EX I Succession Game - Alexander of the Greeks

Well, I turned out not to have nearly enough time to do this, so I am passing until next go-round. I need to learn how to zip files before then; could one of you explain that process to me? Sorry, but I know I'll have more time next week.

Well, if you have Windows XPthen it is built into the operating system. Just right click on the save file in Explorer, select menu 'Send To' and then 'Zipped Folder'

Otherwise you have to use WinZip, which I think can be downloaded from the internet, just search for it.

Hope you can play next time!

Ok, back to the game starter - Exsanguination.

I might get to play tonight.

sorry lkendter, im not passing this turn! I can't play tonight but I will finish my 20 tomorrow afternoon.

mardoc- if ye dont have xp, download WINZIP off windows.com or CNET downloads probably has it (download.com). Just double click the file, then click 'extract'.

sorry bout the delay, but i got homework and other stuff to do

To zip a file, start winzip, and create a new zip file. It will allow you to select the files you wish to zip. To unzip, double click the zip file and select extract.

With Winzip, there's probably an option when you right-click an unzipped file to create a .zip file with the same name as the file you're compressing.

Example: I want to zip up a save "LK8 France 1050 AD.sav" to post. I go to the folder I have the file saved in, right click and choose "Add to c:\...\LK8 France 1050 AD.zip", and, as the French say, voila!

after almost 2000 years, the Great ExSang rises to power in the Greek empire...

550 BC - zzz....

530 BC - Code of Laws is mastered. Mathematics is researched (8 turns). The load of workers left behind begin many extensive roading projects.

510 BC - An Illyurian warrior attacks our people. He is quickly distinguished. The great town of Sparta finishes its library, and begins training a hoplite.

490 BC - zzz...

430 BC - Sparta starts training another hoplite to reinforce the weakly defended Delphi and Athens.

390 BC - Our gallant warriors disperse an Estruscan encampment.

370 BC - A large Gaul encampment is dispersed. Sparta finishes its hoplite, and begins building a barracks to pump out veteran hoplites. Mathematics is researched, and our sooth-sayers begin studying the Republic. They estimate 21 turns before completion.

350 BC - Athens goes into corruption. Accordingly, luxuries are raised to 10%, putting our treasury into a 2 gold deficit each turn. No problem, we have enough gold.

310 BC - A Phrygian encampment is burned to the ground. OUR SETTLER IS KILLED!!! That warrior was supposed to escort the fragile settler, I wonder what happened. THE BARBS MUST DIE!!!!

270 BC - Thermopylae finishes its temple, and promptly begins a settler.

250 BC - Corinth in corruption due to lack of police. This is quickly changed. Our diplomats report that the English have finished the Oracle

230 BC - Corinth finishes its temple, and also begins a settler.

210 BC - Our hoplite in thermopylae is murdered, and filthy barbs kill our trainee settler. We begin re-training a fresh recruit.

170 BC - Sparta finishes its settler, one turn until it grows again so I order another settler to be trained.

150 BC - The great ExSang is found missing, much to the Greeks' dismay!

Notes:

- 8 turns to repulic and 15 to Great Library. Revolt when we finish the Library
-As you can tell, I am building lots of settlers (3 in prod, one in the field). EXPAND!!!! LKendter - the current settler is meant for a coastal city - near the spices, nice next to the horses. This will be our Colossus city. The others your choice.
-there is a barb camp to our north. it MUST be destroyed - those barbs murdered our settler.
- I have our workers doing many things, mostly connecting all our cities and to-be city locales. One is making a road to Txlaxocococopanalwhatever... so we have trade w/ the Aztecs.

Our 2 biggest problems:

1) Lack of communications. Get a galley up to that land mass pronto.

2) Barbs. They're everywhere, keep three or four warriors out there to get rid of them and guard settlers (and workers) with your life!!!

Here's a pic:

The white dots represent possible city positions, the red arrows point to possible barb camps.

What level were the barbs set to? I can't believe how many we have had.

 Isn't that the 2nd settler lost? ALL settlers must be escorted from know on!

Pre-move
I change Sparta to Hoplite. We can't afford to keep commiting suicide with our settlers.

130 BC - Kill a barb camp. Stop the settler from moving until escorted.

90 BC - Change mined plain  to irragation.

50 BC - Sell our territory map to Aztecs for $11, followed by Code of Laws for World Map and $135. How frelling many barbs are there? 2 more camps spotted. Crack the whip in Cornith for Barracks and Delphi for temple.

30 BC - Disperse another barb camp in what is feeling like an futile effort.

10 BC - An Aztec settler coming our way :( Delphi on the road net. Dyes on the road net. Yet again - disperse a barb camp. Pharslos is formed - Galley, followed by temple ordered. Knossos formed - we are slowly getting toward the dyes - temple ordered.

10 AD - Time reverses direction.

30 AD - We gamble on an early Republic. GACK - 4 turns of anarchy.

50 AD - Argos is formed.

70 AD - I had a bad feeling - Aztec city real close to us.

110 AD - We make it to Republic. The luxuries pay off, and no increase in the luxury rate. Science rate dropped a lot to run a small surplus.

