work-arounds to attach an .xls? Here is a .pdf instead. I can email the .xls to anybody who's interested - let me know.

Any editions are welcome! -Laina

EDIT: 12.19a - I forgot to mention that I reviewed the mod and vanilla .xml and incorporated great people names as appropriate. Many were dupes, I should of thought to start there. D'oh!

@Head Serf: If you haven't added the great people names to the .xml, I'd like to volunteer to put them into <UniqueName> format. I wanted to set up the accented letters for utf-8.

Very nice work. I went throughit and found one little tiny error. You put Yusuf ibn Ab'il-Saj as an Armenian Lord. He was in fact an emir of Azerbaijan who invaded Armenia. So he is Middle Eastern.

Why don't you try Filefront? They are a lot faster than 3DDownloads anyway.

I'm new here and have encountered a problem when trying to play the mod. Everything seems to load up fine, except the tech tree, which makes it difficult to play. Any ideas?

Hello Xan!

Would you be so kind as to provide a more detailed description of the problem? That will help the mod-makers here discover the solution. It sounds like you are able to load and play the mod. Does the tech tree work at all? Where or when is it breaking down? And, what do you see on the screen?

I haven't noticed that complaint from anybody else, but, I haven't been working on this mod for very long! I'm sure one of the senior modders here can help.

Also, a new version of the mod is being released shortly, v. 0.5. Check back again soon for new and improved medieval game play!

Welcome to the boards! :) -Laina

For whatever reason, I cannot upload the stupid file to the stupid 3ddownloads site.

I was wondering if anyone would like to take the file and upload it somewhere and then give me the link afterwards?

If you can, (and those willing to do it will obviously get the file earlier than everyone else :)) just send me a PM with your email (I can't upload a file this big to civfanatics).

Here is the gist of the problem. First of all when the game is loading up, I just get tons of errors (which take a long time to get through) and most of them are telling me that some tech file won't load. I noticed that Head Serf mentioned to click through the error at the beginning, but these were excessive.

But after all the clicking, the mod seemed to load just fine until I tried to build something. I had all the choices as though I had discovered all the techs, so I decided to look at the tech tree. When I opened it, there was nothing there.

So that's the story.

Download the new version. It sounds like you got a corrupt download.
