EX I Succession Game - Alexander of the Greeks

To keep the game going, I am play without the new save.

However, for all future turns - I want a save sitting at the end of turn or the game will delay.

Pre-turn

I have to finish a half turn in 1080 AD. :(
I shoot the animated movement. I don't understand how anyone likes it.
I change Athens to Cathedral to get rid of unhappy people. One of the missing embassies is completed. I clean up are military disbanding all of the regular hoplites. I refuse to waste money on junk military.

1090 AD - I realize two goals for my reign. 1 - more workers. 2 - more quality military. Sistine chappel is completed. Start research on Economics, we need the help.

1190 AD - Bad news - the English are build the observatory - We don't even had Astronomy. Democracy research begins.

Summary
REVOLUTION as soon as Smith's is completed. Our economy is horrid, and our best chance is the trading company. We also need Democracy right after - for the extra economy and worker productivity boast.

I added to our knights, pikeman (the offerings are STUPID sometimes) and workers. We still have a pitiful army. DON'T build Hoplites. They will cost us more to upgrade into in the future

If you want to win a space race game - We need much better tiles.
Our work force is wasting to much time on corrupt cites. Much of my turn was spent moving the workers toward cities with production.

I like the Animated Movement, although I have a fast machine to run it on.. On a slow machine it would be a pain.

I've got the game..

PS Mardoc, I like your writeup!

I'm glad someone appreciates it. Actually, it'd be nice if you all tried a little - at least come up with a name for your king/president/whatever. Next time round will be a descendant. :)

Mardoc:
I usually try to a bit, see the Russian game.. but here I couldnt come up with anyting interesting my first few turns :)

1275:
A Descendant of Brianos the Greek returns to power offering true democracy and rule of law to all people! The people celebrate by expanding his palace!

1280:
A german galley approaches our shores near Herakleia. Eretria switches from Courthouse to Temple to get culture built up in case the Germans want to try to settle our empty lands.

1285:
We discover Democracy. Brianos holds off on switching to Democracy for now. Greek sooth-sayers study the stars to help determine where we are in the world. There is some hope that with this knowledge our merchant ships will be able to more easily reach foreign shores.

1290:
Worker movement.

1295:
Worker movement.

1300:
Zzzz

1305:
Exchange world maps with Aztecs, as available land is already settled. (Germans are on Island to the northwest already)
Astronomy is discovered! Invention is started. Despite having Astronomy, and hence trade across Sea squares, the other Civs cannot trade with us. Apparently they havent got around to building harbours yet.

1310:
Zzzz

1315:
Germany demands Engineering! We send Bismark's envoy packing. As he leaves, he says Bismark was 'just kidding'.

1320:
The English are building Leos workshop! We should be able to start it next turn, but need to max out Sparta to complete it on time. Why are we clearing trees around Athens when it is maxed out on food and the tiles underneith have no shields?

1325:
Smiths Trading House is completed, putting us into a Golden Age! We start studying Navigation to get Magellin's Expedition. Our Palace is expanded again. There is no way I'm starting a revolution in a golden age, esp if it means we will miss a wonder.. Democracy can wait.
Pharsalos starts on the Great Lighthouse. It could be switched to Magellin if necessary.

1330:
The Aztecs are building Leos Workshop!

1335:
Worker movement.

1340:
Zzzz.

1345:
We learn how to use the stars for navigation! Our scientists start investigating a strange white powder they suspect has explosive properties.

1350:
The English want to exchange world maps. We allow it. We are now stinking rich, with the golden age giving us twice our usual income. The extra production is helping with the wonders we are getting as well.

A university is rushed in Artimesium in the hopes that the English city of Norwich will be so impressed that they will want to join us!

1355:
Zzzz

1360:
Zzzz

1365:
Our wise-men discover Gunpowder! We immediately notice piles of the stuff near Mycenae and Brianopolos. The saltpeter near Brianopolos is already linked up.. Our wise-men investigate what the world is made of in its most basic components.

We will wait until Leonardos Workshop is complete before upgrading. It will be finished in 11 turns thanks to our Golden Age.

1370:
More worker movement. Brianos the Golden passes away peacefully at the height of the Greek Golden Age, leaving the Empire in a highly advanced state for both Economy and Technology..

