European Middle Ages Mod Resurrection

Someone gave the download 0 stars and now it says it's only a two star average. :( I'm not saying to necassarily dishonestly boost it, but it would be nice if the stars didn't make the mod look so bad.

Pardon me for saying this, but part of the reason why your mod is getting such low ratings is perhaps because it does not seem to work. I've downloaded and run other mods/scenarios without any trouble. But then I just tried loading this medieval european mod, and it bombed. I'm not a computer technician, I don't understand the details of all that fancy stuff about mods and whatnot -- nor do I care to. All I want is to download the material and launch it without technical hassles. It works... or it does not. In the latter case, I simply delete the download and return to give some feedback. Obviously, you just got my "one-star" vote. Meanwhile I just wasted my time trying out your mod. Sorry dude.

No need to be rude Ambreville. The mod work fine on other people's computers so you may be doing something wrong maybe? Are you using Warlords? because this mod is only for Vanilla at the moment. I still see no need for the one-star rating.

I've been laying off on the stars because I thought I'd wait for the mod to be more complete... I don't want to rate it until it's in a more finished form.

I've never had trouble loading the mod, so I don't understand that concern. One thing that may be causing trouble is that the mod path is not listed in the WBS file of the map included with the mod. So double clicking on the map file to start a game fails to start the mod. Otherwise, I think some people just don't get how to install a mod, or understand the file structure. It may be the unzip process where the mod file that should be put in the mod directory is actually a sub-folder of the unzipped folder (if you understand what I mean).

Anyhow, I really like the direction of this mod, and look forward to further developments.

As for Civs, these are some additional ones I'd like to see...

Irish
Saxons
Normans
Anglo-Saxons (as opposed to English)
Welsh/Cymri
Scottish
Portuguese (certainly, during some period, it was part of Spanish sphere, but it also acted independantly)
Late Roman Empire (for those of us with scenarios very early in the period... would include Britons, Gaul and other late Roman remnants). Equestrians to replace Vassal, and Legion Auxiliary to replace Swordsman.

The Viking civ can cover Denmark, Norway, and maybe Sweden, I suppose, so long as there are 3 leaders to give a bit of choice as to leader traits.

I include Anglo-Saxons, because I think they differ from English... the latter, to me, ought to be the Norman English, post conquest, while the former would be a totally different type of civ. Their UU's ought to be different... English would have Longbow(replacing Composite Archer) and perhaps, Privateer (replacing Caravel). The Anglo-saxons would have Fyrdsman (replacing Spearman) and Thegn (replacing Vassal).

Just a few ideas. And I acknowledge a bit of selfishness in these requests as their inclusion would definetely benefit my area of interest as far as scenario making goes.

I wouldn't call that being "rude" per se. If I were you'd know it.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe not, but then again I've got no way to know (and, no, I'm not using Warlords). What irks me is that I've had no problem with mods downloaded from other threads. So why this one doesn't seem to work, I have no idea. My point was this sort of problem should not occur if the set up was correct in the first place.

Did you try loading the map before you loaded the mod? This is a problem because for this map to work you should load the mod first and then choose the map.

Your not working to make this into a warlords scenario..?
Btw, good that you picked up this when oskar left it.

I believe that after the Vanilla version is sort of complete Stellan, then Head Serf can convert it to Warlords.

I will be away from my computer until next sunday or monday because I will be with my family over Thanksgiving. I may be able to use the computer occasionally, but I will be completely unable to do anything with the files. If you guys could come up with a more definite civ list I'd be very thankful. Here are a few civs I'd like to add.
+Arabia
+Berbers
+Franks? (Or at least Frankish leaders and an early French UU)
+Persia (Sassanid Empire that fought with the Byzantines until about 580 BC)
+Slavs

Uhmm... I have a noob question but please answer it, where do you unzip the music file? or what address do u copy the sounds fie too? just tell me lol

And why would Franks be in the mod since the French are already in it

Extract the music file to Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\ Mods\European Middle Ages (this mod folder)\Assets\ just extract it to the Assets folder and the sounds will work. Of course this won't matter if you don't play with sound.

Wouldn't it be strange to add the franks? im pretty sure they disapeared in 700 ad, and were split into France and Germany ? Unless a very weak Frankish kingdom starts out as master for Germany and France and for some reason loses control over these two within time, i actually don't know why the Frankish empire fell...

I also dislike adding a civilization called the Slavs, Slavs are a collective name for a bunch of different peoples that apeared after the mongols withdrew?

It was a long time since i played this mod so im not sure wich civilizations are in it, but if "Slavic countries" should be added why not add Bohemia and Great Moravia.

And is the Lombards in the mod? if not im pretty sure they would fit in perfectly as a minor civ.

I wrote some citylists for Oskar and i would be glad if i were able to help you with anything that doesn't involve any complicated code writing things...

Well i better play the current version of the mod so i don't make any useless remarks...

I just started playing it, i see that there is no marsh terrain, instead there is jungle... could'nt you ask Rhye if you can borrow his marsh graphics?

I agree but it should be Bohemia (about 873-1526) or Great Moravia(833-906, 888 area Bohemia included).

With the map being so small at this point, we should wait until Head Serf finds a bigger map, because right now, the map is crowded enough. (Unfortunately)

Perhaps i have to agree with you regarding this scenario, but it could be usefull to have both for later use in other scenarios based on this mod. (Reply to REDY)
