Ever Name Your Own Cities?

Germany has only a very short list of 16 cities, and their leaders and one city (Heidelburg -> Heidelberg) are spelled wrong. Most civs have over 32 cities in the list.

Yes, you`re right, you can type other names, when you run out of "civ included names") but at least you have your nation in the game. I can only dream about Czech nation in civ... Sounds funny, right? Hey, remember we vere big EURO power at midages! Dammit it`s 700 years ago.
Once I reaname I guess Aztec as Czech and I renamed all the cities, I thing I should caught some patriotic flu! :D Never did it again. I hope Czechs would be in civ4, as other slavic nation. I`m sick of Russians :vomit:, sorry Catharine!

I play as Germany (which as stated previously, seems to have a very short list). My Name is always Werner von Braun and my capitol is always Huntsville (see my location). Berlin is almost always my second city (normally I build the Great Wall there :) ). I try to wait until I find a city with Incence and name it Cologne. If I find a lot of Gold or Fish/Whales I name those cities Fort Knox and Fish Farm respectively. If there is a lot of cattle the city name is Hamburger, Sugar it is either Sugar Pill or Plecebo, and Tobbacco is Wacky Baccy. Also, when I get to the New <City Name> cities I normally go with Ol' <City Name> and Ober <City Name> then New <City Name> so I normally don't make it to <City Name> 2, New <City Name> 2, or <City Name> 3 any more.

If Im playing as America, and I capture a city, I'll usually give it an american city name....but thats usually the only time I change cities

Yeah if I'm America and I get to "New----" then I'll put down bigger cities that aren't there i.e. Charlotte, Newark, etc.

In my solo games, the only renaming I do is to put FP or MA or something similar in front of the city they are built in for easy reference.

In SG's however, it's quite common to rename cities. Reasons include, but are not limited to:
Easier reference in turn logs (incense city, iron hill, etc)
A little "honor" for another player
To put my indelible mark on the game (Yankees suck, etc.) :D
Referencing previous events (Aztecs demise, etc.)

i never really change the name its not really anything special. but one time i named my capital FudgeMcWangaWanga, other city Chocowawa. what can i say i'm a lunatic.

I often change names of cities I acquire from my neighbours. Like if I'm Germany and an English city flips to me I Germanize the name a bit, to represent the German name of the city, as it is known to the German speaking minority in the area or whatever. Kinda fun! :goodjob:

Didn't you say in an earlier thread that you named your cities after Red Sox players?

This topic sounds familiar.

I add a '01_', '02_','03_',... to my cities to get the alpha sort to be useful, since I build in rings first.

I tried naming cities after (Cleveland) Indians players one game but had to resort to using coaches, front office, and minor leaguers too. Would have been easier later in the season when the roster is expanded.

When the city list is at it's end, I look up names from the atlas for towns in that region. I also ususally give the Mayans more european sounding names because I really don't like the defaults.

i rarely do, but if for say I build a city on spices, I might name that city : City of Spices or something like that

i only name cities when i get to bilding Rome2 or Berlin2. Then my next choice is something like Military Stronghold and Death to all Aztecs. That sort of thing.

Before anyone takes offense to my post, let me state the following: I have Canadian-British citizenship (yes, I have 2 passports), and I'm moving to Florida with my American girlfriend at the end of September. I have afro-american friends, chinese friends, and a friend from New Delhi in India - point being I AM NOT RACIST !!!

I play as a variety of Civs, and all opposing civs are hated equally and very intensely. This is easy to do since I win 95% of my games by domination/conquest victory. Here is an example list of city names I choose once CAPTURED from my enemy - I do not rename my own cities.

Moderator Action: City names removed. No nationality bashing, of which quite a few of those city names are. Warned.

I have more but I don't have time to type them all out. Every Civ gets SlaveTown, because after I build a temple to shut them up, I start popping out slaves to work the railroads and plant/chop forest for me. In the game of Civ, my enemy one game is who I play as the next game, and I don't hate any Civ in particular, I hate them all EQUALLY !

Just imagine when someone put profanity words as their own city names just for fun, they might get so sued when posted on the forum screenshot.

I've only renamed my cities a couple of times, and this is when I stupidly leave a city undefended somewhere and I see that an enemy is about to walk in and take it and there is nothing I can do. I think the two names I've use are Crapton and Stenchville.
