From the files of the unbelievable comes Sony Online Entertainment’s "continuing commitment to provide EverQuest players with the finest gaming experience on the web" to your rescue. They will now change up to 8 character names for you, for the modest fee of 50 dollars. But wait, there is more!! More stipulations that is. I suggest that you go to the official site and read the rules to get the full scoop of poop: Sonyhttps://store.station.sony.com/eq_char_renames/

Yeah, read that awhile ago. But considering the amt of effort, time etc ppl spent on building up their online avatars, I'd bet many are willing to pay the price.

Yeah, I still feel that Sony OE is a set of completely greedy bastards.

I like rule entry #2 for names you may NOT choose:
Combinations of words that produce an offensive result (e.g. Hugeaz, Tug Mcgroin).

How about Seymor Butts? ;)

All money-making corporations are bastards. :D It's the rule. ;) Their sole reason for existense is to make money.... out of consumers like you and me. Worst are those you cannot opt out of. Like for power or your local tele.

hey you might offend someone by the er.......truth  I bet there might be many people here in a corporation, mabey even some head corprete guys.
how about Ivana Tinkle?

my favorite part it this little saying
SOE reserves the right to reject any request, in full or in part, and any requested name -- for any reason or no reason

I never liked Sony, but this is really the stupidest thing I've ever seen. And I though ppl who buy D2 Unique Items on ebay are nuts ;)

I've read that people actually bought whole accounts, loot, gold and so on in that Ultima online game. Paid a couple of thousand bucks to the original player.

And Kefka, I myself work for a corporation. ;) Listed corps are answerable to shareholders, not consumers. Sucks but true.

but thats so greedy!whats next?pay to play that game,oh wait that already exists......:(:(:(
games should never be made by greedy bastards but by creative minds who care about games

Well they didn't have to allow people to change their names. Its actually a great function in a way. It stops people from changing their name everyday unless they are very rich, which is a good thing because players changing their names can be annoying. Also if you attacked some people, they might want revenge, but if you had changed your name then it would be virtually impossible for them to find who you are in the game.

yea so its Kinda like the witness relocation program. :goodjob:

Good points Dell19.
50 bucks is still a lot of money. Hell, Simon wouldn't charge that much for his monkeys to do it! :)

Its alot but thats to stop people from changing their name for the sake of it...and you can always create a new player, I think.

Boohoo. A company is making money by charging a price for fulfilling a demand. Don't blame the company. If you have to 'blame' anyone, try the consumers. It is a decent enough percentage of you lot who will actually pay $50 to change your name that make this a reality. I think those people are idiots, but more power to anyone who can convince them to part with their money without breaking any laws or ethics.

Why should games be a special area where profit seeking people should stay away? It takes a lot of money to make a game and get it on the shelf of your local software store. The people that put up that money want a return on their investment, same as you do when you put your money in anything from the bank, a government bond, a mutual fund, or a share of stock. They want as much return as they can get for the risk they are taking with their money. That's the way the system works.

Thank you for telling me things I already know. I just feel that the price they are charging is just a little bit high. But sorry for expressing my opinion on the matter.

Sorry, that did come off a little rantish, didn't it? :o I wasn't really aiming it directly at you though. :)

OK :) I was also ranting about the price on my part. No offense taken. :D Sorry for being sarcastic.

Ok, Group HUG!!! ;)

No, not that!! I thought that was firmly stuck in OT. I don't want to think of it migrating. ;)
