Exotic Unit Pack - Mod Collaboration Thread

The unit popped up in my test game. You have discovered Animal Husbandry and have a Pasture on the Horse resource?

May need to clear cache or check logs - with all the versions floating around, it's possible the database.db is "confused..."

OK, I've checked the latest version available and it's not the same as the one I uploaded.... Perhaps uploading more than one version a day causes a problem?

I'll try again, as the latest version isn't right either.

If for some reason this isn't working, the basic "fix" is to modify the 'Exotic Units Pack (v 1).modinfo' file in the mod's top level folder.

The line towards the bottom of the file is:

<UpdateDatabase>XML/Units/UnitOverrides.sql</UpdateDatabase>

It needs to be moved below the next 12 lines, after the 'CheyenneDSArtDefines.sql' update, and just above the '</OnModActivated>' line.

Hopefully, I can get an actual latest version loaded. Will keep trying the testing the download and let you know when it's "right."

OK - I deleted both mods uploaded today, and reuploaded my latest version. When I downloaded it again and checked the .modinfo file, it shows the correct version, with the overrides update at the end.

Soooooo.... please download again and give it the ol' college try....

Sorry about all the confusion. I guess when I upload multiple versions of a mod in a single day, I'll have to check them more closely.

So, I just ran a pretty successful game with the mod, along with a few others.

Everything seems to run amazingly well. The AI uses most of the units provided. Still having trouble seeing the elephant units. Saw a few, but not a lot. Although, I think that has more to do with the resource being unavailable rather than the AI thinking it's useless.

So yeah. Everything is working fine. And, like I said before, the mercs' pricing, etc. was fine considering the stats.

Appreciate the update. I think I'll keep the baseline "stable" for about another week or so, to see if we get any more feedback from any of the other 16 people who downloaded the mod.

At that point, I'll make any needed changes, then freeze the baseline to publish on Steam.

I'm really happy about how this mod came together - and appreciate all the solid ideas and feedback on getting it here.

@DTG - if you haven't found any other issues, I'd like to close out V1 and publish, both here and on Steam.

One thing I'd like to put on the Steam page is a few screenshots of the units in action. If you don't mind, and maybe have a few saved games on hand, could you get maybe 5-10 pictures of different units in combat situation - attacking other units/cities?

Just have to hit the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard during the attack. It's a little tricky to get the picture right at the precise moment during the combat animation.

The files are in the folder: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ScreenShots

Just need to open a Windows Explorer to that location then "Copy" a picture and paste it into this blue text area inside a new post. I think there's a 10 picture limit per post, though.

I'd appreciate it!

Hey, I haven't found any issues, so I think you're good to upload it.

And, yeah, I have a few saved games, currently in the classical era, just unlocked the Camel Bowman in one of them. Planning to go to war with someone soon, so I'll take a few pictures.

Kinda sucks that there's no ivory nearby, though. So, for the elephants, I think you're gonna have to do those, unless I can find some ivory in a different saved game. :)

yeah, I'd appreciate anything you can manage - to make the Steam page more interesting. Frees up some time for me to finish some other things.

I can start on the screenshots today. Sorry, have been a little busy with another project for someone, and they asked me to do it before you asked me about the screenshots, so I gave them priority.

Will get to it today, though.

Yeah, I think I've had to convert the files to .jpg then copy them directly from a Windows Explorer thumbnail directly into the text box/post reply.

I'm not sure what apps native to Windows will do the conversion. I use either Paint.net or Gimp. Both are free, but paint is easier to work with for the conversions. There are probably lots of other apps in the app store that will handle simple conversions as well.

If you're not that adventurous, the easiest thing to do is - in game - press the Shift-Print Screen, then alt-tab out of the app and paste the clipboard into MS Paint, then save as a jpg. But if you've already got lots of screen shots, they'll have to be converted to post here.

Have you tried to zip a few tga pix together then upload the zip? Not sure if that would work or not.
