So I am not very good at the game but it is fun enough to kind of just dumb luck my way through, and I am in the middle of a game and all hell has broken lose. About 4 centuries ago the Zulu tried to punk me for some tech, I refused, they declare, big deal I thought because they are on the opposite continent. Soon enough they bribed the whole continent against me, and so I gave them some cash for peace, unfortunately no one else will talk to me. Now about every 2 turns someone else will go to war with me and I am against pretty much everyone and whenever I sue for peace some other civ will just get everyone against me. I think a lot of this is because I raised like 8 cities in the very beginning of the game. Is it pretty much game over for me?

I honestly don't even know how to do that, looked in file and didnt see saves folder.

Click on 'Go Advanced', then 'Manage Attachments', then 'Browse'. You'll then need to find where you have your saves on your computer

Usually for me they are located under Program Files/Firaxis Games/Civ III Complete/Conquests/Saves. That is the default location. I have it on a vista laptop, but it is still there because I run the game as administrator so I can use CAII. If you don't have that option turned on and are on Vista/7, then when you get to the folder named "conquests," look for a little button on top titled "Compatibility Files." Also, if you run the game from Steam, it will be under a steam directory from Program Files, and if you operate an x64 based system, it will be under "Program Files (x86)." Finally, Firaxis Games may be replaced with Infogrames Interactive, so keep an eye out for both.

Without seeing a save - general thoughts:

If they are taking a long time to get to you - that is, before rails - then you can fight an effective defensive war pretty easy. The AI will send their units as they are available, and that means defeat in detail. Fish for leaders if you can, build armys to plug holes, place defensive units (don't get carried away) on key terrain such as mountains and hills to channel the AI into a killing field (nice flat plains with no trees and no rivers).

When the time is right, expand. If you are still taking cities, then the AI does not have the initiative. Keep building. Eventually they will ask for peace or you can bribe them. If there's anyone not at war with you, try to bribe them into attacking another AI. It may kill them but it will temporarily take the heat off you (just be careful you don't make a monster out of one of the AI Civs).

At higher levels the units will come quicker and in larger groups, so it can be harder. At lower levels it is possible to fight off the entire world as a nice diversion from building the next wonder.

Yeah I figure I have to just hold them off. Can't find the saves file, not in my Civ III file, could it be I installed the minimum?

In the game, when you click to load a game, can you go in and out of the Autosaves folder?

If so, can you go up another level from saves? That might give you a clue about where the saves folder is.

Yes you can do that. I noticed that one day.

Look for a Conquests file in your Civ3 folder. The saves folder for Conquests should be in the Conquest folder.

The Civ game itself might be listed in a folder named 2K Games, instead of Firaxis or Infogames. I bought Civ3 Complete off Impulse recently and that is where my Civ3 game is now in the Program Files. I used a default installation.

When a game developed like that for me when I was new, I simply dumped the game and started a new one. Then I decided enough with this, and went over to the Dark Side, buying a Windows box to edit the games that I play in my Mac.

I see no point in beating one's head against the wall. I play the game for fun. If a game turns into no fun, I dump the game.

Yah, but... getting my civilization stomped can be a little fun, too, sometimes. Just treat it like a Bruckheimer movie.

What kind of sick monster are you!

I think that picking up a game and turning it around can be a lot of fun. I pick up a lot of my 10 year old son's games and try to 'rescue' them. It can be interesting and rewarding. And frustrating at times. But they tend to be good learning models.

You need to sign yourself upto some turn based peace deals, either gold per turn or luxuries in exchange for the peace deal that way for 20 turns your unlikely that they will declare war on you again.

Also sign any neutral you can upto a Mutual Protection Pact.

MPPs are bad. They drag you into wars you may not want (and force *you* to do the declaring).

Actually, it seems to me that the way to get the AI to be friendly and not attack you is to have a "right of passage" agreement.

The AI really likes agreeing to those and they won't attack you if they have a ROP agreement.

MPP's are a fast-track to getting sucked into a war you don't want.
