Eurozone PBEM anyone?

That was quick.
Maybe you can squeeze in one more? :D
GMT +2 and don't say I am not reliable :)

Traks and Dick - we already have 8 players, however if I don't get Calanthian and Michkov's email by tonight I will put you in instead (I'm ruthless like that!).

Hemispheres is similar to continents but has more interesting maps I believe.

I'll be playing as Kublai Khan of the Mongols.

I will be:

leader name: Bilgee Naranbaatar, the sun hero
civilization name: The White Wolves
short: Olonbulag
civ adjective: Olonbulian
GMT +1

My normal time slots are in the morning at 7.00 and in the evening between 20 and 24 hrs.

OK, I need your email though ;)

For the first turn I'll use your CFC user name but you can change it later - this makes it easier for players to know who to send the turn to on the first turn.

EDIT: Got Calanthian's email, just waiting for Michkov now.

Traks is on standby as a first come, first served basis if Michkov doesn't get back to me by tonight.

No advanced start is fine with me; but this is nonsense..

Advanced only makes it possible to build 2 units per city (excluding workers). It is clear for me that there are a lot of misconceptions on advanced start.
Another one is concerning not allowing selecting religious techs > the advanced start mechanics take care of that..

But hey, as I said: no advanced start is fine with me..

I remember the thing about only 2 units per city.

However, I did not know about the selecting religious techs block - how does that work exactly - (or what happens if you try to choose mysticism or meditation ?)

On advanced start - and religions:

However, I did not know about the selecting religious techs block - how does that work exactly - (or what happens if you try to choose mysticism or meditation ?)

what actually happens is that FIRST all players setup,
AFTER THAT is decided who is the founder of which religion

So if 6 people have buddism tech, all have 16,6% chance to be the founder.
So if you discover buddism, hinduism and monotheism you have roughly 50% chance to be a founder of a religion (when playing with 6 players).

(just test it with AI players and you'll see)

Well the plan is we play fast for the first few turns so everything should be hunky dory without an advanced start.

I'm thinking a large map to get a bit of expansion room or we could play a normal map and have a bit of a crunch.

No-one has expressed a preference for events yet so they are on at the moment.

We had to play with 8 players. I think that 2 more persons is not a problem if we only write times of making turns and we will make them on time.

I vote huge map, events on, raging barbs.

Huge is too big... not enough excitement in the first turns.

I'm ok with raging barbs, if we play noble.

I think that large map is enough. On huge, game will last very long but if more players will choose it I will agree.

8 is enough - 10 will make it too slow for the quick turnaround I hope we get for this game.

I'm not a fan of unrestricted leaders.

3 votes for raging barbs though.

more barbs to kill for promotions. No bigger than large with 8. 8 civs on normal size so large will give plenty expansion room. I'm happy to go random.

OK we have voted for raging barbs/large map then.

Remember, a large map means you need 7 (not 6) buildings for national wonders (doesn't affect number of temples for a cathedral).

I looked at the hemispheres map:

one disadvantage of a hemisheres, normal, 2 continents, map is:
* with 8 players there will be 4 players per continent
* of these four there will always be one in the middle
* this will lead to 'get the middle guy' and a less interesting game.

With hemispheres snaky maps that disadvantage is a lot smaller. As there are more geographical features and a more interesting map.
Add some normal size islands too and then sea power gets to be more interesting..

(check it out with the worldbuilder)