I moved a Hoplite towards Thessalonia as this is a border city and easy pickings of a foreign power decides to drop a boatload of knights on our shores. Argos is now empty but producing a Musketman.

As I said before, there is no way I'm going to waste a golden age in revolution! It should start in about 10 turns (when the GA ends) or when the wonders in Sparta and Pharsalos are complete. This is roughly the same time. Once Leo's is complete we can start upgrading units.

Pharsalos can be switched to Magellan since this is more useful. In fact I just switched it before my turn ended.

The science rate is cranked up to take advantage of the Golden Age economy. One the GA ends, it may have to be dropped as we will start to lose money. Hopefully the GA will help push us into the lead in Tech. What a great time to get it!

Miletos dumped its Library production and switched to Worker.. It needs to be linked by roads and irrigated so it can grow.

This turn a strange king comes to power.... He has a split personality and so will be his decisions in this part of the game. King Phantom, he has a warlike personality and a constructive personality, strange huh?
In the year 1375 nothing much happened, the constructive personality gives orders to workers to connect some cities and to build some mines//irrigation.

Then in 1380 the warlike personality comes alive and soon 5 cities begin training of veteran knights to produce a large army. Luckely the other personality still had some power and ordered some workers in Thermopylae to be created.

1385 Chemistry was researched and next project was Physics, we needed extra science so Theorie of gravity was the next goal.

1390 Argos produced it defence, a musketman, production was immediately changed to knights to support the warlike personality of Phantom. However Brianopolos had completed it's aquaduct and instead of training knights it builded a cathedral.

1395 Marathon finishes harbor and Phantom stands amazed of the corruption over there.... Production was set for aquaduct but it would be finished in 100 turns...... Hopefully the Forbidden Palace would come online soon.

1400 Troy finishes barracks and begins on an aquaduct.

1405 Physics was researched, man this GA is getting us in a big lead :) Phantom immediately let the researchers start on Theorie of gravity.

1410 The warlike personality taken over the entire body of Phantom and he declares WAR on the Aztecs........

1415 The produced knights in the last decennia's had been sent to the border with the Aztecs and now the charge forwards into Aztec territory

1420 Leonardo's workshop was completed and Sparta was also ordered to begin training of knights. Troops kills a lot of units from the Aztec.

1425 We finish Magellan's Voyage and with that the GA ends..... Our GPT decreased from +30 to -21 so Phantom decreased science by 10% to get a surplus of 2 GPT. In the meanwhile our troops were able to capture Tiatelolco and Phantom decides to starve the population a bit to get it more under control.

1430 Theorie of Gravity was researched and Magnetism is next. Newton's University is built in Pharsalos.

1435 Rushed a barracks in Tiatelolco to get our wounded units back into the battle. Lot of action in battle field, but our troops easily overpowered them.

1440 Troops are forming up in front of Aztec capital. A stack of 10 knights are ready to charge next turn. Phantom seeing that this war can be easily win with the amount of troops available decides to let his other personality start production of banks in numerous cities.

1445 Capital captured with the loss of 3 knight, while they lose around 3 pikemen. Troops are very happy and their morale increases substantially.

1450-1465 Captured 2 more cities and having trouble with some riots in the country because of the war. Phantom decides to end the war very soon.

1470 War is ended and we made peace with the Aztec, unfortunately they didn't want to give a lot, but what the heck perhaps we can just finish them off later.

King Phantom dies. People say that they saw him shouting against himself with different voices and then they saw him kill himself...... Who killed who do you guys think :)?

Hmmm, I hope you guys didn't I mind I made war with the Aztec? I was pretty sure that our army would easily crush them. Too bad rioting made me decide to end the war. This war we captured 4 cities, killed like 20-25 of their inferior units, lost like 3 knights. In the meanwhile I think our army has increased with about 10-15 knights..

Tip: You could get democracy going now if you want Mardoc, but you can also choose to let the Aztec declare war on you and just annihalate them.

Well great minds think a like ;)

Part of the reason for the wall around Aztec was to keep settlers away - the other was hoping they would foolishly declare war. There was a reason I started upping the military. Of course, I had to defend our cities during my reign.

As for the Aztecs :die!: :die!:

It will be nice to be the sole owner of the continent.