130 AD - We disperse two barb camps, but we can't get those hoplites promoted to vet.

170 AD - Another round of barb camp killing.

210 AD - First contact - the Zulus. They have more tech the us. We trade - Contact with Aztecs for Construction, $4. I **refuse** to give them world map, so I can't get English / German contact. The last thing we need are the Zulus settling our continent.

Summary - Greece gained several cities with no dead settlers during my reign. Concentrate the settlers near Zululand - The Aztecs may have given them a good world map.

ALL settlers must be escorted from now on! We have way to few cities for this time in the game!

Sprata can produce a hoplite every 3 turns - keep it in military mode Our military sucks, one city building military won't hurt us that bad.

Up next - Brian J

250 AD
In a bloodless coup, Brian the Greek takes control of the empire.

260 AD
The Great Library is competed! Brian the Greek is concerned about the level of barbarian activity and so plans a Great Wall to protect our empire! We get word that the Zulus are also building a Great Wall.

Our hoplite destroys a Barbarian horseman

270 AD
The Aztecs demand Philosophy! We hand it over. I dont want a war at this point!

We discover Poytheism! The Greek people pray to the Gods for revenge against the Aztecs! Our Prophets research Currency for trade. The only other option is Monarchy which we dont need.
Oh no! The Zulus complete the Great Wall! They must have started it in a city which had already started the Great Library! Athens is switched to Library.

280 AD
Mycenae built at the edge of the desert. Next to a floodplain with wheat on it! Its going to grow Very fast! Baby factory there.. Our galley brought back to our coast. There was no way of keeping to coast squares on the other continent without annoying the Zulus. I've found it is best not to annoy the Zulus too early ;)

290 AD:
Illurian Barb camp destroyed. Another found.

300 AD
Our warrior fights off a barbarian horse and becomes Veteran! Athens starts a Horseman. We need some military. Sparta starts an aqueduct. With Athens producing military, Sparta can take a break.
Herakleia is built near the Spices! Yet another barb hut is destroyed. We are bleeding money, but our treasury is growing thanks to the barbs! :)

310 AD
Brian the Greek is puzzled. Someone irrigated a square which does not fall within any city limits!?
Ephesus built! Rushed a temple in Pharsalos. Brian the Greek grows impatient!

320 AD
Contact the Germans! We trade contact with the Germans to Aztecs for 70 gold (The Aztec were richer)

330 AD
Defeat another barbarian.

340 AD
More of the same

350 AD
Moving settlers and workers. Brain takes a nap.

360 AD
Brian the Greek rolls around in all the shiny coins from the Wise-men. Instructs them to research Feudalism. The Greek empire enters a new Age! Our wise men put on funny purple hats. Germany has a higher score in the Histograph! Uh oh.. but Greece is second.

Our Sooth-Sayers discover that there is but one all powerful God! All Greece rejoices at this discovery!
The Greek people expand the palace in celebration!

In other news, we hear about a massive barbarian uprising near Herakleia!

370 AD
Athens culture expands! The People rejoice! Our palace is expanded yet again! A huge mass of Barbarians is in the mountains north-west of Mycenae! Another horde is near Ephesus! 16 divisions i each stack! Another near Heraklae! This will be interesting!

380 AD
"Consul!" a courier shouted at Brian. Brian turns in surprise at the impertinence. "Sir, news both foul and fair!" The man gasps for air.

"Well then, what is it?" Brian asks.

The courier proceeds to tell Brian of the heroic stands in three parts of the empire. The first, near Heraklae went poorly. The towns lone defender, a Hoplite, stood against a horde of 16 barbarians. "Sir, it was awesome! Our men fought off 11 divisions of Barbarian horsemen! Promoted 2 times before finally falling!" He stops and says with downcast eyes, "The treasury lost about 200 gold to 5 remaining barbarian divisions, sir." Brian scowled. "And the others? You mentioned 3 groups?"

"Yes sir," the man stammered. "Ephesus was also attacked! Our defender this time fought off all 16 Barbarians! Our roving troops were also nearby but the barbarians ignored them and went for the town, to no avail!"

"Excellent! " Brian exclaimed, "And the third?"

"The third group was surrounded sir, by 3 of our finest troops. 2 elite warriors and an elite Hoplite. The warriors were fortified in the mountains northeast of Mycenae. The forst warrior to come under attack fought off 10 of the Horsemen before falling! The second fought off at least 3 more before falling, sir!"

Brian smiled at this news of his valiant warriors, then frowned. "Does this mean there are still at least 2 horsemen of this second group still out there?"

"Yes sir, but we have 2 hoplite troops in the field to intersept them. Plus we are in position to destroy two of the barbarian camps which spawned these hordes!"

"Excellent! Inform my generals to carry on! And get protection up to Heraklae!"

"Yes Sir!" the courier snapped to attention before speeding off.

Brian then reviewed other reports:
Thessalonica is founded. A Hoplite is rushed in Heraklae.

