Exploration thread

I created this depiction of Chamsuri’s final moments in this world for eventual display in our Chamsuri Museum.

Farewell Chamsuri! We barely knew you!

A sad moment indeed. Let us all learn by the courage of her sailors, and bravely face the world! :salute:

:wow:

fine.

That is indeed a fine specimen for the Chamsuri Museum. Very nice, General.

My hunch says there are sea lanes form our land extending to the NW and SE. zyxy is skeptical that these sea lanes exist but has said he'll do some exploring in the NW. I look forward to the results of that exploration and hope the First Chairman will post some maps here.

If those sea lanes do exist then all five teams are equidistant from each other, meaning BABE can sail in any direction and met another civ.

If those sea lanes do not exist then we all have two neighbors that are closer to us than the remaining two teams. Our two neighbors would be FREE and SABER. :) Would this set up account for the two missing luxuries? :hmm:

I'm sticking with my hunch. Maybe they aren't sea lanes like the ones we found earlier. Maybe there is a small island hidden there. An island with a luxury on it. We've already figured everyone has gems and a monopoly lux on their mainland. That's 6 luxes. We're guessing the minor island has a lux in the hidden center. What of they all have the same lux? (That makes sense since we can all settle one minor island without the torch.) That would take us to 7 luxes worldwide. If there's a small island on the NW - SE axis (well, there would be five of them) and they could hold the the remaining luxury. Maybe it's a one tile island with just coast and that's why we haven't spotted shallows. Would such an island fit? I'm too tired to check but sounds like a promising project for tomorrow or this weekend.

I think we should just guess what's the most interesting for a map maker to create: When there are sealanes to everyone or to just two other teams.

I am tending towards the latter, but I really don't know. Nobody does. We'll just have to wait and see. For a non-lighthouse civ we are really far in exploring the world though.

I'd rather just go with the worst case and be happy if I'm wrong.

If I had made the map, I would have placed all civs equidistant (if possible) so all diplomatic options are open for everyone. It would be the one most balanced game where no team could complain that it was placed "right in the middle of BABE and GONG"... :old:

I guess I'll go with that then. It sounds pretty logical for a map maker. Then again, in the real world a country doesn't border all other countries either. It would therefore be more realistic when an island borders only two other islands...

Here's a pic of the unexplored waters (little yellow circles) to our SE (and / or NW):

Here's a possibility for what lies there (note that we would not see any of this by merely poking about - yet if this exists, BABE can use it to reach us):

You are right Donsig, there could be an island or sea lane hidden there, once out of anarchy it may be a good idea to build a galley and send it on a suicide run into the middle of that ocean so that we can end the uncertainty here.

:agree: Now that the risk of a BABE invasion is dramatically less, we should be able to afford this of kind attempt, no problem.