I will play tomorrow afternoon or evening. I've not yet looked at the saved game, but I don't think I'd mind using an army. Of course, I generally have my cities spend their time building infrastructure, so if the army we have isn't strong enough I would stop short of total destruction. Did anyone build or start the Forbidden Palace? If not, I'll do that too. Any suggestions for locations?

I already started the forbidden palace. It should be well under way by know.

Yeah, forbidden palace is due in like 14 turns.... And Mardoc, our army consists of like 20 knights so it can easily kill the Aztec. Lkendter, i wonder if we shouldn't build FP somewhere else if we are to capture the Aztec cities?

I think where we are building the FP is good. It is in the upper middle part of our core lands, and will help all cities around it with corruption problems.

Moving it into Aztec lands would, IMO, be of little value. There are fewer cities to be built around the Fp on that narrow penninsula..

God luck Mardoc! How are the other civs taking the war? They aren't going to jump in are they?

Yesterday was my only window of opportunity - I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow early morning. I'll be back Sunday evening, but I need to pass this time and again if my turn comes up before I'm back. Good luck with the war, and I want you alive when I come back ;) .

THE WORKER'S PARADISE

With the untimely death of Phantom the mighty Greek Empire stands in disarray, leaderless and confused. The rational Greek citizens call upon a new man to lead them through this period of turmoil. This man - Exsanguination - is rumored to be a descendant of the Great ExSang of Old.

The year is 1470 AD, and Exsanguination decides to make radical changes to the Greek Empire, making it to strongest, smartest, and most productive empire the world had seen. His first act of business is the introduction of a new government called Democracy. He claims it will bring peace and prosperity to the empire. He assures the citizens that the pitiful Aztecs will not touch the Greek borders; his mighty army is strong enough to crush even the worthiest of opponents.

35 years later, the people come to terms with "Democracy" and adopt it as their new government, hailing Exsanguination as the first President of the now stable Greek nation. These 35 years (1470-1505) shall hereby be called the Revolution of Peace.

As president, Exsanguination calls on the scientists to gather and research a new goal - the science of Metallurgy. He claims this science can and will lead to new things, he describes such technologies as "Medicine" and "Steam Power". The scientists are intrigued and work hurriedly to unlock the secret of Metallurgy (4 turns).

Exsanguination soon realizes the need for increased production and growth, and gathers his army of workers. He puts them to work on mines, irrigation, and most importantly, roads that will produce commerce to run the Greek democracy. These workers work uninhibited, unharmed, and at rates no nation or empire had ever seen. Works are completed faster than ever before and cities begin to grow like weeds.

As time ticks by, Exsanguination learns that his scientists have recently mastered Metallurgy (the rumored year of the discovery is 1520 AD). He convinces the scientists to start researching Medicine, as he had promised. He talks of hospitals and doctors that will heal the injured and allow the great cities of Athens and Sparta to grow to new levels. The scientists estimate at least 45 years to complete such a noble project (9 turns).

At the same time, the people of Greece begin to feel a new sense of unity and patriotism. Philosophers call these new emotions "Nationalism". The change happens abruptly, but welcomed. Exsanguination hints at the idea of "mobilization".

The year is 1535, and the prosperous city of Sparta had announces that it shall embark on a new project - the Wall Street. Economists say it can help finance the nation's growing needs. Exsanguination marvels at the idea, and can hardly wait.

100 years have passed by, and Exsanguination can do nought but speak in a low murmur. His advisors help carry out his duties and demands. Knowing his time is near, he makes his last mark by renaming the captured city of Tenochtitlan to Exsanguinatione. Days later, he passes away, leaving the Greek nation in mourning.

Exsanguination's legacy shall be remembered for centuries to come; the new sciences, government, and improvements he ordered will stand as a testiment of his rule. The people erect a statue in the city of Exsanguinatione to remember him by, and promise to never let another leader ruin what he began.

Yea, sure I glorified myself but it was fun.

Summary:

-Medicine in 5 turns - lkendter, check that out. I didn't notice it until I wrote the summary, but we should have researched that one turn ago. Odd.
-FP in 10 turns
-Wall Street in 19
-Newton's in 17

Points total:

705 points, over 200 pts ahead of Germany, our closest rival.
15761 culture points, descent.

This is just getting fun now!!! Good luck, LKendter!!!

And, the game:

Save game please :crazyeyes :crazyeyes