390 AD
One more barbarian sacks Heraklae! Destroys Hoplite in training. (Lesson learned: dont rush anything with a barbarian at the gates! wasted 48 gold )

On a better note: Atzcapotzalco overthrows its oppressors and joins the mighty Greek empire! Both barbarian camps are destroyed. The remainin horde in the north-west is spotted heading towards Argos.

(15) 400 AD
The remaining horde of 6 barb Horsies was defeated by a roaming Hoplite moved to intercept!
Our galley meets the English in a small town at the northern most tip of Germany. They have nothing to trade.

410 AD
More barbarian hus found, a Horseman sent to herakalae spots one, another spotted by the surviving Hoplite of the 3rd barbarian wave.

420 AD
Our hoplite is defeated while trying to take out a barb camp! The Horsemen succeed however. It heads back to town.

430 AD
Horseman discovers more hordes west of Hherakalae Hoplite sent to help.

440 AD
Horseman defeated, taking 3 barbarians with him, Posthumously awarded Greek Star of valor for being promoted twice in the battle. Hoplite defeats one more.

People want to build Forbidden Palace. Note sure where is the best palce for it yet. Rhodes is built near scene of 3rd great barbarian battle.

450 AD
After adding 6 cities to the realm and defeating a massive Barbarian attack, Brian the Greek visits Atzcapotzalco and gives it a good Greek name: Brianopolos! However, sadly, he is shot from behind by an arrow. The assassin is never found, but the other Consuls have their suspicions. Eyes turn towards Aztecia. With the barbarian problem still rearing its ugly head, war with the Aztecs is not advisable, but soon, very soon. The funeral procession returns to Athens.

An Eulogy of Brian the Greek, known as Brian the Second, is read as follows: Brian created 5 cities, pushing back the uncivilized barbarians, and fought ceaselessly with them, destroying several of their camps. His 5 cities must be his legacy, they must be built up, brought into the empire by roads and defended against the everpresent barbarian threat. Brian's Galley was also responsible for meeting 2 new civilizations. We have no embassies in these lands yet, but the Germans and English are now known to be 2 of the most powerful (1st and 3rd, with Greece second) civilizations in the world. The treacherous Aztecs are the weakest, and someday will know the wrath of Greece!

Notes: Herakalae still has barbarian problems, although there is now a Swordsman there. Workers can build Spice roads. A Hopolite is facing an unknown number of Barbarians. He is on a hill to the north.
No settlers are being built right now. Feel free to change this as you see fit.

Here is a picture of the three barbarian hordes!
This must be on Raging Hordes or something! 3 at once!
Each stack holds at least 16 horsies..

Note: I built 2 more cities after this point, both near the jungle to
the northwest.

Just a couple of comments

1 - We still need settlers

2 - Forbidden palace = Herakleia

3 - We need more Hoplites - I fixed some, but we still have cities defending by Warriors :(

Lee,

I agree with all points, except, why Herakleia for the FP? Wouldnt it be better if it was more central, like another city close to that mountain in the west?

King Phantom steps on the thrown to rule mighty Greece.
His intentions: To get rid of those pitiful but annoying barbarians. He will achieve this by settling the island with cities to get the barbarians culturalized.

460 Hoplite defending against barbs in mountains becomes elite. Knossus and Pharsalos are ordered to get settlers ASAP. ( no shield loss )

470 Hoplite in mountains gets medal of honour. He defeats up to 6 horseman with no damage. Settlers created and moving to settling positions.

480 Feudalism has been researched by our scientists. Starting on Chivalry to get the powerfull knights.

490 Argos Cultural borders expands.

500 Athens finishes marketplace and starts on Sun Tzu's. Corinth produces setller and must immediately start another one.

510 Sparta creates settler. Barbarian settlement completely annihilated. City of Eretria was formed.

520 zzzzzzzz Just killing some barbs

530 Pharsalos and Thermopylae complets their settlers and Pharsalos starts on a marketplace while Thermopylae begins a horseman.

540 Troy was founded

550 Delphi creates horseman. The Azted dared to put a warrior and a settler into our territory and I immediately demanded them to leave. They left as fast as they could :)

560 Myycenae celebrates We Love The King Day !

570 Corinth produces settler and goes for horseman now. Established an embassy in England to see how long it will take them to finish Sun Tzu, we have a 40 turn advantage :)

580 Zulu wants to trade world map. Phantom wants to keep the lands for himself so he obviously refuses.

590 Argos finishes barracks and builds horseman now. Sparta finishes marketplace and goes for cathedral.

600 Malinalco is taken over by our culture :) Aztecs are gone from our side of the island :)

610 Chivalry was researched. All our horseman in production are automatically changed to Knights. Phantom loves gods so he decides to research Theology.

620 zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

630 We got Monarchy from the Great Library. Free stuff, jippie :)

640 Switched Sun Tzu's to Hanging Gardens since most Civs also did that. Hallicarnassus was founded.

650 Pergamon was founded.

This quite a nice turn. I was able to populate most of the island. This will make sure barbarians won't bug us anymore. There are still 2 settlers left and the one on the left should get the luxury and strategic resource. Hanging gardens are due in like 4 turns so I think we will get that one. Next king, try to get the entire island so there will be no barbarians left.
