Exploration thread

If I count correctly, then going back is 7 turns to the crossing. Heading on is 19 turns.

Does anyone now think that Chamsuri should head back north and attempt this crossing to the north west of the FREE lands? This would take him to the same landmass as the alpha crossing.

Here's Aigburth's latest map with a tiny blue dot showing Chamsuri's position. I agree Chamsuri should head back but I think there should be a crossing somewhere inside the yellow circle I've drawn. If Chamsuri can find shallow waters I think we should explore there. If none are found then Chamsuri can continue north to the other crossing suggested by Aigburth.

The area marked by Donsig looks like a likely place for some shallow waters, agree if Chamsuri heads back north he should have a look at that spot to see if any shallows can be seen.

Now that we've met Saber, are we sure we still want Chamsuri to continue on his present course? That will take him to Saber's continent – which the only value is just mapping their land.
Vs – if we turn around (again  ) and go with my initial proposal, we'll have a shot at meeting Gong or Babe.

I'm not in a big hurry to meet either of those hooligans… but we should probably talk about it.

Note: We now know that the Beta Route leads to Team Saber.

The plan is to go north and attempt the equivalent of the beta crossing but in reverse to the NE of free’s continent, this would take us to the same landmass as alpha route on your map. We decided this was the best course as the beta crossing (and its equivalents) only require two turns in dangerous waters.

Reposted with location of SABER and proposed route of Chamsuri in cyan. Quite tricky to find your way on this map :), but if we sail NE from FREE we should reach a new island (EDIT: as Aigburth said). To get to SABER, the shortest route would be to head NW from the NW tip of FREE land.

Here's a screenie from turn 76. The arrows show the jump off points I think we should use in our search for Alphaland:

But you're jumping straight into the ocean! Why not use the crossing we know is the least risky one?

If our theory is correct then all crossings have the same risk. Did we poke around to the southeast? I expected shallows in that area.

My predictions for player locations are:
alpha:GONG
Chamsuri:BABE

Looked for a pattern but couldn't find one. You figure we all have two paths to two civs and water crossing for the other two.

We are team 2 and have paths to 3 and 4.
Free is team 4 and have paths to 2 and ? (think 5).
Saber is team 3 and have paths to 2 and ? (think 1).

Maybe its not by team number but by some other metric

Of course it could just be a rng :crazyeye:

Well, this is a tricky map. I think I see what we're going to try now. Chamsuri will attemp a reverse beta-type maneuver in hope of reaching Alphaland.

Then, the closest path to the remaining landmass should be off our northwest coast - in waters we haven't plumbed yet.

 reverse beta-type maneuver

Is that sailor language? Are our brave sailors proficient in that technique :shifty:

These Chamsuri guys are really skilled daredevils :wow:

:D

we are still in the ancient age. We know nothing, but our brave sailors are willing to try anything, for they know that they will be honored for ever in the annals of The Council! besides, they've already lived what... 2000 years?

Chamsuri is already our most famous and revered unit. Imagine the heights its glory will ascend to if it sccessfully pulls off the reverse beta maneuver and discovers a second civilization. That would truly be something worthy of a Heroic Epic. May the Gods continue to smile upon the brave (and long-lived) Chamsuri!

After taking a brief look at save before our turn 83, I have to report that our brave curragh Chamsuri finally got lost in the Waves.

We all shall take a quiet time to honor the brave sailors who risked and lost their lives for the fate of The Council. :salute: :salute: :salute:

It's sad indeed. But they served the Council well, and will be remembered for their bravery.

It is a sad day indeed! :( We must honor Chamsuri soon by naming a city for that brave ship and crew. Perhaps a city on one of the islands?
